Thats a polititians reply, I have watched Burnley when looking after my team has permitted, how anyone can even consider Graham Alexander in the same league as Tugay totally defeats me, Zurab is far better than the two centre backs you have and whilst not quick, is probably quicker than the central pairing at Burnley and he is an International Footballer.

As I said previously the players I mentioned I would concede, their first touch and passing ability is nowhere near prem quality, but it is a different level with the two biggest factors, week in week out being this, in Premiership the strikers are better and the defences are meaner.

Time will prove me correct!! <_<

For amusement; No word of a lie this really happened.

At half time in Wembley messages of support were played from the fans (filmed on Wembley way) on the big screen.

A young lad (Burnley fan), was sitting there with a young lady on his knee, her arm around his neck - clearly a young couple very much in love and enjoying the day. He passed on a rambled, barely coherent message of support for his team and then after looking into his eyes she spoke these immortal words.

"Yeah all the best from me and mi brother!"

It's amazing how much fans buy into the Premier League hype.

The Championship is full of ex-Premier superstars who look average at that level. Now League One is full of clubs who were going to bounce straight back to the top flight.

Stoke stayed up fairly comfortably after hardly setting the Championship alight. Hull stayed up despite being absolute crap. West Brom failed, but in my opinion, Mowbray is a loser who hides behind pretty football. Coyle plays good football to win, not to look good.

Nope, we'll be fine. And it'll be a world away from percentage hoofball.

Fife should be banned, for sacrilege

What for? For speaking the truth? Just proves my point that the 3 generation gap has produced a nation of selfish inward looking people with little respect for anyone other than themselves. Edit: there are of course MANY exceptions to my generalisation, but nevertheless my point is a valid one overall.

I like your optimism but you should know that of the 16 teams promoted via play-offs to the Premier League only 5 clubs remain in the Premier League. Of those, Bolton got relegated and came back up a few years later and we welcome back Birmingham and Wolves. West Ham and Hull are the other 2. West Ham spent a fortune (before the credit crunch) and Hull, well - let's just say they hung on by a thread. Still, I'm sure you'll be fine... <_<

I actually think he has a point here, a team full of average players can make for a strong unit, a case of the sum of the parts blah blah blah

I honestly expect Burnley to survive is Owen stays.

There is room for both of us in this league, as long as we are above them that is.

I bet the police are planning derby day already, I remember last time a bunch of Burnley fans being met at Rishton station and marched all the way to Ewood

Does Dave Birch think that this is a sensible discussion?

Fife should be banned, for sacrilege (or crapping on his own doorstep?)

I think Fife has a very good point. A point that he further elaborated upon a few post on from this.

can't disagree with TGM's observation, something I might have pointed out earlier. I'd suggest that Sam is a juvenile and has yet to become the master of considered discussion.

No need.

Stats for last season.

Tugay...cracking player but 38...played in about half of the games...1 goal.

Alexander...cracking player but 37...played in every game...11 goals.

Tugay...in the Premier League.

Alexander...in the Championship.

He may be DB -but he is certainly right on this ..

which I totally agree upon - seems to be this can only be seen by fans of clubs not in the P/L

I think you'll find that number is 6.

The Axe leaves Blackburn Rovers for... another premier league side in Portsmouth.

Zurab was wanted last summer by... West Ham and now by Gala in Turkey.

Roberts IF he was put on the marker would be wanted by at least 4-5 premier league clubs.

Reid IF fit would walk into the Burnley side, he is another full international (as are the others above).

Tugay? With all due respect has Alexander ever played in the top flight? He is how old? No comparison with Tugs.

Andrews and Treacy I was maybe a little over zealous about, but the point I am making is that the players above are in my opinion (bar Tugay) premier league players...but only just, that is one step above the Burnley players, I am all ears to hear which Burnley players would get into the Rovers squad, if they are that good I expect bids to come in for them this summer?

No, it's 5. If you extend it back to the old First Division then of course you can include Rovers in that and also Sunderland. But it still makes the stats heavily against them staying up - that would make it 22 teams promoted, 7 still there, 5 of those relegated and re-promoted some years later. Interestingly, of those promoted to the premier league via play-offs there's quite a few that fell further than the championship too

This thread is excellent, so good in fact I just sent a link to Andy Payton.

It shows that a good percentage of you are absoultely scared stiff at the prospect of facing a much rejuvinated Claret side under the stewardship of O.C.

It shows that a good percentage of you really envy the football being played by Burnley at the moment.

It shows that a good percentage of you cannot give credit where credits due.

Let's hope Rovers improve their squad enough to give us a game next season, hoofing it up to Samba will not cut it against Burnley.
