sparkspakespoke Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 He wouldnt get in the Real Madrid team and would he get in the Chelsea team? he wasnt happy being a sub to Downing so he seems level headed - surely he wouldnt want to fight with Joe Cole, Malouda & Kalou?? MGP earns crazy money with us, if i remember rightly Johnson earns something like 10k a week.....5 times less than our left winger!! Im sure if we wanted him enough, we could get him You are right he wouldnt start for Chelsea or Real but they are just two of the biggest clubs interested in him. with a contract running down and with his talent he can pretty much take his pick. I dont think we have a hope in hell when other clubs can offer him Europe and bigger wages etc. Would give it a go as he's a quality prospect but I think we need a more realistic target. Bale could be useful although I dont think he has the pace to play on the wing.

G Somerset Rover Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Rovers have taken two youngsters on trial (I think one had already been reported): Youngsters on trial Also mentions that we don't have anything to spend in January unless Allardyce can offload some players first. Never heard that one before!!
Bobby G Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 I thought it was common knowledge that he had to offload before buying, hence the rumours of Reid, MGP, Zurab and Benni leaving.
RoyRover Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 I'm glad that Sam is looking to unearth some talent from different places. I'm sure he's on the lookout for another N'Zonzi bargain! As the LET says, we need to off load some players and I imagine Pedersen and hopefully Diouf would be at the top of the list of players to go. I'm sure by letting them go, we would be able to make a huge cut in our wage bill. Sky Sports are linking us with the Bosnian winger Senijad Ibricic again. Blackburn eye Bosnia ace. It's just further developments from the story that surfaced a few weeks ago. Apparently we've had scouts watching him for his last few games for Hadjuk Split. I think he would be a good bit of business and would add some much needed pace and skill to the team.
67splitscreen Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 I have heard that at the recent fans forum JW stated there is no money for January, over to you Sam, who can you offload?
RoversSG Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Isn't bale supposed to be injury prone too? If so, i rather not take the risk. We already have a number of players who're always out injured (grella, reid, dunn) and we're not exactly rich enough to be able to afford more of such players.
joey_big_nose Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 I have heard that at the recent fans forum JW stated there is no money for January, over to you Sam, who can you offload? Unless Ibric is just us fannying around we must have found some money down the back of the sofa, or know how to get some. Reid and Pedersen are not going to get new contracts. Benni is a bit up in the air. I suppose Sam could make a case to JW to relelase some of next years Sky money now so we can pursue a couple of targets if the right player is available who won't be in the summer. Only fees I can see us getting is maybe 1m for Pedersen. Beattie Roberts swap seems a possibility if Sam is interested. Not sure if Pulis will go for J-Rob but a maybe. Getting Salgado is currently seeming a bit stupid.
G Somerset Rover Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 I thought it was common knowledge that he had to offload before buying, hence the rumours of Reid, MGP, Zurab and Benni leaving. Sorry Bobby it was a poor attempt at sarcasm from me. I'm with Joey - if we're not going to use Salgado then it becomes more and more frustrating that his reported 35k per week could have been used on area's that need strengthening. Bale, Van the man etc are just pie in the sky talk right now unless we can shift some serious k's off the wage bill. MGP and Reid MUST go in January if we're to bring in new blood, with the likes of Roberts and Benni (even though I'd keep him) open to offers. Sam's wheeling and dealing ability will be tested to the limit in January.
ROVERS Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 looks like my question for Van Nistelroy had been answered................. offload benni/roberts, zurab, andrews, pederson, diouf bring in van nistelroy, Ibricic and 1 loan all these done by start of next season would be good
Amo Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Prepare for the inevitable disappointment that accompanies every January transfer window. We'll all stay up till midnight, hoping we've signed the next Rivelino, only to sign Mark Fish on a free transfer.
nicko Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Nicko, please give us something real! People here are dreaming of Bale or Adam "Real Madrid or Chelsea" Johnson. How is Chavez and Slovakian kid doing? And anything new on Dunny´s contract situation? Chavez has been and gone, by the sound of it. The Slovakian is just a young one. Meriem is due back. Hope he is fit this time. Beattie rumours worry me. Can't see the need for that one. Still waiting on Chelsea signing a striker and giving a definite answer on Franco. Number one priority for me. There will be money found for January...and there should be a few quid out of making the Carling Cup semis. No word on exits yet, but I think there will be a couple just to keep the payroll level if a couple come in.
Bobby G Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 nicko, what updates if any do you have on Reid, Zurab, MGP and Benni?
waggy Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 I have heard that at the recent fans forum JW stated there is no money for January, over to you Sam, who can you offload? we might get a fee for jacobsen,he has done nothing wrong and could bring in a couple of million
nicko Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 nicko, what updates if any do you have on Reid, Zurab, MGP and Benni? Reid is injured. Zurab is coming back after a poor time at Newcastle [forgot he was there until I was reminded yesterday]. MGP and Benni may attract interest, but I suspect that will only really come to a head at the end of January, not at the start. Both will want to be here for the Carling Cup semis. The first thing to do is sort out Di Santo, all the other moves fall into place off the back of that. But you are dealing with Chelsea, so that needs a bit of patience.
Bobby G Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 If we somehow make the final of the cup, I can see people like Benni wanting to stick around. Is Di Santo officially leaving on the 1st? Sam said we made a formal approach to retain him. Shouldnt we get a decision on it sooner rather than later?
nicko Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Is Di Santo officially leaving on the 1st? Sam said we made a formal approach to retain him. Shouldnt we get a decision on it sooner rather than later? The loan is up at the end of December. So it really is a matter of urgency. However you have to get Chelsea to agree to the deal and they are trying to get a striker or two in themselves first, so it is not as pressing an issue for them.
mhead Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Nicko worried about Beattie! Get him signed....ready to score against Nicko's mate in the "Return to the Dingledump' 3 points there will be worth the 900k to sign him.
Bobby G Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Where does it say that we are interested in Beattie? I seem to have missed it.
nicko Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Nicko worried about Beattie! Get him signed....ready to score against Nicko's mate in the "Return to the Dingledump' 3 points there will be worth the 900k to sign him. The fee would be more than that...and I'm more worried about what it would do for you rather than to anyone else.
tcj_jones Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 I feel Sam's immediate priorities / targets should be to tie down Hoilett and Dunn on mediium - long term contracts, and to secure Di Santo on loan for the remainder of the campaign. LB is not a priority and, while Dunn remains at the club, neither is CM (although another creative / attack-minded CM would be nice). Van Heerden and Hoilett have been at the club for six months now, so should have the core / upper body strength and reserve team / training experience to be blooded into the team. Likewise Kalinic. With Pedersen seemingly on his way out, Di Santo possibly as well, I'd say this is a matter of real importance. In sum, we should look to tie current players down and blood signings into the team before delving into the transfer market at a time when prices will be hugely inflated and when few players will be available for transfer.
Manoid Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Have some of you gone mad?! Why on earth would we want to sign James B-team? This is the stupid sort of thing I'd expect from Paul Ince not Big Sam.
unluckymorton Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 we might get a fee for jacobsen,he has done nothing wrong and could bring in a couple of million We don't need to sell Jacobsen and would be crazy to sell hem. He's a good solid old fashioned right back. A great signing by Sam.
John Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Sam said he attempted to sign Beattie before his move to Stoke, so would not be too surprised if he was interest....
RibbleValleyRover Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Any news on where Bentley might be going Nicko? I'd love him back at Ewood, but i'm guessing Spurs will want a fortune for him...
