could Rovers not pull the Croatian forward out of Bolton to partner Nikola. Is he not on loan with a £1.4m end of season price

Not quite...Bolton paid £1.4 million to take him on loan for a season.

I'm not sure if there is a future fee set...but if there is I bet it is well above that figure.

All relate to us in one way or another:

Everton boss David Moyes is ready to sell striker James Vaughan in the January transfer window.

Full story: Daily Mirror

Fulham boss Roy Hodgson has made a move to sign out-of-favour Stoke striker James Beattie.

Full story: Daily Mirror

West Ham are set to make Blackburn striker Benni McCarthy the first signing of the David Gold/David Sullivan era after lodging a £1.2m bid.

Full story: Daily Star

And Gold said: “Benni would be a good acquisition. It is possible – it’s just a question of whether we can do business.”

We paid that much for Andrews!

A massive point for us is that we seem to have a few new young players coming through (Olsson, Hoilett, Jones, NZonzi) and in Reid a more experienced player coming back. This is changing the structure and size of the squad a bit and really a massive goal over the next couple of weeks, or failing that in the summer, is to rebalance things.

1) Diouf literally gives us nothing, has been superceded by Olsson and Hoilett, and must be costing a bomb. If we lost him and brought in a very good young central midfielder with the wages we would be set up. Major problems with finding a buyer though.

2) Also if we could sell Jacobsen or Salgado and replace with a proper left back that would be fantastic business. Probably Jacobsen is the more likely as he will be attractive to some.

3) If I was JW and Sam I would be looking at the Reid/Dunn/Grella triumvate of treatment and think that for the sake of consistency we need fitter players. Reid is just back so might be able to sort himself out, but Grella and Dunn really seem like they are simply never going to be where we need them to be. Sad as they are both decent enough.

I would be sorely tempted to give both Dunn and Reid heavily appearence based contracts, and if they don't like them they can go which is probably what would happen as a Hull or Stoke will take a punt and beat terms. Grella I guess we just have to take a hit on as there is no chance of shifting, and he is on long contract.

4) Pedersen. Hmm. I thought we should sell, but he looked good in the centre of midfield and is having a bit of a renaissance. Probably just wants to secure a contract/move? However due to the fact he is fit he is probably worh more to us than Dunn/Reid/Grella.... I would see how he does over the next five games and consider upping contract talks.

5) McCarthy - see Pedersen. With a new younger team coming through his experience , creativity and quality could be invaluable. But does he want to play for us?

6) Roberts - sell. Simple really. Beattie would represent a good replacement. We need experience to compliment Kalinic and Di Santo.

Do all that and we are sorted!

As much as a couple of fresh faces would be nice to see at the club, I would be satisfied sticking with what we have already got.

The summer is the time to do business, particularly for Rovers, as the prices are cheaper and players that are being scouted can come over for trials pre-season.

I see that Rothen has struggled mightily at Rangers and is looking to leave as soon as possible, so credit where its due to Sam.

I cant see us getting in anybody to be honest, We aint getting overwhelmed with offers for players.

Looks like wi'll be sticking with what we have.

No I think both Roberts & Benni might leave before the deadline...and we will sign 1 or 2 im sure.

I also think the likes of Stoke, Wolves, Brum & West Ham will start dealing abit more soon. And IF pompey get their ban lifted - they will no doubt try and do some quick business again.

Nice find, 47er.

The article seems to be a summary of an original article in French from sofoot.com and links us with defenders Paul Baysse of Sedan and Kevin Malaga of Auxerre. Has anyone been able to locate the original article and do any of our French football "watchers" have any insights regarding this story? Is this old news over in France? Does the story have any substance...? And if the story does have legs, are the players up to scratch?

What happened to that Asian fella who was being trialled or something?

Is this yet another window where we sign no-one but get linked with every tom dick and harry...

Not many windows go by without us making any signings. We'll get linked with many players in the media but it's up to you who you believe. If we can sign the right player(s) I'm sure we will, if that is not possible then we'll wait till the summer.

There were some big performances last night that shows that the future may not be filled with as much doom and gloom as some on this messageboard make out.

Some good points in that post Joey, but I found this one bizarre. Of the three, he has played the least time in the last 18 months by far and away. Yes he just came back, but it wasn't one injury which kept him out so long. As frustrating as the other two's injury problems are, we do get some games out of them, and they can change games. On both these counts, my instincts tell me that Reid is a spent force. I hope I'm wrong, because he is precisely the kind of player we could do with now.

i like the look of karacan from reading he is still only young and is a good center mid, plus it said in todays LET he is a rovers fan

Yeah I read that a turkish under 21 creative midfielder, that supports Blackburn and has a brother who is a rovers season ticket holder.
