bluebruce Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Don't forget, pompey are bottom of the table and therefore spend more time defending than attacking. You shouldn't assume automatically that Pompey being lower means they create less chances. There have been several games where Pompey have peppered their opponent's goals but finished nothing off, and have been unlucky. Dindane has often been cited as a reason for this!

hollowsr Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Benni officially gone http://www.rovers.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10303~1951170,00.html "Blackburn were very good to me and I had a wonderful time there but now this is a new opportunity." Never had a disagreement with Sam and they both respect each other, it was clear to Benni it was time to move on. Admits he didn't do things properly but felt he wouldn't get chances here and didn't like being in and out of the side. Wanted to say thankyou to the fans; we were utterly fantastic to him, he wishes us all the best and wishes the club all the best in the future.
mogster Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Good riddence Benni. Enjoy your strike partnership with Mido! For once you'll be doing the majority of the work up front!!!
A cup of beans Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 i'd rather stick with what we have than sign either dindan or benjani quite right waggy! both players are substandard and havent set the prem alight, and are not likely too. if we end up with either of these 2, something smells! are you gonna call panorama or am i! :lol
RibbleValleyRover Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Benni officially gone http://www.rovers.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10303~1951170,00.html You should see some of his comments on the Benni thread or the West Ham website, basically saying he always wanted to go to West Ham but settled with Rovers when he left Porto. Good riddance.
greco Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Ah then you were disagreeing with it because you thought I was coming at it from another angle that I wasn't. My points were not meant to suggest that we simply must buy another forward, they were only to express my discontent at the prospect of playing Samba up front again (even though he performed the role fine). None of my points said we had to buy, so it looked like you were disagreeing without actually answering any of my points. Just some crossed wires then ;-) thats the impression i got too, when reading your previous post.
LeChuck Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 West Ham being linked with Ilan on a free transfer...I'm surprised Sam isn't all over that one, seems like his sort of signing. Good goal record, ex-Brazil international, played in France, no transfer fee...

Wanted to say thankyou to the fans; we were utterly fantastic to him, he wishes us all the best and wishes the club all the best in the future. At least he has said he was wrong to go on strike. Cannot complain with the rest of his comments. Fair enough imo. If Sam ahd made it clear that Bennie was not in his plans, then what choice did Bennie have apart from seek a move? Would we not all have done the same?
Sparky Marky Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Because we dont have a choice. Please list a number of 25 year old strikers who could do the job that Rovers could attract. There arent that many. There are tonnes of them all over the world....it just smacks of very lazy scouting and I for one don't want to see £3-£4 million spent on c-rap like dindane and benjani....There's better players down Pleasington on sunday....I'm tellin you....

Pretty much the final nail in the coffin of Souness/Hughes era, judging by who we are set to replace him with.
mogster Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Comes from Beattie camp. Beware. They're saying Fulham have made a bid now.
RevidgeBlue Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Because we dont have a choice. Please list a number of 25 year old strikers who could do the job that Rovers could attract. There arent that many. There must be numerous options out there who represent better value than Beattie/Benjani. Even if it means paying more initially.
neophox Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Benni will be 33 this year...good to get around £2m for him.
alexanders Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 13.52 Hannover have beaten off competition from two Premier League teams to sign Sevilla striker Arouna Kone on loan until the end of the season Wonder if we were interested? 13.48 Rumours coming in from Portugal suggest that Portsmouth are close to signing Manuel Fernandes on loan from Valencia. This is a loan-signing I would like.

Well you nor I have any idea about Rovers scouting so lets not speculate over that. Again, if you know of a number of young strikers who would realisticaly come to Rovers then lets hear them. Dindane is rubbish I agree but if thats who we're going for then lets assume there are very few alternatives who we could attract either on a financial level or a football level.
martmitch Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I bet we end up signing no-one today. yet were all on here refreshing like lemons for just that glimmer of hope
G Somerset Rover Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Benni will be 33 this year...good to get around £2m for him. I imagine that Stoke and Man City will be saying the same thing if we take either Beattie or Benjani on a similar deal (Granted they're ever so slightly younger).
hermitstool Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 13.48 Rumours coming in from Portugal suggest that Portsmouth are close to signing Manuel Fernandes on loan from Valencia. This is a loan-signing I would like. I agree totally, Manuel Fernandes would be a sensational signing. If we're not interested then we certainly should be- I remember when he was at Everton he was fantastic. And we have previous for snaffling Pompey signings- Kalinic anyone? There are a lot of players available for loans who it couldn't hurt to at least try and sign.... they would be signings well above our current stature but Raul? Guti? Mental-Cassano? And Hitzlsperger moved on a free the the other day... It'd be nice to actually be shocked by a Rovers signing- though admittedly Basturk was out of the blue...
thenodrog Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 15th in Serie A, as well. Hardly that attractive. Living in Rome's prob an attraction.
hollowsr Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 yet were all on here refreshing like lemons for just that glimmer of hope We've got to keep hope! But my prediction is that no-one comes in, cue 5.05 the messageboard being flooded with messages about sh*t scouts, manager, chairman, club, other fans, and anything else that can be blamed.
thenodrog Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 5pm today, unless your Spurs then you get an extra day or 2. Thought it was Arsenal and Arshavin?
mogster Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I bet we end up signing no-one today. That's fast becoming my preferred option!
jonv Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 according to ssn dindane is actually in manchester for talks?
alexanders Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 At least we can pay his wages. I doubt Portsmouth can. One cash-strapped club (Valencia) loaning out to another cash-strapped club.
