"....and has delivered a wedgie of eye watering proportions to your self perpetuated myth of being the footballing mecca of Lancashire, nay the known galaxy".

"In summary...Blackburn Rovers...better supported club than Burnley using any means of testing you wish...categorically proved here on 02/10/09".

For your sake I hope you come across better in person that you do on this forum.

As if to prove that the obsession about the "myth" isn't purely the domain of Burnley fans, we're now revisiting the same discussion on this thread that was had 30+ pages ago.

I genuinely don't care what percentage of our population, whatever that may be, attends matches. The only time I can remember reading about those old statistics or talking about it in the last 10 years is on here. My interest in attendances comes purely from the angle of financial benefit to the club and atmosphere inside the stadium. I'm not in the minority of Burnley fans in that regard either. Certainly not the ones I speak to anyway. I've long accepted that we're a small club, with small attendances.

I enjoyed it. Quite a few fans sat around me also found it amusing.

I'm certainly not dreading the season tho.

All joking aside I wouldn't knock it too much. Spending a fortune and still going back down would ruin all the good work of last season. In my opinion the sensible thing for Burnley to do would be to preserve their money in the hope of just staying up but if they did go back down they would be in a much better position to have another tilt at the Premiership the following season.

I believe that to be the prudent way to handle the situation.

Something I think most of the bunleh fans are in tune with and understand , yet going of the responses on here alot of Rovers fans can't for some bizarre reason.

Ahh the last refuge of the damned, bringing into question the calibre of someone's personality, soul and moral fiber, based upon comments they make on a website that do not agree with your own...your lot started it, I finished it, and with your last post I wholeheartedly accept your submission! I am not sure that the opinions of my "better personage" from another person on an internet forum, and a Burnley fan at that, will keep me awake at night, but I bet you did gone felt all real big when you did wrote it, so I am glad I gave you some light in your life.

As for the obsession with the myth, only the Dingles have an obsession with the myth. Rovers fans just have a weariness of the lie, and when Coyley Big Potatoes stood up to the plate to entwine himself in said mendacity, I had to set the matter straight once and for all. My previous lack of posts on this topic reflect my own position in terms of obsession I think, whereas a Burnley fan hanging around on a Rovers site might just raise the odd Freudian eyebrow.

But just to summarise for me, are you basically saying that your glorious leader was talking crap about the "best support" thing then?

Go on, say it...the truth shall set you free!

Take your head out your arse, eh? Greater support comes from average attendances. Just look up last seasons average (us and burnley) and ur argument is done and dusted. But don't come across as a total prat. Even if it is to a bloke with 6 fingers and whose siblings are sharing the family brain cells at the moment! ;)

First of all, I do agree with your comments, I'm just not keen on the way you make them.

If you really want to believe that every Burnley fan holds up as truth some old, tatty stats about us being one of the best supported club per head of pop in the land, then feel free. Trying to disprove the stats on the basis that we ALL believe them, appears to give you a purpose.

As for admitting that OC was talking crap, I'm afraid that you can't claim the exclusive for eliciting those comments from me. Scroll back to page 68, I'll you'll see I made this admission yesterday.

Sadly you have missed the point. The argument isn't about "last seasons average attendance", and therefore isn't done and dusted. The "fact" constantly thrown at us is that per head of poulation they are better supported. I have given a pretty good reason as to why I think that is wrong, and am currently enjoying a bit of banter on the back of the opposition to this argument either being unable to prove me wrong, claiming they never said they were right in the first place, or just demonstrating sour grapes.

I am sorry if my writing style makes you uncomfortable...perhaps I should drop the polysyllabic words and use the likes of "ur" instead of "you are"?

Try not to come across as a total prat, eh m8? ;)

Well said. I was beginning to think that I was the only one who thought he'd stumbled across an Oscar Wilde-themed one-upmanship contest!

