Its highly unlikely that Beattie will want to come back to Rovers after what happened last time. I know for a fact that bridges would have to be built for a "Rovers Return" Also, James is favouring a move back to everton on loan. Fulham deal is very unlikely.

Agreed Nicko, though if they were willing to give RVN 100k a week, then I'm sure they'd be willing to pay more of Eidurs wages than Rovers. I'd also say he'd prefer a move back to London than Lancashire.

Still, there's always hope that the Sam factor could swing it in our favour.

The Ruud 'offer' was very good, cheap publicity for the new regime. At the same time they were teeing up the Benni deal.

Slippery is the word.

In Gudjohnsen's case I hope Rovers have a figure they are willing to spend on a loan signing and stick to it...no point in getting in an auction there.

Bridges would have to be built??? It's 12 years ago since he left for Southampton and your talking about him joining the club he grew up supporting

Eider eh? Well given the quality of strikers he's got to get past at Monaco I'm not convinced.

Basturk, well pretty much the same hasn't been hitting the heights he used to since he fell out with Terim. Has barely played all season and will need time to get up and running especially with the big difference in the pace of the game here.

Guess we'll have to wait and see, but at present I can't help but think they'll turn out to be as useful as Salgado.

I can see what your saying about Gujohnsen. It is hard to see how he will be motivated to play well for us as he has done everything on the game, is on a massive contract, and will see Rovers as a huge, if neccessary, step down.

Basturk on the other hand has never had a crack at the prem, will be desperate to impress, and needs a new deal. I think he will be up for it, plus he has the example of Tugay to help him settle etc. I think this will work providing he steers clear of injuries. He will walk into the team at the moment, and give us some experience in the middle of the park which we need.

Apparantly Man United have signed Smalling for Fulham beating Arsenal to his signature

Man U get Smalling

What a find for Fulham, they're going to get about £8 million for doing a bit of lower league scouting!

Must admit I haven't seen him play once. I wonder if Man Utd are planning on getting rid of Vidic or Ferdinand in the summer?

Yeah I would be hoping the same. Is there a loan fee involved aswell Nicko or is it just a case of

paying for the majority of his wages ?

Skysports are now saying we've opened talks with Basturks reps. This one seems to be gathering

pace at last ! :tu:

Gudjohnsen is on a huge wage which will be tax free in Monaco...so it will come down to who gives Monaco the most money.

If it is too expensive then Beattie would be the favourite option - I would imagine.

Of course, it could all go horribly wrong and you get stuck with Benni.

Zenit to offer 5m Euros for Grella?!?

Another link on Grella

The Russian sports site football.ru claims that Zenit St Petersburg manager Luciano Spaletti has been in touch with Grella and is prepared to make an offer of around 5 million Euros to bring the 30 year-old to Russia.

Is this not considered tapping up?

Though I don't care when it's Grella and €5m !! :!:

To be fair it is just a traslation fo the earlier report.

If that was true it would be just about the greatest thing that could happen to us this window. However, despite the manager once working with Vince in Italy, it just seems ridiculous. We can live in hope though.

I wonder whether he's still up to it physhically? Hopefully if he comes it will be with a point to prove, but I'd be keen to know why Monaco's highest wage earner can't even get in a team that has declined rapidly.

Basturk, great player a couple of years ago but 1 sub appearance this year doesn't fill me with hope. I don't see him walking straight in though and with one sub appearance who knows how far he is from match fitness. But then again he's still probably in better shape than Dunn.

Hopefully if they come they perform for us. At the end of the day both are loans so if they flop at least we won't get stuck with them.

I'll share the driving with you GAV, we'll have to make sure we wrap Grella in cotton wool as he'll probably injure himself sat in the back-seat.

How can anyone justify €5m on Grella? I just can't see that one but we live in hope I suppose.

Sounds like it could start to get busy later on this week. Lets just hope we don't ship a few out and not manage to replace them, then we will be in the siht.
