Majiball Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 We've managed to get to 10th in the table with a strike-force that hasn't hit double figures in the league combined?? (haven't added them up but its got to be close) Why people are saying we will struggle is beyond me, since we are where we are without having any striker on form to date this year. I'd also like to think that if we did keep our powder dry it wouldn't evaporate and that JW would keep it to one side till the summer.

Steve Moss Posted February 1, 2010 Author Posted February 1, 2010 A cheeky loan bid for Owen or the pole (with a fixed fee at the end of the season)? Just anything for a bit of joy on the last day of a transfer window for once. Why not? Worse thing that could happen is the SAF says no. And I think Owen has enough gas in the tank to be worth something the next few seasons.
Taggart Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 DINDANE...too many agents, too little time. BENJANI...didn't his medical take so long when he joined Man City that old Thaksin extended the deadline and broke the rules to get him?...surely you are not going down that road. BEATTIE...other clubs in, no-one agreeing a fee. Farce. nicko - did you get confirmation that the foreign striker we were intereste din, did indeed get signed up by another club ? is there potential for another Basturk deal, i.e another striker that comes in from left field that isn`t on the radar. I`m hoping we do some business as if we lose kalinic to injury, then our options aren`t looking like scoring many goals !

It's a good point but our league position doesn't take into account the amount of teams below us with 1, 2 or even three games in hand. It is only in the last few weeks we have seen any real hope.
budha Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 nicko - did you get confirmation that the foreign striker we were intereste din, did indeed get signed up by another club ? Wasn't it established that the foreign striker was Ilan, that has been all but paraded at the Upton Park? Not confirmed yet thou.
RibbleValleyRover Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 15.25: Sportsmail understands that Fulham have had bid of £2m for James Beattie rejected.
unluckymorton Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Exactly.....We should have kept Benni, he is a proven goalscorer. The money we got for him will never be seen again, it will go to wages. We were struggling for goals before Benni went, An injury to Kalinic and we are pretty much screwed! Get rid of an ineffective striker and plough the money back into the club. Good business to me. What is the point of keeping a player who doesn't want to play for you and show's it with every performance? We've got rid, got money in for him and are saving on his excessive wages.
nicko Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Just a point. We do realise that the 5pm deadline isn't really a deadline at all. As long as moves are in progress they can go through after that point. 11 o'clocker anyone?
booth Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Is it just me who thinks this is a cynical attempt by the board to cash in on players and not bring in replacements by doing all their business close to the end of the window? How many times have we heard... "We tried to sign a few players before the window closed but..." I hope I'm wrong.
Grabbi Graeme Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 SSN: Fulham have said that they have now concluded their business for today, so they wont be signing Beattie.
MeanGreenMachine Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 You’re a bad man Mr Nixon, a bad man!

cloggyjimmybrfc Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 That would be 11 o'clock on February 4th then... Nicko...in which year?
Manoid Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 SSN: Fulham have said that they have now concluded their business for today, so they wont be signing Beattie. Looks like he'll end up at Celtic then...

How many times have we heard... "We tried to sign a few players before the window closed but..." I hope I'm wrong. I myself can not recall Rovers make a statement like "We tried to sign a few players before the window closed but..." Nonsense booth. You listen to the press too much. We have never planned to sign players in the transfer window due to lack of funds, however Sam has has managed to make two decent looking signings. We may be talking to or chasing a couple of targets today because the Big Mac deal has just been completed. It's nothing new, just the media getting us all in a tizz. There's only one man to listen to and that's Nicko, don't take any notice of anyone else.
nicko Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Sounds more positive than your last post (the "farce" comment) Nicko! No, I was just pointing out that the 5pm thing is a bit bogus. Clubs can say they are putting through paperwork and having medicals beyond then - as long as they were trying to do it before 5. For instance, how can Adam Johnson have a full medical at Man City in an hour? And how could Scott McDonald do the same at Middlesbrough. And when do the permits get approved for Mido etc? Some total comedies and farces being played out right now. And some scandalous pieces of business too.

Steve Moss Posted February 1, 2010 Author Posted February 1, 2010 For instance, how can Adam Johnson have a full medical at Man City in an hour? The Time has Adam Johnson's transfer as still being negotiated with ManC but that we're still expressing an interest. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/article7010448.ece Any hope that we're still in the running for Johnson?
nicko Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Any more ins or out involving Rovers Nicko, or is that it now till the summer? There are still some efforts being made about a striker but it's going to be unlikely unless prices and wages and commissions drop dramatically in the next hour or two or three or four...

hollowsr Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Skysports really do just make ###### up constantly, its been Benjani, then Dindane, then both, then Benjani now Dindane again, stop f'in guessing

The player had the choice of three big clubs...and has chosen Manchester City. Quite a kick in the stones for Chelsea. They used to get who they wanted - now City just pick up their targets.
