Can someone please tell me what the attraction of World of Warcraft is?

I've got a mate who puts pictures up on facebook of him running through a forest dressed as a goblin fighting his mates. It's completely crackers.

I honestly don't get it at all.

That's not WoW (which is a computer game), that's LARP (Live Action Role Playing), which is something even Dungeons & Dragons players laugh at for being sad and geeky. Running around a wood as a Night Elf with a foam sword is too weird, even for me. On the geek pecking order, LARPers are just above Furries and Erotic Fan Fiction Authors.

As for WoW, describing the appeal like asking why people take heroin, or follow Rovers. It seems great fun at first, but soon you life is taken over with misery and despair, but some how you just can't help going back for more.
