How can Sam be blamed for these?

The players are paid to play - or are you suggesting that the players be allowed to rule.

Time for the club to back the manager and get rid of players who don't want to play for the club.

Seems to me phillipl that you've joined the "Sam is the blame for everything club"

Spot on Parson....quality post and exactly how I see it. Dunn apparently loves the club, yet a manager can sway his mind on a contract?? Bull$hit!

What are the odds that this time next week we won't have signed anyone?

So short that no book maker would bother opening a market.

I'm all for selling Benni, but recent history suggests that we will either a. not adequately replace him or b. not replace him at all.

I'm not necessarily advocating bringing in a new striker. We tend to play 4-5-1 in the vast majority of games and have Kalinic and Di Santo who can both lead the line well. However, in this formation, the role of the wingers and the attack-minded midfielder become especially important and, when Dunn is injured, we lack in these positions. Either bring in a decent forward replacement for Benni and employ a 4-4-2 formation, or use the money to bring in a good attacking / creative / passing midfielder or a good winger to chip in with goals.

Rovers have to work out the best move PB. They have to weigh up whether there is player unrest with Sam's style/tactics, and decide whether the manger can salvage the position.

Player power 'n all that.

No I haven't joined the Sam haters but it is pretty obvious he is not doing a good job.

By far and away the best thing for the club would be for Sam to get his act together and give us some of the Bolton Sam and not the re-fighting lost battles at Newcastle Sam.

However, Sam has not helped himself by getting the players against him- some more than others. The locked dressing room episode at Man City is not disputed by anybody.

I think we lost Warnock and Tugay when we didn't need to, we have plenty of stories that Benni is being forced out (and Roberts as well) whilst Dunn and Hoilett are not signing contracts when they are apparently perfectly happy with the cash being offered. There are other players Sam needs to win back to his side as well so there is an inciipient if not an actual dressing room revolt and my goodness you only need to watch the football we have been playing to see that there is trouble at t'mill.

This is not insider talk- this is stuff as plain as the nose on Sam's face.

If it were insider stuff I'd mention MGP, Samba, Diouf and Andrews by which time we are up to 8 current and 2 former players' names are in the frame and there is another name who is supposed to have rowed with him.

There is only a week of the window left and Sam is not going to get rid of all 9 is he? So he's going to have to work with what he's got and that is either a Premier-status threatening problem or a challenge Sam is going to rise to.

What we have seen in flashes and particularly at Villa Park is that Rovers CAN PLAY FOOTBALL.

Sam has got to get back on top of his game.

Sam handled it wrong, don’t slate a players fitness or effort in the press, end of. Keep it in the office or training pitch.

Benni has handled it wrong, he wants to go (and so would I after what my manager has said about me in the press) but at most put in a transfer request and say your unhappy with the amount of game time and you want to leave,

Both parties are at fault and tbh I can’t see a happy solution as I can see WHU getting put off fast.

As anti-sam as I am, I think he needs to win this one with Benni and let him go, publish a media statement saying he wasn't good enough for us and we need to look at bringer in players of better quality.

Benni is a brat, pure and simple. If he wants out, show him where the door is, no player should be seen holding the club to ransom.

If you put in a transfer request, you'll lose your loyalty bonuses, so he won't be doing that. Better to force the sale by refusing to play or train.. ###### footballers.

Well I am glad you have said all that Phil, because that is pretty much how I see it too. My only reason for asking if you had become a Sam hater was that I genuinely feel that Sam is our only realistic hope of staying up this season, and if the more "thinking" types of supporter turn on him now we are in deep trouble. I tend not to have much regard to the obvious loud mouths and other assorted numpties (you will always have a large helping of them in any football club) but when long standing and more knowledgeable supporters turn on the management or directors you have to give it credence.

I would not have chosen Sam as my first choice for manager if we were in a position where there was a queue of very able candidates, but given the position we were in at the end of Ince's reign I don't believe we could have expected or got anybody any better. He was then (and still is as things are) the best we could even hope for, and he did save us last year, and I believe he will do it this year too......providing he does not lose the dressing room. That is indeed the whole crux of the matter at present; but it is also the very reason why we the fans must stay solidly behind the players, manager and the club. If we don't the whole thing is going to come crashing down around us and we will go down for a very long time indeed.

Sadly Benni's antics now are not a surprise for someone who started to beleive his own hype after the Chelsea interest and who's ego has prevented him rejoining planet earth since. He threw his toys out the pram when we wouldnt let him leave and this is the culmination of 18 months worth of half hearted, self centered, sulking apathy towards a club that gave him his chance in the Premiership.

Get shut and I hope that any cash he has earnt in the game is enough to console him from the fact that his ego and lack of intelligence and motivation stopped him achieving his potential. Another player who could have done a hell of alot more but for the fact he has nowt between the ears.

I dont blame Sam for this as Benni hasnt tried at all for over a year and when Sam arrived he told him to get fit and he will start - even we can see from the stands the amount of timber he has put on - he didnt and rather than accept responsibility he blames the management!

Couldn't agree more Fife. As you say, this is a time for people to rally around the club. We've seen really hard times before at Ewood Park and compared to those days we are now in a pretty good situation. Like you, I believe that we have a manager who will keep us in the Premier League come the end of the season.

I would rot him for a month, then he will realize his WC dream is going out of the window and come crawling back.

Enough with player power.

The board need to make an example out of him but wont let us buy anyone unless we sell him or someone.

This is not the first time McCarthy has used these same tactics to get his own way. He did EXACTLY the same with Porto and they did indeed call his bluff and left him rotting with no games for any of their teams as long as he refused to train. I don't know if they actually refused to pay him as well but they would have every right to do so as he had broken his contract. Then along came Mark Hughes and offered him and Porto a way out. Look how the ungrateful greedy fat wretch has repaid us.

Some people are way to gullible to believe that even a lick of what is said in the papers is true. It's a ploy to unnerve our top players, it has been used endless of times before and it has worked.

The media have always hated us, it's a fact of life.

God I hate it when fans say things like this, that somehow we're the victims. Its rubbish. Every fan thinks that the media hates them, every fan thinks that the media is somehow biased towards every other club in the division. Please can people stop screaming about bias in the media every time a negative story comes out about Rovers. They do it to everyone, you just dont realise when someone writes about Wigan's best players or Fulham's best players leaving for better/bigger teams. Its not bias, its just how you personally are percieving it.

A ploy to unnerve our top players? what?? about them moving to West Ham????? We all know what McCarthy has said and done before, and although you must always take it with a pinch of salt its hardly unsurprising to hear what he may have said over the past few days.

I doubt Reading are picking up 100% of the wage.

I wasnt sure on that either. Either way 50% wouldnt be bad. Thats Zurab, Haworth, Marshall & Van Herden all gone out

i love how you know how you know what all the players earn .its sweet.

Reality check for you Abbzzzz - Gally earned 20k, A Faye (Stoke) earns 50k a week....can you really see Zurab earning less than Gally? FFS I was on holiday last summer with a United Reserve team player and he was on £5k a week at his young age!

Just a question....in reality what do you believe Zurab earns?
