[Archived] Sam's January Targets

Recommended Posts

When Nicko uses the term 'planning' it seems like one big huge dig at our club.

Are Rovers like Fawlty Towers management just fire fighting all the time, with no integrated short to mid and long term plans.

If you read it without a Burkha on, you'd have clearly seen it was a dig at every club, and in all honesty probably said to intentionally catch some fish.

Coyle has been lucky, as others will be. I mean how could Coyle have planned too far ahead, he thought he'd be at Burnley in January didn't he Nicko?

I would much prefer loaning Gudjohnsen and forgetting about Beattie. He would create chances for other players, knows the league and has never relied on pace. We also won't be locked into a contract with him like we would be with Beattie.

If we sell Benni and Roberts and bring Gudjohnsen in on loan, our wage bill will be significantly lower by the time summer comes.

Owen has landed a Slovakian World Cup winger and a young American World Cup midfielder...with another World Cup hopeful to come.

It's called 'planning.'

Eh? It's called 'blackmail'. "Listen Phil......... Flood and Kilby are squirrelling their money away so Burnley can only go one way so if you really want me to sign to manage Notlob then I'll put pen to paper BUT ONLY if you allocate X million to spend on these player targets, otherwise I'm staying right where I am."

Obvious to a blind man on a galloping horse as they say over there.

For some strange reason I find myself completely unable to get excited about who Bolton sign.

Could it be because I am a Blackburn Rovers Supporter?

No it's cos no ones ever heard of em.

Vladimir Weiss looks pretty special though. Wouldn't have minded us going for him...

We've allegedly offered Gudjohnsen a 6 month loan with us paying 1/2 of his 80,000/week wages.

http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Transfer-news-Blackburn-Rovers-move-in-for-Gudjohnsen-article300703.html

Should offer the same period to Beattie too. Less money than Gudjonnson of course but big money for him and it would seriously test his resolve and provide incentive imo. If he gets a better offer elsewhere then Que Sera Sera. From his performances and recent moves a two year deal is too long. Problem is Stoke will demand too high a fee for us to do that, but if however Pullis stamps his feet for em to get shut then OK.

Otherwise leave alone imo.

To be honest - If I had a choice I wouldnt want either Gudjohsen or Beattie....

Who do you see as realistic targets then Hughesy? We don't have as much a choice as we would like as we can't break the bank and we can only sign players who are available. I think both would be very good additions to the squad.

Daily Mail

"Stuttgart's Turkey international Yildiray Basturk is flying in for talks with Blackburn on Tuesday.

Sportsmail revealed Rovers' interest last week and the attacking midfielder will discuss a loan transfer until the end of the season with a pay as you play deal.

Basturk is believed to have taken advice from former Blackburn star Tugay and the club will be hoping the 31-year-old has a similar impact to his compatriot."

I'm not sure how reliable the Daily Mail is (I'm sure Nicko has a better idea!) but that sounds a great move to me.

One or two points that may need clearing up.

BEATTIE...will want a two-and-a-half year deal...he is on around £30,000-a-week.

GUDJOHNSEN...will come down to how much Rovers or anyone else are prepared to chip into his wages for a short-term loan.

IBRICIC...has come back on the radar, but that is only a possible if MGP leaves in the window.

BASTURK...a bit of a surprise if it comes off...talented player in his time...doesn't quite fit with scrapping Meriem deal and then chasing up-and-coming players.

'PLANNING'...going for players you want and getting them...two so far and one more to come [at least].

Wouldn't call it planning, fella, I'd call it backing.

Just go Gamst!

Nicko, do the club see it as Beattie or Gudjohnsen or Beattie and Gudjohnsen, providing Benni goes?

Posted this on the Big Mac thread but:

I can't help but think Eiders best days are behind him, hardly setting the French league on fire.

Also the weight of expectation on his shoulders, should he come here, almost sets the lad up to fail.

Not sure what alternatives we have, but Eider isn't the man for Ewood for me.

To be fair, it's not that difficult when your targets are an out of work second-rate American, and a young Man City reserve.

Good speech LeChuck, my thought's exactly but more importantly those are near enough the works that came from my Notlob colleague this morning. Not very exciting signings at all, in fact Holden could be the next Andrews! Word has it that Weiss is not happy at all in England and likes to party a little too much, City seem to have just farmed out one of their problems for Notlob to worry about.

I do have reservations on this one but I have to be honest that I've not seen him since his Barcelona days.

In saying that however I'd imagine that he will be signed to play in the 'hole', which Dunn and most recently Benni have been playing. Eidur obviously hasn't got the pace to play as the last man and that's not really his game, so if he can come in and provide for others and grab a few goals himself then I think it will be a worthwhile signing.

Big wages though. Because of this if we can replace Benni's wage with 50% of Eidurs on a 6 month loan and a pay as you play for Basturk then that wouldn't be bad dealings IMO.

Gudjohnsen, Basturk, Ibricic in. MGP, Benni, Roberts, Andrews or Grella out would suit me. Seems like pie in the sky at the moment though. Also we need to get Hoilett to sign a contract by hook or by crook.

I would assume we would play Ibricic either up front or on the right as clearly Olsson is going to dominate the left imo. To my mind he looks the best youngster we have had coming through since Dunn and Duff.

Bottom line is how do we get the right amount of youngsters in to suit the rules next year? None of the three mentioned incomings will qualify, and we could lose one or two if Roberts or Andrews go.

It's an 'either or' with Beattie and Gudjohnsen. There is no way you want to take on both of them - and their wages.

By the sounds of it West Ham are sniffing round Gudjohnsen and talking about giving Monaco a bigger contribution towards the loan.

However I never totally believe anything I hear from the Hammers camp's new leaders.

You're not alone!

I can see them leading Benni, (and Rovers), down the garden path by dragging this out as long as possible before switching their attention to another target, (probably the Icelander) and leaving us without or number one strike target and also an unsettled player who doesn't want to be at the club.

Eider eh? Well given the quality of strikers he's got to get past at Monaco I'm not convinced.

Basturk, well pretty much the same hasn't been hitting the heights he used to since he fell out with Terim. Has barely played all season and will need time to get up and running especially with the big difference in the pace of the game here.

Guess we'll have to wait and see, but at present I can't help but think they'll turn out to be as useful as Salgado.

I wouldn't be surprised if Gold and Sullivan still had a chip on their shoulder about Rovers over Savagegate and all the "Big Club" comments. Gold's reaction in particular was stunning for a) an adult and b ) a Premiership Chairman. He was really hurting from the interview I saw.

The cynic in me says they are looking at a side who could easily get dragged back into their relegation scrap and are trying to cause problems.

Unsettling one of our players then switching from him as their main target to one of our own targets (Gudjohnsen)...hmmm, with anyone else in the Premiership I would think I am being paranoid but with these cowboys who knows?

Agreed Nicko, though if they were willing to give RVN 100k a week, then I'm sure they'd be willing to pay more of Eidurs wages than Rovers. I'd also say he'd prefer a move back to London than Lancashire.

Still, there's always hope that the Sam factor could swing it in our favour.
