longsiders1882 Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Hola Guys. Just a quick post. I think the most important post on here was the 'one swallow', it was an awesome night, a good game of football and a result very few would honestly have predicted. That said it is only 3 points now and we need a lot more of those and in truth we probably need to get them from the 7/8 teams that will realistically be at the bottom end with us. In terms of the scalp, as massive as it is there is no doubt which scalp we really want.

waggy Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 was 80p a pint in the workies on tuesday,we were talking about the odds for the game i said 8/1 was poor and offered 100/1,one poor man this morning
Nelsta Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 I think Burnley are getting just a tad carried away, More or less every season a newly promoted team puts on a peformence against United, and sometimes get 3 points. So well done you beat Man united, Lets see the final standings before you declare how great a team you are.
Jonnolad Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 It becomes obvious from talking to a couple of them at work today that even though they've took the scalp of arguably the biggest team in Europe, it's not the scalp they really want. Do you blame them? If I had some goon constantly harp on about "we'll always be better than you", "30 years and counting" or some such like, then I'd definitely want to win a game just to shut them up. It's tedious for me and I'm a Rovers fan. I'm not saying you are one of those types btw Hasta, but these people definitely exist and in surprisingly serious numbers.
booth Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 First sensible post on here. Except all mine, obviously. Look up to us That's as sensible as it gets, posting a league table just two games in. What a tool Enjoy the luck while it lasts. United were the worst I've seen them in my entire life last night, Burnley weren't great to be honest but they dug in and ground out a result. All credit to the work-rate and the keeper. But put it in perspective, you were very lucky. United worst for over a decade - they miss a penalty - Blake scores the goal of his career. Subtract those and what have you got? I certainly didn't see any of this 'good football' that's being talked about. Also what's all the whining from Rovers fans complaining about giving the dingles some stick? It's called banter. I never thought I'd see the day when as a Rovers fan I'd hear a fellow supporter moaning because I'd offended a Burnley fan. What weird times we live in...
Hughesy Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Also what's all the whining from Rovers fans complaining about giving the dingles some stick? It's called banter. Sssshhhh dont tell them that Afterall we are going to lose to Burnley both times, and they will finish above us!!! YEAH OK!
Exiledfan Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 "My point was that with Burnley being such a MASSIVE club, with such a MASSIVE support, why have they got such a sh!tty little stadium that only just holds 20k! " I'm sure you know a lot of Burnley fans who makes such claims. I'm glad to say I don't know any.
CAPT KAYOS Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 but these people definitely exist and in surprisingly serious numbers. Indeed Jonno - as by the looks of it are getting nervous - hence the banal reptitives rather than genuine banter. yet to see the Bunleh fans spouting the way some Rovers are going on - just giving as good as what is being thrown at them. As I have said before , they appear to me to know what they have and are confident without being over eager and are being underrated by many. We may not like them but I would do the same - seem to remember similar reactions when we tubbed them for the first time. UTD underrated them and so will many more - the one team that won't is us - still confident theny will not beat us this season but but no wonder they are revlling as they hav been written off from all accounts

In terms of the scalp, as massive as it is there is no doubt which scalp we really want. A brilliant result though it was - it could actually rebound on Burnley. It sounds as though (taking nothing away from Burnley) United under-estimated them. Following this result - other teams may not be as generous. I am curious - Burnley got through the play-offs scoring some spectacular goals - surely they can't continue doing this, can they ?
47er Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Manure were really really terrible last night. Every year we think this is the one where they decline and every year they come back strongly. However its going to be more difficult this year. They had no spark whatsoever for the first hour. They started as if they were 3-0 up in the Champions League final---playing the ball back and sideways and taking forever to get into the danger zone. When they got there-----------nothing. Owen has had it, no-one can work out Rooney's best position or play alongside him. There's no-one new coming through, in fact their best player is Giggs, Having said all that, you only play as well as the opposition lets you so well done Burnley! Please get carried away!
SamDingle Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 More or less every season a newly promoted team puts on a peformence against United, and sometimes get 3 points Not since Norwich in 2005 has any promoted team beaten them, at any stage of the season. But carry on... The thing about last night is, it was inevitable. This has been coming. Just as us displacing you from East Lancashire's perch is inevitable.

