Mark van bommel.

Aaron Hunt.

Cacau.

Makoto Hasebe.

Ricardo Coasta.

Tobias Weis.

Ashkan Dejagah.

Halil Altintop.

Petit.

Steve von Bergen.

Hanno Balitsch.

Javier Pinola.

Roberto Hilbert.

Christoph Spycher.

Lukasz Piszczek .

Arnold Bruggink

Tinga.

Steven Cherundolo.

Florian Heller.

Yacine Abdessadki.

Sergio Pinto.

Chadli Amri.

The first five would be great additions to our squad. :D

142 pages of transfer rumors and we are once again coming up to the final week of a transfer window having done utterly nothing on the get-creative-midfielder front. I realize we have no money, but is there absolutely no one of quality that would come to us? Dunn is always injured, and if Benni is on his way out, we'll have no one at all to take charge of a game and make things happen. Not looking good...

I know its tribal

We want a pay as you pay deal with Yildiray Basturk.

Ernesto Valverde angry at Eguren (in spanish)

Villareal coach Ernersto Valverde blasts Eguren's lack of motivation and calls him selfish.

Reading about these two you have to ask, why hasnt Allardyce realised that he has no room for a gamble and that the players hes bringing in now have to be up and running straight into the team and highly effective.

It comes across as Allardyce being stuck on pause from several years ago continually refering to the past.

The opportunity to back or sack has passed and they've chosen status quo stagnation, once again.

I can't grasp how they can have such good business acumen in their other business ventures.

They couldn't even cough up some tax break wango to help the club out.

Shamefull.

And the answer is remarkably simple. Allardyce doesn't have the funds to obtain players who are not gambles. Not that blowing huge loads of money on players who look like sure things is any guarantee anyway (Alves anyone?). It becomes easier to make less risky buys if you buy older players, but this is a gamble of another sort- one with the long-term future of the club at stake. I hope that isn't something he gambles.

And who has been active in the market then? No-one is the answer. It will all happen in the final week, I have no doubt in my mind that negotiations are taking place.

Precisely. If we had been left behind by other clubs doing mega deals, I could understand doom and gloom but at the moment nobody much is buying or selling anything worth getting your knickers in a twist over, and until someone spends then there isn't room for movement. i think there's even more taking it to the wire going on this window because clubs need to sell and those who want to buy know that some clubs are in a parlous financial state and will have to sell lower if they really need to get rid. also the big boys aren't spending, which means it's not filtering through to the lower teams

Been thinking about our defence since the Villa game, Birmingham have picked up 2 players in Dann and Johnson from the championship who have setup a really good partnership. Our defence is slow and gets caught out to often. I think it would be worth sam scouting around the championship for a CB. Sean St Ledger isn't to shabby at Preston. Also helps us with the home grown players rule.

Would St Ledger count as "home grown" if he's an Ireland International? Does the fact he was born in England count?

It all gets rather confusing

I don't think it has anything to do with where you were born or what nationality you are. The important thing is whether they have trained in England for three years between the ages of 17 and 21.

Not seen that Soccerbase before, very interesting. Basically, £30 million a season on transfers seems to be what's needed for a top 6. You can double that if you're trying to push your way in at the top. The exception is Arsenal; circa £50 million over the last three seasons and circa £60 million being sold over the same period, fair play.

I think he was quoted in the LET saying exactly this about a week ago. Seems a bit odd if he's now appearing to go against this....

Lets hope its just paper talk, with the journalists clutching at straws trying to justify their salary.
