Some harsh words on here about Beattie......at the end of the day he will score goals for us.....something our other strikers are failing to do!

I think a "Beattie Type" player will really bring the best out of Kalanic as he takes the battering, wins the headers and so on whilst Nicko is left in space to score the goals we all know he can.

If Chopra is worth £5m then Beattie is a bargain.

I hope he signs! Am i on my own?

You are on your own lol. Beattie would give us something but not the goals that we need. However, as we don't have any money to spend it will be an average striker like Beattie that we will end up with.

Well I would rather have Beattie than Benjani but I would rather sign a true left back or a midfield workhorse than either of them.

I was thinking the same thing about a left back. I don't feel that Olsson is the long term answer there, but see him being more of a left winger. Someone who I would be very interested in would be Armand Traore at Arsenal. He is second choice at the moment, but when Kieran Gibbs is back, Traore would be behind him and Gael Clichy.

Arsenal now, more than ever, have a youth and reserve team we really ought to be watching weekly. They are full of young quality, and although most of them are foreigners, Wenger brings them in so young that nearly all of them qualify under the new homegrown rules. Further, he brings in so many that most of them will never make it to their first team on a regular basis, even though they're often very good. In theory, this will make many of them; good, available, homegrown, and at reasonable prices. Most good young players who qualify, especially those who are actually English, cost a bomb, especially in this new homegrown climate.

I would personally prefer that we sign a striker who will score goals before the day is over. Preferably during the matches, if at all possible.

I wouldnt mind Beattie if it ment we would play with two strikers. If he comes and fights for one plays therefore less time for Kalinic on the pitch then, thanks, but no thanks.

3,5 mill is far to much anyways.

Benjani & Beattie average footballers I wouldn't have either one of them both are past it. Now that Kalinic is up and running why don't we leave it until the summer window when we will have a bigger budget and more time to find a quality striker.

That's an enormous if though, isn't it? Chopra isn't worth £5m, I think everybody knows that. You can look at it another way- if N'zonzi is worth 500k, then Beattie is like being robbed and sodomised by Mr. T.

I find it a bit puzzling that we've not been linked with any of Palace's young stars, I know that a few clubs are meant to be tracking moses but we could sneak in with abid for him and Clyne, who is a left back. with the administrators at work there a feel a bargain could be had!

I heard that the Beattie deal is £2m upfront, rising to £3.5m with clauses. Sounds and awful lot for a 31-year-old journeyman to me .....

we're looking to get £2m for a lazy, arrogant, fat, childish Big Mac so £2m for Beattie seems pretty fair to me.

Rising to £3.5m with clauses (all this info even though we are not actually in negotiation with Stoke) mean what, if we reached Europe within a couple of season we give them an extra £500k, win a cup we give them another £500k, he scores so many goals we give them.... appearances we give them... It's in most contracts. Not a bad deal for somebody who gives a sh!t about the club.

Because he will get injured at some point then we will be left with Roberts and Di Santo. I would hope we can unearth someone better than Beattie though.

I'd put Chopra in the same bracket as Roberts. Not good enough for the prem but very good in the championship! No way was he worth £5M and Roy Keane was a fool to buy him (although I wouldn't tell him to his face)!

What if he breaks his leg against West Ham? Roberts and Di Santo up front for the rest of the season? Hello Relegation!

Sorry I missed your post and copied it almost exactly!

We are now on 27 points another 3 wins along with a couple of draws and we should be ok. It is possible that he may get injured and we would be down to Roberts & Di Santo as our only recognised forwards. However we could sign Beattie and he might end up getting injured. Last season when we were really desperate we played big Samba upfront. My point is that with the squad that we have we are capable of getting the points that we need to stay up this season. I would love it if we could get a quality striker in now who would score the goals to push us towards a possible European qualification. The likes of Beattie aren't just good enough for us. It reminds you of the days when we had the likes of Nathan Blake and Ashley Ward.

If he didn't get a new work permit he would have to return...but everyone has their fingers crossed that he does...the smell of burnt bridges is hanging in the air...not to mention a huge fine.

Wouldn't structuring it as a loan with a summer sell date get around the work permit issues? I think I've read that option was being discussed in the Mirror recently.

It's still got to get past the work permit people or the 'permission to work' people as they are now called. Could do with them moving faster for everyone's sake.

Blackburn could yet come in to the picture for Lewandowski as they search for goals

At the end of the Lewandowski article, they mention yourselves.

FM legend, used to play both Kalinic and Lewandowski together

He would fit the profile Nicko mentioned, about the board releasing more funds if the player was young with a lot of potential and the possibility of a future profit.

Not doubting your contacts and info Nicko, but don't you think that Rovers would be attempting to drag this out for another day or so, so that the fat one won't be able to line up against us on Saturday?

It's with the government officials now. They will dictate the time scale of the permit. There could be a separate arrangement stopping him from playing, but Rovers want this concluded so they can spend the money elsewhere...or give it to the bank.

BY THE WAY IT IS LIKELY TO BE ONE ALMIGHTY 11 O'CLOCKER TONIGHT.
