Burnley didn't play particularly well, Utd were an abomination and despite that they missed a penalty and only good goalkeeping kept them from taking a share of the points. Besides that, a brilliant goal and they worked hard. You won't get that luck every week.

Was a world apart from this 'good football' that I keep hearing about.

Am I being harsh or just being realistic?

Just throwing that one out there.

I said this before start of season that burnley will struggle cos all they did last year was 20-30 yard goals, but it seems i was wrong.

Last night was just man united passing the ball around trying to get forward but dropping back then going forward then dropping back, I never saw burnley get into man utd`s box properly at all.

Phil Brown messed everything up at City last year by doing that crazy half time team talk in front of the fans. That's when it all went pear-shaped. Do you think Coyle would be naive enough to pull a daft stunt like that?

It'll still be a tough year for Bumleh but this must be a total confidence booster. Let's hope they get so high that they fall right down on their arses!

Hull had only won one out of the previous 9 games when Brown lost the plot, I'd say things had already started to go wrong, especially since the previous week they'd lost 4-1 at home to a struggling Sunderland side. People are too keen to blame Hull's decline on that one event.

Well done Dingles, it happens, Look at Hull last year. Teams are on a high, fired up and perform for a few games. All season long that is another matter, but the dingles under Nicko's mate seem to be able to get up for the big games, for this we should be worried, very worried. I don't think they will go down unless Nicko's mate leaves, he is a good manager as was advertised by Nicko at the time he joined th esix fingered friends

"Burnley didn't play particularly well..."

Wow, we are going up in the world. A Rovers fan admits that we didn't play that well, but still beat the reigning Champions of England and Champions League runners-up! Compliment indeed. ;)

I don't understand that, it's just as it was, no compliment intended. They didn't play the glorious football that Burnley fans have been saying they play week in week out. If you go on the football mad site and take a look you will find lots of posts stating how they are going to play Owen Coyle's beautiful game and how they'd rather do that and get relegated than grind out results and stay up. Absolute tosh going off last nights play in which they ground out a very good result. End of. It's not the second coming that journalists and some reactions from Rovers fans on here are making out.

Also beating the reigning champions of England and Champions League you may well have done - but that ain't the same team that reached those heights. Going off last nights performance United will struggle this season. That said, I can't see Ferguson not bringing in some new faces after that embarrassment.

Same luck that saw them past Chelsea, Arsenal, West Brom, at home to Spurs and in the promotion race and play-offs.

It's a worry.

Coyley just can't seem to get unlucky.

;)

As a journalist you should have seen this a million times before Nicko. Burnley have hard graft and a bit of luck going for them and fair do's to them, they are working very hard at the moment. I have a very good Burnley supporting friend who reckons the bubble will burst sooner rather than later. Of course he's glad for it to last as long as possible but reckons relegation is inevitable - they simply don't have the squad.

On the other hand I've had one Burnley fan state to me today that on last nights performance they could challenge for the title, and he was being completely serious. All that conversation was missing was a laughter track.

Give them some credit, OK from the championship winning side there was no Tevez No Ronaldo, No Ferdinand, Van Der Sar or Vidic but they still did well, worked hard but the testing time will be when spectacular goals dont fly in, passes go astray and how they react to that, however last night, lets give some credit as it was a good result!!

I left a comment on a youtube video showing the last four minutes of the game on a camera phone. The Dingle who uploaded the video, missing my obvious sarcasm, replied thus: 'its class united havent lost to any teams thats come up from the championship or drawn and they come Burnley and loose get in! '

Don't let facts get in the way eh?

Recall we beat the current champions 1 nil on our return to the premier league in 1992 in the first home game

Like the last line in the Daily Mail report

This night will only be surpassed if they beat Blackburn here in March

Dream on...

Must say well done to Burnley after last night - always good to see our true current rivals done down (where's Vinjay when you need him?). Ok perhaps that line of banter is wearing a little thin but it has been great while it lasted!

Always thought they'd come into their own in the Premiership - then again, that's been going on in them there Pennine hills throughout their meagre history.

Looking forward to renewing auld acquaintances in October. As for Rudolph and his 'natural order', where were Burnley in relation to Rovers when Jason and Marcus scored against them in 2000? Proper rivalry and derby game tension - absolutely fantastic! Let's have it again. Come on!

Cannot understand the weedy fear of some of the self-proclaimed and so-called Rovers fans on this forum. No complacency but experience only joy at being loyal to the true blue and white Lancashire heroes, west of Accrington. Remember, even if they were to beat Rovers, even do the double over us this season, they will still only be Burnley!

Bring on the B@$£@rds !!

(Is it true there is a fairly good band from Nelson/Burnley called 'A New Breed of Monkey'?)

Oh my. Don't say I didn't warn you.

This thread is everything I'd expect it to be, awash with bitterness and denial. Excellent stuff, particularly loving Hughsey's desperate contribution!

Anyhow, enjoy life in our shadow, chumps.

You lot have been in our shadow, for fecking years. Get a grip son,its only the 2nd game of the season. You guys enjoy these 2 games eh.To Burnley fans it feels like they have won the league after 2 games. After 2 comes 3, but hey its not my fault you guys cant count to 38. :D

oh dear, what happened to us losing every game? :P

Clarets ahead of Rovers, normal service is resumed.

Normal service? Not what the history books say. Staying where you are for another 50 or 60 years might do it, but even then I am not so sure...

Ranulf fantasising...normal service is resumed....

(You will always be second best boys ;) )
