Mike Graham Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Games to be played week commencing 30th November. thanks RVR I hope it is not the Wednesday as I am away in London that night
Finch Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Wonder if any of the remaining teams were hoping they would get us as an 'easy draw'
67splitscreen Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Can Di Santo play in the cup games against them, or is it just a Premier ruling. Just realized he wasn't allowed to play in the previous rounds (cup tied)
RibbleValleyRover Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Can Di Santo play in the cup games against them, or is it just a Premier ruling. He can't play.
Finch Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Oh well, at least it wasn't Chelsea away. Can't they do a cup without the top six or something, so the rest of us might have a chance of getting one? Pity we didn't give them the flu after our last visit to the bridge Can Di Santo play in the cup games against them, or is it just a Premier ruling. I have a feeling that it's based on the loan deal for each player. I have known loan players playing against the team that owns them.
Presty On Tour Posted October 31, 2009 Author Posted October 31, 2009 Least we are at home and have got a chance. Lets not throw in the towel before kick off!
jonv Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Chelsea away. Well, up until kick off we're still in this competition. When they kick off it'll be 0-0 with both teams on an even plate. If we get a full strength squad going in against a weak Chelsea squad, you can never say never right? It's a little whilst away and lets hope they get a sudden horrid run of form and injuries and flu and mass exodus of players and anything else we can but pray for This really does feel unfair. Arsenal, Chelsea, Man United, Chelsea... all we need is Liverpool in the 3rd round of the F.A Cup.
Beta Ray Bill Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 thanks RVR I hope it is not the Wednesday as I am away in London that night Almost certainly will be as Chelsea play Arsenal on the Sunday before.
philipl Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Any draw except Pompey home was looking very difficult. At least we have a home draw and we have lulled Chelsea into a false sense of security...
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 So what happens now!......does Sam 'throw one in' at home to Chelsea?
because of boxing day Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Route to the cup! We defeat Chelsea...............then get winners of Pompey/Villa in the semi.......then Big Sam does a master tactical job on whichever unfortunate "Big Club" reaches the final. The glass is always always half full.............ever the optimist!
Ben-2000 Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Let's hope the fans turn up aswell as the players. A decent crowd with a positive formation and we're in with a chance.
Exiled in Toronto Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Defeatist rabble. Chelsea reserves at home is a great draw, gives us every chance of yet another Semi-final
Plastic Head Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 The game is 2 days after they play Arsenal away and 4 days before they play Man City away. Interesting.
modes98 Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 If you want to win any cup you have to beat the best and although I was hoping for an easier tie it is a one off game and anything can happen.
Mr. E Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Home or not Chelsea are the toughest team on the Island...unless they really do play complete reserves, it's gonna take a miracle.
philipl Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 At least we will have had our swine flu by then. Put a good crowd on at Ewood and there is no reason at all why Rovers shouldn't severely test whatever side Ancelotti selects. I think this is as much about how much the Rovers supporters want to see the club succeed as anything else.
LeChuck Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 The game is 2 days after they play Arsenal away and 4 days before they play Man City away. Interesting. That is very interesting. Historically they do always play strong teams in the League Cup, but given that fixture run you can't see anything but a weakened side being put out against us.
philipl Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Ominous precedent- Chelsea beat Bolton 4-0 away and 4-0 at home.
bobsterbrfc Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Plastic Head's comment is theonly positive spin I would give too much weight to. Will be more interesting if they were to lose to Arsenal and have greater need to pick up points at City.
ABBEY Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 most people on here dont think we are allowed on the same pitch as them let alone heaven forbid try and win...oooops forgot sam wont try against them again.
Steve Moss Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Hey, we made the top 8 and the squad will have a chance to show us what they can do against Chelsea a month from now. I actually optimistic as I think the 5-0 was a fluke and we'll have dramatically improved by then. And it would be sweet revenge to put Chelsea out of running for the cup.
cn174 Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 as I think the 5-0 was a fluke Honestly?? You think were unlucky to get beat 5-0 last week?
Steve Moss Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Luck had nothing to do with it. It was terrible display and could have been worse but the squad have shown they can do better. If we had shown up, equaled our best performance of the season but were still hammered 5-0, I would be very worried. A lot of factors were working against us, not the least of which was the flu. Chelsea has not played us at our best. I believve that at home we will be playing at our best, and with Dunn, Samba, Chimbonda back on line, and Kalinic coming into his own, we can win.
