FourLaneBlue Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 Other than Garside pushing the two Prem divisions idea, there is not one vote to bring the Old Firm in, never mind the 14 needed to get it passed. Why is Gartside interested in having the Old Firm in? How would it do anything but make it more difficult for his Bolton side to keep above the relegation spots each year? Makes no sense other than for the Old Firm.

It could work if the two tier thing guarantees safer revenue (by the second tier being well funded and marketed) and more or near amounts of existing cash, and they bundle that with the Old Firm joining. Not sure exactly how it would work, but it seems the only plausible approach. Basically the 14 votes will need to be bought by making those clubs somehow richer and safer. However he decision lies with the broadcasters rather than the Premier League. They are the ones with the money. If they reckon the Old Firm in England makes significantly more cash then they can make it happen. Not sure it would do really though? It would generate a lot more subscribers in Scotland and Ireland (combined only a 5th of the English market), and a bit of media/exposure bubble, but that's about it. If they were excited about the prospect we would have heard alot more about it by now.
neekoy Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 They just play in both leagues, have Celtic Reserves and Rangers Reserves start playing in the conference whilst the first teams play in Scotland.
JC4LAB Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 No way..Might be good for local pub business(know a Manc pub that sold out of beer during the Rangers Visit and took treble takings) but might just introduce a lot of supporters the Premiership to the infamous Glasgow kiss .
philipl Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Judging by how they are doing in Europe, the current Rangers and Celtic teams would probably not survive long in the Prem before being relegated. If the Scots wouldn't have them back, perhaps they could go play in Iceland.
brian_gallagher85 Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Poor old Rangers ...losing to a team that sound like a load of pish
