Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo not Beattie he is no way near as good as Benni Mc. We need a player who can come in and score goals I think a player like Bedford is worth a punt just like we did with Jon Stead.

Beckfords much more high profile and will have bigger teams sniffing round him now. Stead was plucked out of obscurity.

If Gudjonsen is out of the picture now then I think the Benni replacement needs to Ibricic (sp) - he can play in the whole or out wide and has a decent goalscoring ratio. At 25 he should have resale if he does well and physically should be able to walk into the first team. Fee may be more than the Benni transfer but his wages would surely be alot less.

Signing Beattie brings little that Roberts or Di Santo can't offer. Vaughan at Everton would be a better shout for a target man than Beattie.

Alternatively I understand Robinho wants away on loan :o

Beattie just seems like a signing for the sake of it. If we intend to play one up front then I don't see why we really need to replace Benni at the moment if there are no good options available.

I agree. It´s not strikers we need but midfielders to create the chances for them.

Hope to see a pairing of Di Santo/Kalinic soon. Roberts coming on as an impact sub. Dunn or Hoilett can play up front if need be in emergencies.

Why do we need another striker if we aren´t going to create bugger all for them?

Are my eyes deceiving me?:blink:

No, you still have good sight.

You're a funny guy Mellison, this is a joke right?

No, I think 13 goals in just over half a seasonis a good return. He has Premiership experience and I have accounted for the jump in 'football standards' from fizzy pop to prem. Assuming his form continued (just league - 11 goals) he'd get 20 for this season. I'd reckon he'd get about half that in this league (even with less games). It's called opinion, remember? There are far worse options, like R Keef.

For some reason I'm blindly optimistic about Linganzi but not so excited at the prospect of Beattie and I can see those two being our only arrivals this month

This bit I agree with. Although, I do hold a little more hope for Beattie than you do. Linganzi (with having seen him at ALL) should be a good find hahaha ;)

I'm assuming that a fee agreed for Benni and Gudjohnsen reportedly off to West Ham too that we'll see Beattie paraded in front of home fans at the earliest opportunity.

Does anybody else think that Benni and Gudjohnsen would be too similar to play together - neither are particularly quick and both like to drop back in the "hole" between midfield and defence.

I can see the attraction of the Beattie signing, in that he has Prem league experience. He has done OK for stoke and is a safe option. Plus not many other strikers out there for a low fee who would come to us.

West Ham United expect to complete the signing of Eidur Gudjohnsen within the next 24 hours.

He will arrive along with Benni McCarthy, who is on the verge of finalising a £2.25million move from Blackburn Rovers.

And another thing is it doesnt really seem that Zola has picked any of these strikers, it seems to be the new owners doing all the talking that surely doesnt bode well.

So let me get this right. No deals are done over the weekend??? which means there are only 4 days left. Sam obviously doesnt rate Roberts, and he is still not wanting to rush Kalinic. Di Santo doesnt look like scoring to many goals. Im already feeling sick!

He only has two clubs sniffing after him right now. Barcodes who he turned down and the other one was Everton they were linked with him. I can't see him going to any of the so called top four. Therefore, unless Spuds and Villa show an interest on him we are as big as anyone else in the division.

I always really liked Darren Ambrose when he was at Ipswich and Newcastle, then seemed to lose his way a bit after that...seems back on form with Palace now though.

Still only 25, he does have plenty of Prem experience, and can play anywhere across midfield...he's the joint second top scorer in the Championship this season. I think he'd definitely be worth a punt if we could move someone like Andrews out.

Edit: The only other name that stood out to me was Sean Scannell...according to his Wiki we have tried to sign him in the past.

I think we could do far worse than a bid for Ambrose. Palace seemingly now have to accept any reasonable offer, and he seems to not be too injury prone- but then who would be compared to Dunny and Grella??

*IF* the cash can be found to put in an offer for Moses too we might just be able to convince him with the promise of first team football- though best not to mention the ball will fly over his head all the time...

Is it conceivable that Palace's administrators would accept a £3m double bid, which one would imagine is roughly what we'll get for Benni?

Finally, if this €5m for Grella comes true then hopefully we can invest the money on someone else, or just enough injury prone right backs turned midfielders to keep us with 11 fit players...

Most footballers would choose Everton over us. Also, the days are gone when we were next best after the big 4, Spurs and Villa in terms of attracting players. These days even the likes of Stoke have more money than us and at least as much pulling power. When we had European football, we had a much better hand to play.

The thing with Moses is, a LOT of clubs would like to take him, making their administration almost insignificant in terms of his price as they know someone will pay the top dollar for him.

But, with 5 days of transfer window left they may be keen to just get some money in ASAP. It's almost a case of 'if you don't ask you don't get'. Worth a punt anyway!

This I don't agree with my friend. I do appreciate that most footballers are motivated by money however , to the majority of footballers we are still a more atractive proposition than the likes of Stoke, Bolton and Hull.
