Guest Kamy100 Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Just got back. WOW what an atmosphere, especially the first 30 minutes. We were superior in the first half, could have scored 5 or 6. Second half it seemed that we decided we hold what we have. Burnley never looked like scoring or sustaining pressure until the last 5 minutes when they got desperate. In the end derby matches are all about WINNING. Well done to all the fans, simply awesome today. Roll On March!

Backroom Tom Posted October 18, 2009 Backroom Posted October 18, 2009 YEEEEEEEEEES Shoes Up if you love Rovers!!!! Great day, shame we sat back in the second half but a wins a win, we battered them for most of the game. Some class acts today, Dunn, Di Santo, the centre halves and Pedersen were all outstanding, Pedersen hardly put a foot wrong all game so feel he deserves a lot of credit. The ref seemed to make some bizarre decisions, how N'Zonzi's tackle was seen as deserving of the same punishment as Mears and Carlisles is beyond me, not to mention the debacle at the end. The beast gets lucky not to get a red then Rovers have a free kick, Dingles stand about 3 yards away, Pedersen points it out to the ref who refuses to get them back WTF Superb atmosphere from our lot, their fans were abysmal in honesty, loved the fireworks and the shoes up chants. Oh and Alexander better than our lot? laughable
Exiled_Rover Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Sam knows full well that Emerton, now 30-ish, earns his corn as a wing-back or full-back. He can't have played more than half a dozen games in cent mid in his career, as a water-carrier for Tugay if I remember. He's not the answer. And anyway, Andrews was not a problem today. We stood off them in the 2nd half and then, not for the first time, looked knackered for the last 20. Dunn went off to the left wing for a rest and Diouf was doing nothing, meaning we were doing no closing down of their back 4, who then had time to pick passes to some good off-the-ball running by their midfield. Allardyce clearly intructed them 'we hold what we have' at half time and his substitutions were defensive in nature, against a poor team who we were all over in the first half. I had visions of Man City all over again. 3 points and a win are great, but it should have been a trouncing. Andrews is ###### terrible. He has a few nice touches and covers a lot of ground, but it's all meaningless - he's a headless chicken. N'Zonzi needs an experienced head next to him, one that doesn't let opposing players run past him like he's not there and doesn't close down. If we had Savage (before he broke his leg) we'd be a MUCH better team. As Jim says, Emerton could fill that roll pretty well. He has the athleticism to get up and down the pitch along with the attitude of not giving the opposition time and space on the ball in our half - it's criminal how much of both Burnley (and L'Arse for that matter) had today.
RibbleValleyRover Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Sore throat, hoarse voice but well worth it. Fantastic atmosphere Great first half, poor second half. Thought we showed great character to come back from the early goal and overall bossed that first half after their goal. Great strike from Blake and nothing Robinson really could have done, though Jacobsen should have closed him down to at least try and put him off. Watching footage they will know that Blake has a decent shot on him and should have done better. Fantastic lay off from Di Santo and coolly finished off by Dunny for our first goal. Second goal, what a cock up by the beast but it was great to see Franco score his first goal (thought the booking was harsh on Franco for celebrating). Superb header by Pedersen and a great run and finish by Chimbonda for the third. Second half I think we took the foot off the gas a bit, stopped supporting the loan striker as much and lacked cutting edge up front. Fair play to Burnley for showing a bit of fight back in the second half, but i think that was largely due to us playing in a lower gear. Relieved to get the win at the end and happy that we hold the bragging rights for at least another 5 months. Thought all the players were superb, Di Santo and Dunny for me were our star players. Di Santo is going to be a real star and Dunny well what can you say he is playing like a man possessed right now, Dunny for England? I wouldn’t be surprised if keeps fit. Special mention to the ref, thought he had a superb game by keeping it flowing and playing advantage. Thought he was a bit harsh booking Di Santo for celebrating in front of our fans though.
bigbrandjohn Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Well it may not be the buzz of a local packed with pints and blue and white shirts but my Barnes and Noble is about to treated to a rare site in Bethlehem. A smiling Rovers fan with his pristine jersey lauding it over a capuccino. A little bit iron hoofy but thats as good as it gets for a celebration.
Backroom Tom Posted October 18, 2009 Backroom Posted October 18, 2009 Also on current form few could argue that Lampard is more deserving of an England squad place than our Dunny, never gonna happen though. The more I think about the second goal the more I laugh, what in the blue hell was Alexander even trying?
adopted scouser Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 I've got a funny feeling they'll score first and we'll all sh1tt ourselves, then we'll win 3 - 1. Why did they have to get that late goal ? I'd already written the headline
Al Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 I was pleased to see Di Santo clapping and pointing to his badge as he came off. He obviously likes being a Rover.
Exiled_Rover Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 I was pleased to see Di Santo clapping and pointing to his badge as he came off. He obviously likes being a Rover. He's going to be in for a shock when he goes back to Chelsea "What do you mean I don't have to run myself into the ground every week?!"
Iceman Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Despite the win, still very concerned at the defending. 8 goals in 2 games, and again our players deciding to back off, instead of closing down. It seems a lack of communication is causing this, as Burnley's 2nd goal should never have been scored. Nelsen or Samba should have cut that ball out, and Givet should have been aware of whats happening. Andrews had a good game, but Bert needs to be alongside Nzonzi. I thought at half time, that Sam would bring on an extra striker, as we were always comfortable except for the last 5 mins. All in all a very good performance, and bragging rights continue. That was easy does it, and mission complete.
Backroom Tom Posted October 18, 2009 Backroom Posted October 18, 2009 Sorry to post again but after the dust has settled the importance of a win in this game cannot be played down regardless of the opponent. Home wins in our last two games have afforded us a bit of slack in the away games at Arsenal, Chelsea and United which we were always expected to get 0 points from. I expected us to be sat deep in the bottom 3 by the end of October which may not be the case now.
Iceman Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 He's going to be in for a shock when he goes back to Chelsea "What do you mean I don't have to run myself into the ground every week?!" No, but he could be asking "when am i starting a game Coach" or "Coach, why am i on the bench again?"
Backroom Tom Posted October 18, 2009 Backroom Posted October 18, 2009 I'm sure that beer in the sun tastes all the better now Gav!

