We should have a messageboard competition to come up with the best song about Eric Coyle

There must be some irony in the constant discussion on here about the perception that BFC and it's fans are obsessed with attendances.

No mate, the irony is having any complaints when you are posting on a BRFC Supporters site!

You've probably got a good point there (I'd take them as soon as you can if I were you) but when the burnley manager is saying things like "you could make the case this is the best supported club in the world" then honestly what do you expect?

It's another absolute hum dinger of a quote from a burnley manager. Having said that is it really genuine? (is there a link?) It's up there with the Ferrari / Mini thing (Stanley Ternant), the "team of the 70's" promise (Jimmy Adamson) and "I think things are going rather well" (John Bond).

The statement would have made a little more sense if he had just changed one word....

(*like it SG194)

Please leave it alone. Eric Sykes is one of my favourite ever comedians (remember Sykes and a plank?). No way do I want him associated with Burnley.

The whole of Buhnlah would just about fit into Old Trafford, Owen, but as a catchment area you also have Brierfield, Nelson, Blacko, Barrowford, Colne, Trawden, Pendle, Skipton, Oswaldtwistle, Great Harwood, Rishton, Clayton Le Moors, Accrington, Haslingden, Rawtenstall, Bacup, Todmorden, Keighley, Haworth, Crosshills, Whalley, Clitheroe and a whole host of other places in West Yorkshire I can't be arsed to look up. That enough for you?

But that applies to Rovers as well.

Not really. There are vast tracts of North Lancs, North Yorks and West Yorks to whom Burnley is the neasest Club. Most of Hyndburn is halfway between Ewood and t'turd. Blackburn is surrounded on all sides by areas that have long established clubs with entrenched support. Rovers have Blackburn's population of around 120,000 to go at and thats basically it. When you factor in Blackburn's Asian population of around 30,000 it reduces our catchment area still further given many Asian folk have not yet really bought into attending games for a variety of reasons.

Well considering the small distance between Blackburn and Burnley the above mentioned towns are just as likley to produce Rovers fans as Burnley fans, even more so if you consider Blackburn's more recent successes. It's hardly a major detour to travel the few extra miles to Ewood in my opinion.

I did allude to that in mentioning Hyndburn. The rest still stands imo.

Not at all. There will be Rovers fans in the Burnley catchment area (as evidenced by some on here) but not that many. Folk wanting to watch a game of football in Barnoldswick, Earby, Skipton, Keighley, Crosshills, Todmorden, Bacup, Colne, etc etc will definitely choose Buhnlah over Rovers. Those that don't choose Buhnlah and don't choose to actually watch football will be the plastics who walk round in the red of Man Utd and Liverpool.

You want to team up with Owen Coyle and the greatest spin doctor of them all, Alaister Campbell, you'd make a great triple act.

You know this endless squabble over who has the best support/population ratio..

does it really count for anything?

It's like two bald men fighting over a comb. No one, except us, gives a toss.

I hope some isolated village in Cornwall gets in the Prem and pulls in 40,000 every week just to stop this wearisome crap.

Quite agree but it's just been fuelled by the utter bull sh!t that came out of the mouth of your manager.

Football manager talking @#/?? Hold the back page!

OC's always been the type of manager who butters up all the right people. He always says the right things to the media and he is always very complimentary about the Burnley fans, even if it means telling the odd porky. We had a good laugh at his massive underestimation of Burnley's population during the play-off period. He said it was something like 70,000 or something.

He'll do exactly the same in his next job. It's part of why the fans and the media have taken so well to him.

No Moorey,NO NO NO!

When you've got THE king of all shysters Campbell with his tongue in Coyles ear and his hand up his rear you just know where the 'spin' really is coming from.

You'll not be watching the documentary Mr Campbell has done on us then? ;)

Burnley = 90,000 ish

Blackburn (borough) = 140,000 ish

I don't buy this poppycock about catchment areas either, people from these areas are just as likely to support Blackburn, Burnley, Bolton, Preston, Liverpool and Manchester etc etc.

Someone said earlier take 20% off Blackburn's total because the Asian lads tend not to go, which is just laughable (not the fact they don't tend to go, but that they should be discounted because of it)

So all in all, considering the facts, Burnley are by far the best supported team by percentage of population.

Not even mentioning our 5000 strong weekly army of away fans, (many of whom live far away from the town itself) while Rovers struggle for a few hundred.

Is that the one set in the Nou Camp but Campbell has stuck a sign outside saying "Turf Moor"?

camp_nou_5.jpg

T'Turf for the QPR replay.

Oh and here's Ranulf with his regular dose of utter codswallop. Dear God. 5,000 to every away match? You couldn't even muster 4k at home in January?!?

Catch you later.
