The Lancashire Telegraph report that Rovers are looking to bring in a striker, with Dindane and Beattie the leading candidates. They also report that if a suitable deal cannot be reached then Sam is happy to go with what he has.

If we did end up having to go with what we have, and that is more than likely, then it could work out in favour for Kalinic. I want to see him as first choice striker and with the strikers we have first choice is a must!

I'm aware the Beattie debate has been going on for some time, but surely in the same position on Saturday Beattie would have put that one away?

I know a lot are not too keen on the possible signing of Beattie but we are in an unfortunate position that we can only pick from fringe players for minimal fee's and I'd rather have a local lad with feelings for our club and who will play with his heart on his sleeve than some Jonny foreigner who may not settle in the North West.

This season Big Mac gave us 1 league goal from 14 appearances (o.k 7 were as sub), If Beattie gave us 2 goals from now to the end of the season he'd be an improvement!

There is no consistency at the club. Allardyce was yesterday quoted as trying to get a player in "not necessarily a forward". Now it's a striker or nothing. The club will need alot of cash to sort out the forward line come summer.

As nicko said though, there's a lot of difference between what managers say and what actually happens at this stage. You don't want to lose face by saying you're definitely getting someone and then it doesn't work out. You don't want to alert others to your targets. You sometimes need a smokescreen. Or we could genuinely not be going to sign anyone else which is by far the most likely scenario

Sky Sports reporting either Benjani or Dindane

Hmmmm..

We are foolish to sell Benni and not replace him. In fact if we replace him by Dindane or Benjani, Id say we have significantly weakened ourselves and the money raised will doubtfully be put away for a rainy day next summer.

Why did we leave things to the last minute? Its been clear for the last week at the very least, ABSOLUTE VERY LEAST, that Benni will join West Ham.

I don't know Bob, hardly any clubs have their transfer business all done and dusted as we go into the last day.

If we're going to persist with just the one up front, which looks the way, then we probably have enough numbers anyway in Nico, Franky, Roberts and Arnold Hoillett (although you couldn't stick him up there on his own of course). Not saying that that's the way I'd set our stall out though.

Roberts out and Beattie in wouldn't surprise me, pure guess like.

Not necessarly in one lump WWWM. The days of transfer fees are receding fast. Unfortunately, and it is calamitous for football (but good for yacht makers, tatooists and dealers in bling tatt) the days of signing on fees and ludicrous wages are taking over. Personally I've no idea why it's taken so long post Bosman and freedom of contract.

We are quite lucky to have a manager who with his chairman saw this coming and has accumulated years of experience.

They were talking about Benjani on SSN saying that Rovers might be interested. Apparently he was all set to join Sunderland but the deal broke down over a 'medical issue'.

I remember there being a problem with one or both of his knees when City signed him from Pompey which iirc knocked down the price. If that's the case we need to stay well clear.

We obviously needed the cheque to clear.

To go and sign a few players willy nilly and then find the WHO cheque is made of rubber or to discover those two dodgepots are reneging on the deal is not the best way forward. ;)

We all know they are the two biggest West Ham Olympic fans on the planet cos they keep telling us they are, but lets be honest would you trust then at their word? They may say they love WHO but their real love by a country mile is money.

I thought nicko said there is a "good one" and thats why he was keeping it close to his chest.

Dindane? Really? :(

This is what I don't get. No disrespect to Nicko, but hasn't the Dindane and Rovers link been around for a week or so? Didn't seem to be an original one.

As for those guessing Cassano or Robbie Keane .

Bet it will be the latter.

We'll "keep the powder dry" remember.

Who's gonna give money for him after his miss on Saturday. If he was a £2million before it started he's just dropped to £1million.

Personally I'd be happy to head into the next part of the season with what we have up top, adding Hoillet in as the fourth (playing him up top a bit more as well as wide my just sway the boy). Sam rarely plays 2 up top (despite the fact that Niko needs a partner), so with us having 3 strikers who can all play the role, why not keep our cash in our pocket.

I'd be putting most of my efforts into all the decent players whose contracts come up at the end of the season, there must be someone of quality out there.

With the trust willing to back for a young (British?) player as well, we could get in two hopefully better, 1st team players in the summer before we even start wheeling and dealing. It just makes sense.

I don't want to sign someone for the sake of it and it really seems that we will.

Benni's saved wages could transpire into a juicy signing on bonus for some European freebie.

We have known for months that we don't have any money available for January transfers and the Big Mac sale has been held up by the work permit that is totally out of our control. Sam will have irons in the fire.

Big Mac got us 1 goal in 14 apps. It's not all doom and gloom, I'm sure that given 14 apps any of our strikers will get more than 1 goal in the remainder of the season.

If Sam can make a signing that's right for the club then he will. Otherwise we will be better off sticking with what we have got than signing somebody who doesn't really want to be here and won't improve our front line.

Do you have a link?

Permanent or loan? We might be able to get 1m+ for him which would be very decent business.

Mentioned it on the last page - SSN

No mention or a fee but permanent.

Im flying out of the country at 5 so il have to watch the last bit of the transfer window on the plane.....good old iphone

Getting Dindane in on loan wouldn't be the end of the world. For all his faults and failings in front of goal this season for Portsmouth, he still has scored more Premiership goals than our current strikers (granted 3 of them came in one game, which is impressive in itself). He has real pace, which is something our team has been lacking for so long. He's different option for the team and could be an effective signing in the short term. It goes to show how slim the pickings are in January and that we couldn't do much better with our budget.
