Yesterday got me thinking about our other heavy defeats. I had a very quick search online but didn't find any sort of list, which is where you lot come in...

Was 4-0 to Aresenal our biggest defeat last year?

(Was there by the way and 6-2 was very harsh on us. Should fire us up for the dingles tho eh!).

We lost 6-0 at Maine Road 1983-ish. When you go back to the 50s etc there were a lot of high scoring defeats, weren't there Fife/Den/Al etc

In the Premier League we lost 5-0 at Coventry in the ice and snow (a colour blind Bohinen had to be subbed because he could not see the orange ball and Sutty suffered an ankle injury which ruled him out for the rest of the season) which is our heaviest defeat margin.

We have had the two 6-2s at the Emirates which is the only time we have conceded 6.

We haven't let 5 in that often- we lost 5-2 at home to Coventry (them again!) in the early '90s. We must have let in some other 5s but I cannot remember.

Of course Norwich, Forest, Sheffield Wednesday and West Ham have all conceded 7 at Ewood in the Prem and we have hit 5 several times but I cannot recall a 6.

My God that takes me back. I was there that day and it has to rank as one of the worst Rovers' performances of all time. We took a hiding. That was the longest journey of relection imaginable.

Gosh I was at an awful lot of those games jrabfc!

The 3-4 defeat to Bolton was probably one of Sam's finest moments for the Trotters, they came back from 3-1 down with 20 minutes remaining.

The 2-4 to Man U was the Gerald Ashby special.

The 2-4 against Leicester was Duff's debut and a day we could not live with a very young Emile Heskey who did all the damage.

The 1-4 against Arsenal was 0-3 after 15 minutes with Anelka running riot.

That Leeds home defeat was 3-4 at half time (Kewell destroyed us) which I believe is still the first half high for number of goals scored in the Premier League. I think there was a 5-3 with all the goals scored in the second half which beats it overall.

The Pompey 7-4 two seasons ago has the most goals in total. It also accounted for almost 50% of all the goals scored at Fraton Park that season- Pompey were real 1-0 and 0-0 merchants!

Any chance of a thread with a corresponding list of wins with 4 or more goals in the Prem?

I was born in 1949 so Don't remember an awful lot of the 50's you cheeky swine. Now Al and Fife will definately remember, - possibly even the 30's?

I still haven't got over the 7-1 defeat at Shrewsbury some of out older members may remember. I had only been to a couple of games as a very young lad and it was something I thought would happen every other week at the time.

We haven't conceded 7 since thank god, although it was on the cards yesterday.

Roger Jones was injured by the way for those wondering how it happened. Only 1 sub in those days.

Hmm. The problem with our 2009 version is Andrews is utterly awful, while Savage and Tugay were an excellent pair. Di Santo is an improvement over Nonda. Dunn is probably playing better than Bentely did at the moment.

Putt Hoilett on the right, Emerton in the centre and Samba back in at centreback and we do have a better team than 2006. The problem is loads of teams have improved exponentially. City, Villa, Spurs are massively improved compared to 2006.

So we have scored 7+ more times than any other team since the EPL began, not a bad stat to remember. Remember the 0-6 at Maine Road well. We got there just in time to see the 3rd goal hitting the back of the net after a 9.30am coach departure from Whalley..

Our record defeat in Premiership times is the 5-0 at Coventry and the only time we have lost a game by five goals in the last quarter of a century.

Highest conceded is six (with us scoring as well though) but I do not think we have actually lost by that margin in any competition since the City defeat in the 83/84 season. We actually beat them at Ewood in the return match however to somewhat make up for it...

I seem to remember the City game ended 6-1, with Brotherston scoring for us. I was stood in the Kipppax .....horrible experience all round.

No it was 6-0. We had three excellent chances and fluffed them all. They were very clinical; it wasn't one of those drubbings that could easily have been ten as they very nearly converted every chance they got.
