meerkat Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Struggling League Two side Grimsby have sacked manager Mike Newell after a poor start to the season. The Mariners lost at home to Rochdale on Saturday - their fourth league defeat in succession - which left them second bottom of the table. A club statement read: "Despite the intention for support beyond the recent poor results, the club has dismissed Mike due to irretrievable breakdown." Youth team boss Neil Woods will take over as caretaker manager. (BBC)

LeChuck Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 In possibly the strangest football news story since...well, I can't remember...rumours on Newell's successor: England women's coach Hope Powell in line for Grimsby job? I don't know what to make of that. Edit: Disgusting reaction on the BBC Live text this evening: "Hmm, sounds like something fishy's going on down at Blundell Park".
broadsword Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Would she be allowed in the dressing room?
Grabbi Graeme Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 I think it's only a matter of time before a league club does seriously consider Powell for a managers job, she has the coaching credentials and experience, she probably has more coaching badges than Ince.

AggyBlue Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Would she be allowed in the dressing room? Just the kitchen and laundry I'd imagine

I'm afraid with the ego of the modern footballer, no matter what division they're in, I won't see a female managing a league team in my time. Could you imagine them taking orders from a female, no matter how talented she is?
thenodrog Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Would she be allowed in the dressing room? Only as long as she got in the bath after the match and played hide the soap.
