Ewood and I Would Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 We need to have 8 homegrown players in a squad of 25. At the moment we have Dunn, Robinson, Hoillett, Jones, Ollson(sp) and Brown. There are other that could be used from the youth team but probably not ready at the moment, loan players like Judge and Bunn would also come into the equation. Isn't Hoillett Canadian or can he claim a Greg Rudeski for us? Don't forget Roberts & Reid. Roberts is Grenadian and Reid is Irish (they tend to get a bit tetchy if you say they're British just for furture reference)

But it doesn't matter on their nationality, just that they were here for XX length of time (I forget the details) before the age of 20, and they count.
brian_gallagher85 Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Roberts is Grenadian and Reid is Irish (they tend to get a bit tetchy if you say they're British just for furture reference) Yes we do But I'm pretty sure that both would qualify as they where both born in England and have been at English clubs for their whole careers?

Ewood and I Would Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 He went through Brockhall. Ahh OK i just checked the failr complicated rule on what constitues a "home grown" player, silly me thought it would be simple like whether they were English. After seeing the rule though, I don't really get what the point is if you're nationality is irrelevent as I thought the point of it was to help the national team.
brian_gallagher85 Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Well we won't be signing Reo-Coker, he's out for 3 months with and ankle injury
Kelbo Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Well we won't be signing Reo-Coker, he's out for 3 months with and ankle injury Thank god for that!!

RoyRover Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 The way things are shaping up it looks like Grella, Andrews, Diouf, ROberts and Salgado all bring very little to the club. All must be serious candidates for sale. Plus Benni is gone and Pedersen could be on his way. We need, at a minimum, to bring in two strikers (probs one experienced, one younger), a very good winger, a very good central midfielder, and a left back over the next two windows. At least one of those players needs to be home grown. Revolving door time. It looks like Ibricic could be the winger, and Topal the CM (at least we can hope). Still amazed we have not been linked to any left backs (apart from Belhadj). Strikerwise it looks very sticky at the moment. Only strong link is with Beattie (who is very average). If Kalinic gets injured we will suddenly look extremely vulnerable. I think one of the strikers we bring in should be a young British guy, along with the left back if possible (Bale?). I was thinking the same thing about a left back. I don't feel that Olsson is the long term answer there, but see him being more of a left winger. Someone who I would be very interested in would be Armand Traore at Arsenal. He is second choice at the moment, but when Kieran Gibbs is back, Traore would be behind him and Gael Clichy. If Sam has a summer clear out, with the likes of Andrews, Diouf, Roberts, Salgado, Grella and Pedersen being let go, it would give us the room in the squad to bring in players. Names like Ibricic and Topal have been mentioned and I hope that they become a reality. There's no doubt that there is a huge amount of deadwood, which is a drain on the clubs finances. If they can be moved on, we could hope that, younger and / or more talented players could be bought in.

Is there a real chance that Benni could still be a Rovers player beyond January??
beerwins Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 I dont really understand the work permit thing, how is he able to play for us but cant play for Wet Spam if he hasnt got a permit?
joey_big_nose Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 I dont really understand the work permit thing, how is he able to play for us but cant play for Wet Spam if he hasnt got a permit? When you change employers you have to get a new work permit. I am a bit confused re: the wife thing. When did Benni get married? edit - found this. 2004 I am utterly speculating, but if he was married in 2004 to a Spanish woman, a fac that his UK work permit is tied to (as his marraige makes him eligable), but since they have lived apart and Benni has dated other women (which I am pretty sure he has), then he might be refused a new permit as the marriage is no loner seen as 'active' even if he hasn't formally divorced. Or something like that?
Hughesy Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 So the work permit thing is the delay? Thought due to his spanish missus it wouldnt be a problem? Nobody new being touted by Rovers? Nicko - tell your mate Coyle that we have a good striker available (Roberts) for just £5m, its a bargain and we wouldnt sell him if we didnt have to.
nicko Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Is there a real chance that Benni could still be a Rovers player beyond January?? If he didn't get a new work permit he would have to return...but everyone has their fingers crossed that he does...the smell of burnt bridges is hanging in the air...not to mention a huge fine.
BigJackWalker Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 There was a plzyer who was on the verge of signing last night young kid about 19 20 sothats one more playing we have got all we need now is beatie

Gambit217 Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 One or two small updates. BEATTIE...still no bid...curious...somebody else may step in...are those cheers I hear? I've read reports saying Pulis is only willing to let Beattie go for ' footballing reasons ' so it could be a case of them trying to act as if they're not desperate to get shot of him so as to keep his price up. Also pretty probable that they're not going to let him go til they have a replacement lined up, which is what we were supposed to be doing with Benni earlier in the week !? It's a proper merry-go-round is this window !
Cocker Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 It's a proper merry-go-round is this window ! I think it will just be another funny day waiting for stroke boy to get all his phones out on the desk again only for nothing to happen.

rovgers Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Is Reid actually Irish or is he Irish in a Tony Cascarino, Ray Houghton, Mick McCarthy, Jason Mcateer, Andy Townsend, John Aldridge stylie? Reid was born in London, Kingston to be exact. One of his parents were Irish. Interesting that he represented England at under 16 level.

LeChuck Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 He's one of those fake Irish, he's a London boy with Irish grandparents.
