DavidMailsTightPerm
Diouf- good six months, went off the boil, fallen out with Sam Where is it reported fallen out with Sam - defo agree of the boil Givet- good six months, now wobbly Very harsh on Givet - though not as good as last season - still been ok in a struggling team Chimbonda- good one but where exactly should he be played Gotta disagree - not certain how good he actually is. If in the mood can be excellent - but when not in mood poor and prone to playing players onside Nzonzi- great spot but the lad is being overstretched Agree - ideally would be rested. The future of our midfield Salgado- horrible back drop to him arriving then he doesn't play him Not certain about Salgado - looks class on the ball but too slow. Surprised he hasn't been tried in defensive midfield as many people thought he would be. Kalinic- mis-used so far Disagree - other than possibly teh Sunderland match - has been gradually introduced - it is obvious the strength and fitness he now has that was lacking at the beginning. Di Santo- I like this lad but the system exploits him and doesn't work for him I actually like him - but the manager can't be blamed for him missing chances Van Heerden- in Turkey Looks all ifs and buts to me Can't remember some Arab coming in with millions so Sam can pick and choose players. So far he hasn't wasted any money (at the moment Kallinic looks like he will come good)- which in our position is key. In Nzonzi he has a player with potential to raise significant transfer funds in the future - and Kalinic is a very good prospect to do the same (though early days)

Wing Wizard Windy Miller
Just hope somebody has been filling nicko with bull regarding Beattie. If Allardyce is looking at three 30 plussers to take us forward then for me Allardyce simply has to go and quickly to. Basturk on a pay as you play deal would be worth the punt and possibly Gudjonsen on loan.
magicalmortensleftpeg
Diouf- good six months, went off the boil, fallen out with Sam Did well enough when he was needed 12 months ago Givet- good six months, now wobbly Id still say he's a decent signing Chimbonda- good one but where exactly should he be played Good signing, as good as we could have hoped for Nzonzi- great spot but the lad is being overstretched Agree with overstretched, but still a good signing Salgado- horrible back drop to him arriving then he doesn't play him He was brought in as cover and thats what he has provided Kalinic- mis-used so far But clearly is a decent player. Sam said from the beginning that he needed time. He looked terribly off the pace against Sunderland but now looks like he could make it Di Santo- I like this lad but the system exploits him and doesn't work for him Done ok, I think we hoped for a bit better, but he's shown in flashes that if could get some confidence he'd be some player, so again not a bad signing Van Heerden- in Turkey A freebie so no loss, worth the risk Looks all ifs and buts to me I think he's bought well with the exception of Van Heerden. Whether they've been played enough is a different issue, but i dont think we can doubt that the vast majority have been good enough.

Steve Moss
Owen has landed a Slovakian World Cup winger and a young American World Cup midfielder...with another World Cup hopeful to come. It's called 'planning.' Stuart Holden was a missed boat, if you ask me. If he really is signing the dotted line for 5k/week I'd scream. The Rovers would have done VERY well to get him for 10k. The boy is class, hardworking and a 100% loyal for the term of his contract. Just hope somebody has been filling nicko with bull regarding Beattie. If Allardyce is looking at three 30 plussers to take us forward then for me Allardyce simply has to go and quickly to. If Sam is looking to 30+, then I'm afraid its the wrong direction. He needs to be building for the future, not living in the past.
Brfcrule1
Nicko can yo let us know is Basturk really flying in for talks on tuesday is that mail story right or wishful thinking? Also am hoping it's eidur but have they decided who they are going to go for Beattie or Gudjohnsen no disrespect to Beattie but Eidur like RVN would represent a good signing and would definitely sell loads more shirts than Beattieand would be good for the younger players to develop e.g. DiSanto,Hoilett & Kalinic by the way did Gudjohnsen ever have a nickname when he was at chelsea I can't seem to think of it when he was last in england thanks
Steve Moss
We've allegedly offered Gudjohnsen a 6 month loan with us paying 1/2 of his 80,000/week wages. http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Transfer-news-Blackburn-Rovers-move-in-for-Gudjohnsen-article300703.html
magicalmortensleftpeg
I think Gudjohnsen and Basturk in for Benni would be very good. I think its about as good as we could have realisically expected from this window.
