reality bites for the masses on here, what better were you expecting? dinedane i`d be happy with, beattie mortified by and so would all you be after roughly 10 games(beattie`s usual honeymoon spell length).

Indeed, I was too. But to criticise someone before they play FOR US is a bit silly imo. As I said, players play differently for different clubs.

Maybe we should sign Wes Brown and play him up front. I mean, if players play differently for different clubs..

Nicko, is there no chance of Pedersen signing a new contract with us? Also, Dindane, no thanks, if he can't do it at Portsmouth what makes us think he can do it here?

Not exactly true. A few of our better players have been distinctly average for other clubs before we got them - Cruz, Chimbonda and Bentley are three examples. It's a judgement call on whether we can get more out of him.

I watched a large number of Lens games when Dindane was there and I was equally unimpressed.

Then maybe he'll come good HERE. You can NEVER tell how they'd fare imo. I'll agree it ain't exactly inspiring, but I'd prefer him coming to nobody in for Benni at all. It's another option for us. Experience to complement youth.

There have been about five or six clubs trying for Dindane which says a lot about what is out there. He is ok as a loan and he has something to play for - the World Cup.

If Beattie comes instead it's not the end of the world either.

On another note there must be 12 or 13 Premier League clubs trying to sign a striker at the last minute.

Don't despair, it could be worse.

Fortunately this is the poorest bottom half or so in the Premier in living memory.

You will live to fight another day.

By the way, if Julie Walters does not get an award for that performance then the game is bent...

Dindane!

I seriously hope your contacts/info is wrong on this Nicko, I'd rather spend the money on a midfielder or winger and take the risk of finishing the season with just Roberts, Kalinic and Di Santo as our forward options. The guy is crap.

I wasn't really a criticism more a query. What I was saying was that when we need goals can we rely on him? I don't know but I hope he proves me wrong, then I will eat humble pie.

NICKO, thanks for everything again this month, hopefully you'll stay on here and will be very busy tomorrow n a good way.

P.S. Have Rovers offered Pedersen a new contract?

50 goals in 132 games for Anderlecht, 27 in 102 for Lens, 16 in 54 for his country.

Is he terrible? No. It's just disappointing that the only striker we can think of to be our main goalscorer hasn't cracked 1 in 3 for over five years.

Am I missing something here?

Nicko, you say rival bids for Beattie....does that mean we have bid, or some other prem club?

If it has been mentioned before, then I apologise.

There are other teams in for Beattie who may make an offer.

I think Dindanes record at pompey is something like four goals in ten games. I think we have to take into consideration the players he has been playing with, the situation at pompey. With better players, better service then I think he is good for a loan signing. But for Roberts and not a Bennie replacement. Do you think there would still be money available for a permanent signing? I don't know the wage for Dindane, but cannot be as much as Bennie. Rovers also got a fee for Bennie, so there should be some more in the pot - but maybe not for a striker - but a decent midfielder who can cross a ball.

if beattie comes in, it couldn`t be ANY worse imo. inmates taking over asylum springs to mind..

Bloody Dindane, he's not good!! Only scored in 2 games this season. And would be moving into a team that creates probably about the same amount of chances as Pompey.

Is that the mystery striker??

Maybe the julie walters / bent....is Nicko code for JW gives green light for Bent..we can hope can we not.

playing in a team of reserves - any striker needs support from other players. Needs good players to help - do pompey have any left?????????

Yes, but that is what I'm trying to say. We aren't exactly a team full of brilliant players in midfield who are creating chance after chance, are we?

I just don't think he's any good is all. If he does come and he turns out to be ace, then all is good. But I can't see it.

Just saying it could be worse

after beattie gets bored of trying(as i say after about 10 games) fowler will suddenly seem not that bad. at least he was good with the ball, beattie has the same non-mobilty but couldn`t trap a dead rat. i can see where sam feels he can work on him as he has a similar physiche to kevin davies but he lacks the one crucial thing that davies has, an attitude to be effective consistantly. if david moyes couldn`t inspire him at a time when he had a chance of going to a world cup i don`t see how sam can now he`s a much older 32 yrs old. it smacks of a last pay day for him with the bonus it brings him back home too.

I saw a Merc 4 x 4 in Blackburn today that had a liscence very similar to Reo Coker, then I remembered he was out injured so it was a non starter.

I hope we are holding an ace card close to our chest as Dindane isnt too exciting however it would surely be too late to bring in anyone from abroad now
