[Archived] Sam's January Targets

Recommended Posts

Sam says no Celtic inquiries regarding MGP, its just "chip paper".

http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/I-ve-had-no-player-enquiries-Allardyce-article256875.html

Interesting comments there where he talks about not being in the mood or it being the right time for contract talks. Pretty much guarantees Pedersen is leaving in Jan or the summer, unless he really transforms himself. Its well known that some players have had contract talks recently so Sam is telling some fibs.

he had better not be guarenteed a start for the rest of the season in this deal, if his goal return does'nt improve.

i still want another striker in jan, preferably some one with a track record of decent finishing in a decent league french/spanish/german don't care about pace or age just more involved than benni will do.......pipe dream would be van nistelrooy, never happen like but as close to that calibre as we could afford would be nice.

Nicko's story - Sam given the green light to keep Di Santo for the rest of the season.

That's good news, including the intent to make the move permenant at the end of the loan spell. I'd really like to see Kalinic and Di Santo start a game together. I think they'd tear the place up.

Nicko, you mentioned earlier that Chelsea were looking to bring in a striker or two before we got an answer on Di Santo. Is Villa one of the strikers they were looking at, I noticed Valencia signed Dominguez from Rubin Kazan today, does that mean Chelsea believe they've got Villa and that's why we got an answer on Di Santo.

Sergio Aguero might be signed. He plays more as a winger, but also as a striker. I think Chelsea must be confident of signing him. Di Santo and Kalinic are young, give them time. However, we need a striker who is ready and able now.

Seriously, some of you are in cloud cuckoo land. We can replace some of our 30k plus wage earners with better for less? Who's got the magic wand?

It's not going to happen. Not this season and not next unless the world football markets turn on their heads. It'd be nice to dream like that but reality bites.

Rubbish! We can replace Roberts, McCarthy and DiSanto with three 20-goal per season strikers and pay them 5k per week. Then we get rid of Diouf and Pedersen and replace them with a couple of pacy and skilful wingers - one left-footed and one right-footed. Again 5k per week max. Oh, and one of them needs to be able to score from every free kick and the other takes corners. Then we need a really skilful midfielder - a bit like Tugay - but on a free and doesn't really want any wages. Sorted. Now onto the budget deficit...

I am not sure another crock would be an ideal solution.

Exactly! Crock on at least £60k a week if he joined - no thanks!!

BRFC95 you live in a dream world.....where will we get a striker with a track record of goals for zero money? :glare:

I'm totally with that one smoss, I've been calling for that for a while now, the two together would be awesome. Sure they are not that different to each other in style but I see something that says they will be a very good partnership, especially with a pacey (young) midfield player behind them joining in the attack (Hoilett?).

Benny is a god in the box, if only we could keep him in there for a full match because he's lethal. Trouble is we have no service for that type of player and he constantly has to drop short to pick up the ball and get involved in the game. Put Benny in a ManU side and he'd be top scorer in the league np. I love Benny but hate to say that we will improve by letting him go. Either that or buy a complete new midfield to serve him, and we know which is the cheaper and more realistic option.

Thanks for playing for us Benny but you are right, now is the time to go.

Our best attacking period of the game on saturday was when the 2 of them were on the pitch together

I agree as well. When Hoilett, Di Santo and Kalinic were on the pitch together against Liverpool they were awesome and created 2 or 3 opportunities together. Together with Emerton and Dunn, we have 5 creative players in the team that can do a really good job and open up defences. McCarthy is good, but let's give Kalinic a try now.

January is going to be very interesting; I'd pot (sell) the following:

Roberts - £1m

Andrews - £2m

Pederson - £1m

Diouf - £1m

Reckon we can get £6m for that lot, then do the following:

buy creative cm

get bentley back on loan

£5m at best - but probably £120k a week shifted off the wages

More than enough reason to get rid of EHD, MGP, and Roberts.

I didn't include Andrews as he would be a decent sub if we kept him and approved the midfield.

You bugger belief ...you predict us naively to batter every team, yet you want rid of players (ha and keep the snail aka Andrews ) if we were doing as well as you make out surely no none would be for sale?

We could be doing a bit more battering, if certain members of the squad were actually putting in an effort. Hence my opinion that we get rid of certain players. I believe players can be found who would do more for less than those three.

As to the balance of your post, I personally believe that winning has a lot to do with attitude. I'm confident that there isn't a team that we aren't capable of battering (assuming that certain players are kept far from the squad), so I act accordingly. Is there any particular reason why you have a preference for the role of surrender monkey?

??????????????????????????

Aston Villa, Man City, Arsenal, Tottenham, Manu Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea - on our day with the right team we could "batter" every one of those?

Do you buy your carpet glue in industrial quantities? If not, what else have you been sniffing?

I don't think anyone enjoys playing the role of surrender monkey, in fact people are quite angry about our away capitulations.

It's not just attitude, it's skill, experience, training, fitness ... we would struggle to better most teams sufficiently in any or all of these attributes, in order to give them a battering.

It's not defeatism, just common sense, and making use of the mark 1 eyeballs you were born with.

I believe we did indeed beat AV and Chelsea, and obtained a result against Liverpool. By memory, we were also in the game for the first 2/3 against Arsenal until the ref decided to ignore a clear penalty which took the wind out of the Rovers' sails. So yes, I think we are capable of beating them all. And I'm comfortably glue free at the present. My intoxicant of choice (for this week) is Jack Daniels.

My understanding was that Abbey was critical of my pre-game comments that I anticipated a victory and that I do so habitually. I make no apologies for that as I believe that we are capable of winning. There is class on our squad. We can win. When we don't I'm as angered as anyone, especially when I percieve (using my eyes, to quote you) certain players as not contributing. Hence my suggestion that we move them on.

Doubt very much we have a sell-on clause on a £17m sale.......

As for the signings from Sam - so far very good - its just the deadwood he needs to cull next. He started that job in summer with the likes of Mokoena, Ooijer etc - now for Roberts, Gamst & then in the summer Diouf & Andrews

I'm quite certain Diouf will stay put. He's an Allardyce favourite, has experience and can cover both wings. From that point of view he's good to have in the squad, atleast til' the end of the season.

Rumours that Everton are after McGeady at Celtic are surfacing again. I that one goes trough it should open a spot for MGP up there in Scotland.