Steve Moss
I think Gudjohnsen and Basturk in for Benni would be very good. I think its about as good as we could have realisically expected from this window. I think we'd have to move more than just Benni to get Gudjohnsen and Basturk. IIRC, one of Nicko's articles claimed Benni was on 35k/week. His most recent Gudjohnsen article alleges he's own 80k/week and we're offering to pay 1/2. Essentially, a Benni for Gudjohnsen swap leaves us 5k/week on the hole, if Monaco accepts our offer. We'd still have to dig up money for Basturk, which probably means moving MGP, Grella, Roberts or Andrews, based on the current new stories. Or maybe not if Basturk is a loan on a pay as you play deal. http://www.football.co.uk/blackburn_rovers/turkey_playmaker_yildiray_basturk_lining_up_loan_deal_with_blackburn_rovers_rss316023.shtml But, I'd prefer Ibricic over both Gudjohnsen and Basturk. He's played with Kalinic before, he seems talented, and he's young enough that we could expect a few years of good service before he flies away to another club (though I dream of the day the Rovers can keep a solid squad together for a decade). Ewood and I Would
Owen has landed a Slovakian World Cup winger and a young American World Cup midfielder...with another World Cup hopeful to come. It's called 'planning.' Is the inference there that players who go to the World Cup are World Class? Aaron Mokoena's going too, maybe Corley should try and bag himself a World Cup captain! Pinch
"Stoke striker James Beattie remains on Rovers' wish list, but signing him and keeping him for the next couple of seasons would be a strain on the club's tight budget." ~Nicko What sort of wages is Beattie on? Eddie
Beattie just seems like a signing for the sake of it. If we intend to play one up front then I don't see why we really need to replace Benni at the moment if there are no good options available. If we intend to play one up front then I don't see why we really need to replace Benni at the moment if there are no good options available. Think I agree with you there. I would rather bolster the shocking midfield and we will be shooting ourselves in the foot signing Beattie as he will want at least a 2.5 year contract... If Sam signs young lads for the future he gets slated because we need an experienced player to walk straight into the 1st team, if he's looking to sign a 30+ experienced player to walk into and strengthen our 1st team he gets slated for not building for the future. Guest guillaume
Nicko you are paranoid! I agree that weiss and holden, well perhaps not the latter will perhaps be ok fusture players for a team like bolton. What about ibricic you were all over it and now nothing. Saving something? Word is ed is twlling monaco team mates he is set for the prem.
alexanders
Bah if we sign Beattie. Why is he still the top target? He is old too. I hope we stay put and get what we want for Benni McD. If the rumours are true he is acting like a plank. Bring me Ibricic and maybe a loan Gud (though too much wages) and Basturk and I'll be more than happy. Not many good signings being done in the January transfer window anyway.
Mr. E
Gudjonhnsen would be a good signing - if he wasn't so slow. To put in perspective, he looked to slow for La Liga, where Salgado was in his natural environment. Just so people have this in mind.
S15
The world is so black and white to you isn't it Mr E? Just relax, be excited by the fact we are signing one of the Premier Leagues best ever imports, who is younger than the fat waster who has taken it upon himself to go on strike. It's a loan FFS. I think it's great business, as replacing McCarthy won't be too hard, and the worst that can happen is we send him back to France in May.
JAL
"Stoke striker James Beattie remains on Rovers' wish list, but signing him and keeping him for the next couple of seasons would be a strain on the club's tight budget." ~Nicko What sort of wages is Beattie on? When he was at Everton and Sheff United they were reported then to be in the region of 30- 40k per week. The club will be trying to keep the lid on this side of the issue, never mind not being good enough either Pinch.
JAL
When Nicko uses the term 'planning' it seems like one big huge dig at our club. Are Rovers like Fawlty Towers management just fire fighting all the time, with no integrated short to mid and long term plans.
thenodrog
He jumped on the band-wagon when our bad run was at its worst. Nope..... as usual he was busy pulling his face when the wing changed and it stuck there. Just as it did with Ince.
