Pedersen is lucky we play a five-man midfield, otherwise Sam would have no excuse to squeeze him into the team. Is he good enough going forward? Not really. It's still a problem position. Defensively? No, definitely not his strength. So why does he play? Set-pieces and long throws. All part of the percentage game. This isn't even a critcism - it's an observation.

I really am setting sick of this damn thread being bumped every time we lose. What does Pedersen bring to the side? well for a start he keeps Andrews out of it, regardless of what many people say he is still good with his set pieces and for tracking back he far better than average!

i thought eh diouf had a really good game, really improved since last season.

I really cant see what you guys see in peders he's slow going forward, doesnt score, cant pass or cross anymore in open play and doesnt defend.

All hes good at is set pieces. And a team like rovers who lack world star quality cant afford to have a man just for set pieces.

Those whp think he had a good game plz re-watch it and let me know how many forward passes he completed.

What does Ped add? Well currently he is our best passer of the ball and he covers a huge amount of ground. He is quite decent defensively. Not a perfect player but wihthout him we would be screwed at the moment.

If Popov comes in or if Dunn gets fit I would like Pedersen to play deeper alongside one of Jones or Nzonzi. We need more quality on the ball back there and I think Pedersen can provide it.

Best passer? If he's our best passer, we're doomed. According to the Guardian chalkboard thingy, last week he had a pass completion rate of 38%. Of the balls he played into the box, he had a 0% - yes, zero - completion rate.

Yesterday's game was slightly better with a completion rate of 52%, however compare that to for example Diouf (72%), Salgado (75%), N'Zonzi (87%) and I'm not sure where you get it from that he's the best passer?

The only thing he really offers is the set pieces, and he will do a job in midfield as a stop-gap until January but in the transfer window we should be looking to buy 2 quality midfielders. If one of those can take half-decent set pieces too then Pedersen's days are numbered.

If anything I think what joey means and forgive me if I'm wrong is that he is the best passer in the team from a technical aspect and also a creative one. Pass completion for me is only one aspect of passing and is warped as you cannot tell whether he attempted 3 passes or 10, how long they where or the situation they were made in.

Peds is a good box to box midfielder, and would slot in next to N'Zonzi very well I think. He's not great offensively or defensively, but he is decent (to good on current form) at both, which is what is needed to add balance in the team. His set plays are his biggest asset but that is far from the sum total of what he is offering to rovers.

Personally we need to get rid of Andrews and Grella - neither of whom can really do the box to box role (or any other for that matter) - before we even think of moving Peds on.

Factor in Emerton doesn't look like the player he once was, that Peds provides cover for the left mid position and most significantly we play 5 in the midfield, I've a feeling Peds is going to be a significant part of the team for years to come.

And if he continues with the form prior to the penalty miss that he has shown this season, I'll be very happy to see that.

Exactly what I mean.

Nzonzi will have a good pass completion rate as he always takes the easiest option. Nothing wrong with that, good for the team and keeps possession, but you need someone who is going to look for the key pass and Pedersen is our only player who does that.

Maybe we should always tell MGP that he is playing against Norwich.

Not just tonight Eddie, he's been our best player so far this season carrying on the form from the latter half of last season. I repeat what I said in another thread, he's the best all round footballer at the club and the most important member of this team. He's also one of the best signings this club has ever made - thank you Graeme Souness (now there's a first).

Cue my stalker to rubbish all of the above.

Brilliant tonight.

His corners looked a bit floaty but all were accurate. Need to keep in mind it was against a team who were 2 divisions lower than us recently but his form is a real plus.

You like saying nice things about Souness...

I agree though, MGP gets more stick than he deserves and has been very good so far this year.

MGP looks like hes coming into his peak, which can only be good for us Rovers fans.

I remember when we were playing at Spurs last season the sky microphones picked up on a Spurs fan shouting "You're too good for Blackburn" when he was taking a corner. Doesn't really mean anything, but I do think he is a very well respected Premiership player.

I would have been very disappointed if he had left.

Normally the first player that any opposition fan says is a threat when playing against them.
