Seems harsh considering that he's got them back to back promotions over the last two seasons.

Very, very harh. Surprised at that one.

I wonder if they've overspent achieving those back-to-back promotions, and now cannot afford to get relegated? Problem is, if indeed they don't think they can entrust their survival to a fairly new manager, who's going to come in and change things? They're not exactly a big club, and I can't see too many managers of better ilk than Darren Ferguson being interested in the job.
