[Archived] Sam's January Targets

Okaka is perhaps another we could do worse than look at, I thought he had joined Fulham but Roy is saying tonight it's not a done deal. He's no world beater yet but has pace and is obviously available on loan.

To be honest it's been pretty quiet on all transfer dealings for us over the last few days apart from the odd link to Reo Coker and O'Neill which just sounds like poor reporting to me considering our transfer budget. I'm honestly thinking all deals are on hold until at least Monday.

Just seen on sky that it's looking like hull. We should be looking at short term

deals like that. Interesting that hull were saying last week thY they needed to cut the wage bill, wonder if zamalak are still going to be paying part of his wages just to get him out on loan. I didn't think hull had the money to bring anyone else in.

He is trouble Ricky, best to stay well clear. If he had just one unprofessional incident then fair enough he would be worth a gamble, but Zaki is a serial offender.

Apparently his attitude isn't the best and is asking for upwards of 30 grand.

Pearson was on the radio saying there would be no funds available, even if they offloaded the 7-8 fringe players they didn't want. So far they appear to have got rid of no-one. The only reason he is joining must be to placate the fans because of Hunt reportedley joining Wolves

Where's the Abbeys targets thread? My choice for next manager is Abbey with his assistants Hughesy and Miker :P

I get the distinct impression the board are holding back the funds as it may be needed elsewhere come Monday

How I wish we could go back to a team with a bit of bite about us ala the early Hughes days.

Funny that people said we couldn't compete with the Brum midfield recently cause of Bowyer and Ferguson, neither of which would have been wanted at Ewood a couple of seasons ago, now we'd snap them up.

Same with the likes of O Neill, now he seems like he could be decent but in the past he would be scoffed at, shows how we've fallen

Yes, Sam, no finances. How clever of you. You've managed to alienate 50% of our strike force, openly offering them up to any taker whilst continually blaming them for the team's shortcomings.

I agree completely. One of the things i can't stand most is how Sam keeps telling the whole world how our strikers are not performing but the reason they're not performing is that he's not playing them and insist on a 1-goal striker for most of our games!

How has Sam alienated 50% of his strike force? I suggest they've alienated him (and us). Robert's form has been atrocious, Benni came back from his hols fat as a pig and admits he hasn't met the fitness targets Sam set him! Then he goes on about missing the World Cup in South Africa as if its Sam's fault. You'd be no good as a manager, the players would have it all over you. Those two have been treated exactly as they deserve. They are not the future, they are the past.

Absolutely. Benni and Roberts are not the way forward. They are, in my opinion, disgruntled has beens. They should sit themselves done in a bar and listen to Springsteen's "Glory Days" over and over again, as soon all they'll have is the memories.

He is trouble Ricky, best to stay well clear. If he had just one unprofessional incident then fair enough he would be worth a gamble, but Zaki is a serial offender.

Zaki is a train wreck. I'd stay well away.

On the other hand, with Portsmouth and Burnley imploding, I now have a favorite (Hull) for the third drop position.

Just underneath the 'Deluded Newcastle fans who never learn call for Keegan' thread.

I've changed that so it's right.

My brummie mate thinks we need to sign someone like Barton to fill the gap in centre mid. I don't really like the man or anything that comes with him but he would do a job to the end of the season.

Until Rovers sell somebody, they will not be buying anybody. The football on view from Rovers must be really bad in everybody elses eyes, because according to Sam, no offers have come in for any of the players. Most transfer windows we are having to fight clubs off - this season, nobody is coming for the sale.

Some Stuart Holden new:

Apparently he's done well during his trial at Bolton and they're mulling over whether to offer him a contract. Which I translate as a "yes we will but want to play coy to improve the terms" tactic.

I think we've missed the boat with Stuart Holden.

I don't think it is about missing the boat, my guess is we just didn't want him that much, if at all. We could have easily seized him from under Burnley's noses with their pathetic wage structure, but we didn't. It really suggests we aren't game. Which seems like a shame, if only because the lad is free, fairly young, an international in perhaps the most improved team in world football in recent years, with low wages and qualifies for the home grown rule (I think).

Edit- hmm, think he might not qualify as a home grown ironically, despite being a British citizen...

So I guess the *funds* will be withheld until after the 2nd leg to judge the blessed one, on more than one occasion.

And then it will be too late to really bother getting back into the market. Convenient.

My estimation at the end of January. Out: Van Heerden. In: Zilch. Retained: BM, JR, Status Quo. Actually, they'd probably do a job for us.