In the end derby matches are all about WINNING. Well done to all the fans, simply awesome today. Roll On March! I'd agree with all of that. I reckon at half time Sam reminded them to be professional and make sure we didn't throw away the points. It did temper the second half (a lot) and we looked to lack ambition, which was disappointing as a fan. I thought the ref was poor - particularly in the second half. Can't see why Jensen didn't get sent off after racing out of his goal to completely take out Roberts. I'm sure it should be classed as a goal-scoring opportunity. Then again, Roberts wouldn't have got close anyway. Just a shame they got that last one, it kind of took the gloss off to see those dingles jumping up and down like they'd won. Until I realised (and eventually I think they did) that they hadn't. No doubt they'll bang on about us being lucky. For me they are the lucky ones. History's vidiprinter will show it as a close match when really it wasn't. March 27th...
Mr. E Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 It has to be preventing a clear goalscoring opportunity, Roberts had knocked it towards the corner and their were two defenders near the goal. That would have been overturned on appeal if he'd been sent so it was the correct decision. Disagreed. Yes Roberts was wide, but technically he had a shot at an open goal. The defenders could not have gotten to it if Roberts had taken a shot.

That was easy does it, and mission complete. I prefer to look at it as 3 points out of 6 based on Arsenal away and Burnley at home. Much better ring to it, Icers. I just hope we can take some heart from this game - which is why I would have preferred Sam to let them off the leash a bit more and made it 5 or 6. But in his defence, he got the job done. By the way, off topic, it was great to hear Blackburn (by Seven) before the match and during half time.

The defenders could not have gotten to it if Roberts had taken a shot. StuWilky said it best in ground, the ref obviously took into account that it was Jason roberts therefore not a clear goalscoring opportunity. I feel for Roberts at times though, at one stage today he was totally manhandled and nothing yet as soon as he uses his strength the whistle blows for a free kick. Anyone know if the dingle in the executive box in the BBE got kciked out after his antics at 1-0?
Clitherover Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Just got back, sat in the JW lower right near the dingles, was a fantastic atmosphere gave them lot loads of stick...
Stuart Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 What happened towards the end of the game with the 'fan' being dragged out of Ewood by the stewards? Was he a dingle trying to get on the pitch?
RibbleValleyRover Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 I think it would have been harsh to send him off, though i have seen them given... I thought the ref overall had a decent game, he tried to keep it flowing and played advantage often (some other ref's would have stopped play a lot more). Only really thing he did wrong imo was book Di Santo, i could understand if it was in front of the Burnley fans but it was in front of our own.

Only really critical thing he did imo was book Di Santo, i could understand if it was in front of the Burnley fans but it was in front of our own. I thought the ref was very one-sided in his view of the 50/50 challenges and we always came of second best. Yet Bumley players were allowed to go through the back of players to tackle and he called many fouls against us 'advantage' just because the ball came a Rovers player. His use of his cards was ridiculous. The same punishment for Jensen (taking out a player out of his box, and never ever going to get near the ball) as Di Santo for celebrating a goal in a massive local derby fixture. At one point, he gave a decision a good 5 seconds after an incident which looked a decent challenge. I wasn't impressed at all.
LeChuck Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 A lot of referees would have also given a foul against Di Santo for his goal so we can't really complain. Di Santo himself looked like he expected a foul to be given, it took him a couple of seconds after scoring to start celebrating. I think it was the right decision but it was a close one - exactly like Jensen and Carlisle too.
