[Archived] Sam's January Targets

Recommended Posts

Yes, but that is what I'm trying to say. We aren't exactly a team full of brilliant players in midfield who are creating chance after chance, are we?

I just don't think he's any good is all. If he does come and he turns out to be ace, then all is good. But I can't see it.

Have you seen utube clips of dindane - (yes I know you cannot use utube alone) But 4 in 10 games is better than di santo. Maybe Sam thinks he can get more out of Dindane, especailly as a big target man. He has helped dunn imo

Well what do you expect when we've no money and when we had a chance to earn some much needed revenue as in the Carling Cup semi final 10,000 fans chose to boycott the game which is £50,000 down the drain after splitting the gate money 3 ways and with a full ground and great atmosphere which could have spurred onto a Wembley final meaning more money and a hell of a lot more imo. I'm not saying we could have bought big of course not but with that revenue maybe just maybe the trustees might have been more forthcoming to help out as well. All hypothetical i know but could well have been reality.

Sadly for most fans they didn't get what they wanted as a stirring 2nd leg performace and now being 8 points clear of the relegation zone means Big Sam's jobs safe but hasn't got the big money to spend. Stop the whinging support the team and those 11 players regardless who it is out there we are 10th in the Premier League just knocked out of a cup semi final and people still criticise. Remember no fans equals no money. No money means less chance of decent signings. Our fnancial support might only be pittance in the real world but still keeps the club running so stop whinging about who we should or shouldn't sign and be grateful that the club is not in Portsmouth's position after throwing money away like it was a game of monopoly.

Rant over ps A 0-0 draw at West Ham yesterday was a fantastic result too regardless of what people think!!

Agreed. Seeing as we had lost the previous 10 visits there in a row! We even lost there the season we won the premiership!

I saw a Merc 4 x 4 in Blackburn today that had a liscence very similar to Reo Coker, then I remembered he was out injured so it was a non starter.

I hope we are holding an ace card close to our chest as Dindane isnt too exciting however it would surely be too late to bring in anyone from abroad now

I must admit, I'd prefer Obafemi Martins, but probable outside Rovers means.

Good post - should call it reality check. I am happy where Rovers are at the moment, even if we are hoping other teams results who have games in hand go in Rovers favour.

I know i like 4000 others had to endure a very poor performance but i was also there on the night we last won there. I think our record there is about the same as it is visiting Portman Road how many times in the 90s did we concede late on and when we did finally beat them there the away end was in a state of shock as everyone was saying we never win at Ipswich i think it was the 1st time in about 85 years. I suppose i now realise what our carrot friends are enduring having not beaten us for so long!!

What did Dindane do wrong at Pompey?? 13 games, 5 goals......

He scored a hat-trick and one vs the Dingles.........fair play!

BUT did you see the sitters he missed in the games? jeeez they were horrible!

Brum agreed a 4M deal for Dindane..............Hes 29 we wont be making that money back!

With our style of play (lets just say direct) a small quick striker is not what we need!

Beattie on the other hand is a handful and would fit in to the "direct style"

Then maybe he'll come good HERE. You can NEVER tell how they'd fare imo. I'll agree it ain't exactly inspiring, but I'd prefer him coming to nobody in for Benni at all. It's another option for us.

Keep clutching at those straws! ;)

Profile

5 goals in 14 games. Basically 1 in 3.

The only plus side I see is that with it only being a loan we can see for ourselves how poor he is before sending him back.

Beattie may have a similar goal ratio but I would have total confidence in him taking chances, I wouldn't with Dindane.

I just hope Sam is trying to see us through to the summer where we will get better value for money. Shame the board can't find the pennies to bid for Robbie Keane, still only 29, undervalued player at most of the clubs he has been to.

Scored 3 goals

Well he is an option to bring on in games if we start with the one up front and go behind, a bit of pace never hurt anyone and always asks questions especially when partnered with a striker that can put the ball in the net (Kalinic hopefully).

He is certainly going to want to show us he can play as he can earn a weekly wage here which in no means is a bad thing for the remainder of the season and I think he will do well, we are short of pace we are short of creativity this guy although a bit unorthadox can add a bit of both and inject him on as a sub he could spring a game back to life (which in some cases we have needed as we dont have much plan b.

Did I want better ? yes. Did I expect better No.

This season seems to be the season where no-one is willing to risk it on outside of the prem players and its followed suit from club to club.

If he signs get behind him and boost his confidence, he could be the difference between 1 point and 3.

Dindane scored 3 of his 4 goals in one game, and in all the other games i have seen him in he has missed a shocking amount of clear cut chances. You can quote as many stats as you like but Dindane cannot be viewed as a good enough player, although id obviously like to be proven wrong if he does sign for us.

If we can get rid of Roberts then id consider tomorrow a good day regardless of what else happens. The fact that he will not be able to block someone like Kalinic playing is enough of a positive to override our lack of transfer activity. Getting Dindane as a replacement wouldnt be the end of the world but it would hardly be an improvement.

`Beattie may have a similar goal ratio but I would have total confidence in him taking chances, I wouldn't with Dindane`

that is a totally screwed up logic you`ve got there. same strike rate but you believe beattie will take more chances? err why?

i look at what each player can bring to the team in terms of what isn`t already there..

beattie brings - nuisance value through his physiche, but has very little mobility. would rely heavily on others to do his running for him. roberts and di santo can do everything that beattie can, bringing in beattie makes slower an already slow team.

dindane brings - lightning pace, mobilty and creativity as a result, the one thing most of our fans have acknowledged we lack on the break against teams.

conclusion - dindane is what rovers need most of the two. beattie would only possibly be needed if roberts leaves.

Spot on really, I think we are looking at what brings most when coming off the bench a 3 mill Beattie signing, who is a target man very much like the combination of Franco and Roberts with a no chance of a sell on fee and high wages or Dindane who could bring a bit of creativity and pace to add a bit of something to the team when we need it, only costs a loan fee and we are'nt stuck with him.

Granted he isnt the worlds best striker (if we signed the best striker in the world he would end up @#/?) and like Mellison said whatever he achieved at pompey is a different ball game to rovers give the guy a chance and he might just prove our first thoughts wrong.

If only we had loaned Andrews and Grella eh.

I would like Didane, to me he is a Djbril Cisse without the attitude. He has never been prolific, but as has been previously noted the guy is extremely fast and would provide something we haven't had for a long time up front. Even if it just to add another dimension

I think right now, I would prefer Dindane over Beattie. Dindane on loan would be better, than having to pay say 2 or 3 mill for Beattie. If Dindane is a failure, then we send him back… If Beattie is a failure, then we lose money which we cannot afford to do.

next season, Sam can sort out the deadwood like Andrews, Roberts, perhaps even Grella and try and get in some new players

The Lancashire Telegraph report that Rovers are looking to bring in a striker, with Dindane and Beattie the leading candidates. They also report that if a suitable deal cannot be reached then Sam is happy to go with what he has.