The thing about last night is, it was inevitable. This has been coming. Just as us displacing you from East Lancashire's perch is inevitable. Wolves 1 Manchester United 0January 17, 2004 A Wolves side containing former United players Denis Irwin and Paul Ince upset a United team which included Roy Keane and Cristiano Ronaldo. Kenny Miller scored the only goal for one of the highlights of a season which saw Wolves relegated back to the Championship Some food for thought
The Prof. Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 When did Carrick play for Newcastle? The doorman in work this morning: 'Burnley... Is that near Blackburn?' Another Wallsend kid - never played for them- sorry!
Hasta Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Do you blame them? If I had some goon constantly harp on about "we'll always be better than you", "30 years and counting" or some such like, then I'd definitely want to win a game just to shut them up. It's tedious for me and I'm a Rovers fan. I'm not saying you are one of those types btw Hasta, but these people definitely exist and in surprisingly serious numbers. I'm not in the "We'll always be better than you" category because I have stated many times (and been criticised for it) that we are still punching above our weight and relegation will probably happen at some point and getting back up will be a big chore. Things can easily change on the pitch in football. Who would have thought a few years ago that Colchester would be crowing over thier local rivals Norwich following a 7-1 league win. However I do throw the "30 years and counting" at Burnley fans I know because it's a fact. That's just banter and rivalry. If Burnley had beat us back in 2001 you would never have heard the end of it even now. Burnley fans still talk of 'relegation parties' in 1999 when we went down. All I was pointing out was that for practically all newly promoted clubs, beating Man U would be the pinnacle of theer season. The rivalry between two clubs here runs deeper than that. Nothing wrong with it. It's just something that I doubt most people not connected with both clubs would believe.
S15 Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Shades of Birmingham /Villa, United/ City, Everton/ Liverpool, Arsenal/ Spurs.... In the past fews yeasrs, the smaller club in these rivalries have had their moments in the sun, but the bigger/ better force always end up on top. Enjoy your moment Sam, you've earnt it and you fully deserve it. Just don't say anything which will come back and feel make you feel twice as bad as the ecstacy you feel right now.
Gav Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Not since Norwich in 2005 has any promoted team beaten them, at any stage of the season. But carry on... ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz polishing that trumpet again Sam, stats stats stats
SamDingle Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz polishing that trumpet again Sam, stats stats stats Ha ha.. that line got to you yesterday didn't it Gav. Don't worry. I'll go easy on you now you're back in your rightful place.
Gav Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Ha ha.. that line got to you yesterday didn't it Gav. Thats right Stats man
booth Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Burnley didn't play particularly well, Utd were an abomination and despite that they missed a penalty and only good goalkeeping kept them from taking a share of the points. Besides that, a brilliant goal and they worked hard. You won't get that luck every week. Was a world apart from this 'good football' that I keep hearing about. Am I being harsh or just being realistic? Just throwing that one out there.
nicko Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Same luck that saw them past Chelsea, Arsenal, West Brom, at home to Spurs and in the promotion race and play-offs. It's a worry. Coyley just can't seem to get unlucky.
Jeru tha Damaja Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Same luck that saw them past Chelsea, Arsenal, West Brom, at home to Spurs and in the promotion race and play-offs. It's a worry. Coyley just can't seem to get unlucky. He must feel just like Phil Brown did this time last year. How did he fare last night? Lost 5-1? I guess things can change pretty quickly in football.
Gav Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Same luck that saw them past Chelsea, Arsenal, West Brom, at home to Spurs and in the promotion race and play-offs. It's a worry. Coyley just can't seem to get unlucky. Luck always runs out in the end, the above sides played weakened teams also. Lets see how they get on against them this season, that’s the acid test.

Hasta Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Was that the year Rovers beat Norwich 7 - 1?? Err. No. It was the year Bothroyd got sent off at Carrow Road for kicking someone really hard on the shin like a bully in a playground and then Dickov nodded in a late equaliser.

Well done, it's the talk of Manchester from what I hear, and most probably London too knowing Man U's fans . However, it's impossible for you to knock us off that particular perch, but you are already the best team in Yorkshire I'll give you that
