If it's a straight choice between Basturk and Eguren, I would take Eguren. He can (and does) score with either foot and is a good header as well. Added to which he can pick out lovely long or short passes and obviously reads the game well. Just take a look at him on U-Tube and you will see what I mean. I know it is a different league we are talking about, but the point is he has obviously got all this NATURAL ability, and Sam will soon get him up to speed in our league.

Jeez. I can't remember the last time I was actually excited about transfer news. Hold on, yes I can it was Roque Santa Cruz (and to some extent Kalinic although I'd never heard of him - it was largely the fee involved!).

This thread contains names of young players that no-one has ever heard of and players on the continent who are old/out of form/troublesome/rubbish (delete as appropriate).

Obviously the lack of funds and our league position means that attracting decent players is hard, but this isn't going to improve and especially not in the summer when those out of contract can simply leave on a free. Adding to this is that the academy doesn't seem to be turning out anything other than mediocre Championship players with the possible exception of Jones.

An utterly depressing transfer window.

As a follow-up to alexanders' post on the news in the Financial Times Deutschland re Basturk. Here's a translation of the bits relevant to the Rovers...

"Midfielder Yildiray Basturk of VfB Stuttgart is on the verge of a transfer to Blackburn Rovers of the English Premier League.

According to the Stuttgarter Zeitung, negotiations between the club from the northwest of England and the 31-year-old are reported to be close to completion. On the previous day, the English newspaper Daily Mail had already reported on the planned transfer of Basturk to the team lying twelfth in the table. The deal would at first involve a loan for the German-born Turk, with a longer-term deal to be discussed only after the termination of his contract with VfB Stuttgart at the end of the season."

I thought Basturk was the passing/attacking one and Eguren was the midfield battler? Have I mis-read?

You got excited about Roque ? To be honest - though Hughes proved us wrong - I couldn't understand at the time why we were spending so much on a player no longer rated in Germany, with an horrendous injury record and scoring record. To be honest - but for one good season, and City being generous - longer term he may not have seen such a good buy (mainly due to his injury record). It is a shame - but for his injury record - he must be amongst the best forwards we have had over the last 20 years.

Would you consider relegation Hughesy?

Do you think it would relegate us?

We should take Basturk and Eguren both on loan....then in the summer we have to choose between Reid, MGP, Dunn, Basturk and Eguren. That way it gives us more options in the summer & a better bargaining tool when trying to keep/ reduce wages down.

You're right in that that is what you have read, but if you look at the U-tube vids (all of them) you will see very little sign of defensive play from him, and almost 100% attacking MF play. Don't know where the idea came from that he a DMF.

You should know by now Hughesy that selling a Rovers player now and saving the money doesn't mean the funds will be there in the summer...

Perhaps they should consider giving Sam his own little piggy bank to do his wheeling and dealing with.wink.gif

Thats why I said IF.....IF they did that, we would save over £4m which in the summer would be very useful to help get a better player in a more open market. January is an awful time to trade unless you want ripping off.....

Also in the summer Sam should have abit more room to do things with the contracts of MGP, Reid & Dunn all running down - just hope none of them are due some sort of loyalty bonus!?!

If we are left with Roberts, Di Santo and Kalinic and the latter doesn't continue on his form then we are in trouble. As I said I don't think we score enough goals from midfield. MGP has picked up but our best threat in recent games has been Olsson!

I wouldn't mind if we brought in an AM that has scored a fair few goals, but they aren't cheap. I would rather we brought in Beattie or someone who has goals at the top level.

Correct me if I am wrong, but hasn't Nicko told us the the board are going to release funds for Sam. Wasn't this after the city game and board meeting. So by selling Bennie now - for example 2 to 3 million, should not Sam have that plus whatever other funds they release to spend in this market?

Nicko said Sam had asked for funds. I don't recall anything about the club agreeing, or otherwise to this Pafell.

Blackburn eye striker Eidur Gudjohnsen and midfielder Yildiray Basturk

Gudjohnson and Basturky

Yes yes yes yes. Im hot for everything in that. Can nobody please dispute this link as this is these are the only vaguely exciting links we've had this window.

And Nicko said there will be an 11 o'clocker, at 11 o'clock which is ironic.

Ewood Park WILL be empty next season if either of these two come on board.