I grew up texting, gimme a beak, eh? ;) If I missed the point I apologise. The point you make is absolutely spot-on, I'm not doubting that. I'm just the kind of person who doesn't say 20 words when 3 will do, thats all. It just makes you look a bit stuck-up is all I'm saying, I didn't mean any personal disrespect.

Finally some kind of rebuttal, but disappointingly it does not come in the form of some brilliantly argued, fact supported riposte, but results in a "err...well we have been living these lies for years and you have proved us wrong so you are geeks,so we still retain the high ground. because geeks is what you is..."

It may surprise our Dingle friends, but with a couple of your missing chromosones present, just four fingers and a thumb on each hand for typing, and a secondary school level of education, the research and writing of my post took less than ten minutes, and has delivered a wedgie of eye watering proportions to your self perpetuated myth of being the footballing mecca of Lancashire, nay the known galaxy.

A good 12 hours since my original post and not one serious counter argument...it has all gone quiet on the Yorkshire front, hasn't it?

In summary...Blackburn Rovers...better supported club than Burnley using any means of testing you wish...categorically proved here on 02/10/09.

Oh dear! Have I been asleep for 2 months and missed 6 weeks of the season?

Fair play Mellison. Sadly, I am pretty much defined as a person who will say 20 words when 3 will do...I can't bloody help it! To be honest the verbal stuff is done mostly out of affectation, and is meant to come across as a bit haughty. I amuse myself when I write it, and as someone who does a bit of sports writing on a amateur level for a couple of papers, I like it to come across as entertaining.

To quote Oscar Wilde, who our friend Moorey brought up before, " A little sincerity is a dangerous thing, a great deal of it is absolutely fatal".

If it isn't entertaining and just comes across as annoying then that is disappointing, but as I said it amuses me, so I shall continue "in said vein"...

Just one final Oscar Wilde quote whilst we are on the subject, "Always forgive your enemies, nothing annoys them so much".

Moorey, my apologies if you had already conceded that Coyle was talking out of his arse.

To all the now vanquished and defeated Burnley lads on here......

If you choose to swim in the crocodiles lake, dont pick a fight with them or you will be eaten for supper just like our Ranoff.

;)

Crocodiles? That's a bit of a stretch for some of the sloth like wits on here.

As for DarthPaul, I think he bored his prey into submission.

These last couple of weeks of pre-season are dragging.

You can always reflect on the home defeat by lesser league placed Leeds to help cheer you up Sammy lad :P

3000 Leeds fans on Saturday:

"You're gonna get hammered off Blackburn, hammered off Blackburn….."

"You're gonna get hammered off Wigan, hammered of Wigan….."

You're gonna get hammered off Wolves, hammered of Wolves…."

To the 4000 burnley fans

You might wish to pass that on to Messrs Kilby and Flood. I have a feeling that they will be grabbing what they can whilst the going is good. The fans of Burnley FC might find out in due course that the club might just not have as much filthy premier league lucre as they think once those two have milked their once in a lifetime opportunity..

Oh the rotters. You mean Kilby has saved us from relegation to League Two and bankruptcy, funded our rise to the Premier League all as part of some evil masterplan. This is awful news.

What next, a Champions League spot just so those two scoundrels can milk the extra revenue. We must stop this now.

Thanks for the tip-off gord.

What odds can you get on Burnley to stay up????

your looking at about 5/4 for dingles to stay up

8/13 for them to go down

Oh dear Sam, you had a chance to win back some credibility as a human being, by acknowledging defeat on this one, but instead you choose to ignore that argument, which to date has still left all the Clarets on this site running for hiding spaces in the rocks.

Instead you opt to ignore the facts and just decry the evidence as boring, suggest "sloth-like wit" and try to ridicule the person who put it forward. Perhaps that is all you have got?

A similar thing happened to Charles Darwin when he claimed that man descended from the apes, although I suspect he got a bit more understanding in your part of the world than he did in the scientific circles of London.
