RoverRich Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 Quick look at Holden's wiki page shows that he was in the MLS Best XI in 2009 which suggests that he is a pretty good player. As he can play on the left and is still relatively young, he sounds like he would be a useful acquisition especially on a free transfer.

thenodrog Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 I heard we were looking into a loan deal for Mr Bentley - any truth Nicko? If his head and his ego are not so far up his own arse to be irretrievable (and it's a bloody big IF) it would be great. Bentley could always play anywhere across midfield with aplomb and would take to Sam's striker supporting role that is currently shared between the injury prone Dunny and the unfit Benny like a duck to water. I rem at one time he was not touted as a new Beckham but as a new Bergkamp. His career needs kick starting again big time and it could easily be with us. I guess his terms would really need to be amended to our terms and I'm not sure that would be acceptable to him or his agent...... see sentence 1.
thenodrog Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Apparently a pay rise will keep him stateside? http://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/Article.aspx/1527194?UserKey=#ixzz0ZrNGLxQB 10 fold increase to 4 grand per week!!!! wtf..... if he's any good we could give him a 100 fold increase! Thats not even an issue for a Prem team.

Surely the Rovers can exceed 4,000/week?

Well as I understand it he wants football and we want him back. The question for me would be whether his ego would allow it. Depends how bad he wants to play? A late surge in a side that gets the best out of him might see him get to South Africa in the summer...

If he has any common sense he would take the opportunity if it arises, clearly he has gone off the rails both on and off the pitch since his move to Spurs. He needs a fresh start and we can give him that. I'd love it if we could flog some of the deadwood in the squad and pay to bring him back, the talent and ability is still there he just needs to get his head right.

Crank Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Bentley wont return to us... if he wants out at Spurs, i can see the likes of Everton, Fulham, perhaps even Liverpool having a look. Saying that, i would love to see him back, but his ego will get the better of him. He wont want to look like an idiot, knowing what a mistake he made by joining Spurs.
alexanders Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Rovers lead chase for Maletic Certainly one for the future, but I like how we are taking. That we actually need to get players through the ranks to compete against the top teams. We have the facilities, but we need the best prospects. Holden seems like an interesting guy and I would like us to take a better look at him. According to his Wiki he is actually scottish born and was a part of Sunderland's team in 2005, but because he was attacked at a bar in Newcastle it prevented him from getting any first-team apparances and he want back to the states. As someone else mentioned he was also on MLS XI 2009 - which has to mean that the kid has something about him. It would also increase our fan base in the States , which has a huge potential! People in the EPL who has won the MLS XI award: Tim Howard (x2), Brad Friedel, Clint Dempsey (x2), Ryan Nelsen (x2).
The Rover of Finland Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Rovers lead chase for Maletic Nicko, do you know anything more of this guy and how close are we to sign him? Ibricic seems to be dead end. Also Nicko, do you think Rovers might have some deals done but published in January? Thanks.
G Somerset Rover Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Is he any good with the ball delivered to his nose at 200 mph? Bryan my boss may well be invoicing you for a new keyboard over the coming days!

Also Nicko, do you think Rovers might have some deals done but published in January? Thanks. I know the kid has been to some clubs and is returning. Aal at another club reckons that Rovers seem to be favourites. It's not one to get too over-heated about either way. Ibricic seems unlikely as his last 'big' game was a disappointment. But you never know, if Rovers can't find anyone else they could re-visit that. I don't think there are any biggies already done...just Di Santo and possibly the French-Algerian lad plus Meriem if fit.
imy9 Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Who is the French Algerian guy? I knew we had Merium on trial but cant remember this guy!
ABBEY Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 algerian? wow im impressed at such high standards....there has to be talent equal or above in england surely?
T4E Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 algerian? wow im impressed at such high standards....there has to be talent equal or above in england surely? You know where Zinedine Zidane was born, right?
imy9 Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Mourad Meghni plays for Lazio and is a very talented attacking midfield player (says my Algerian friend!)
modes98 Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 there has to be talent equal or above in england surely? There probably is but as you have seen our the years you end up paying 5 or 10 times as much to get them. Then they turn out to be over rated and you've wasted £5m or £10m.
Hughesy Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Nicko is talking about the algerian midfielder - 20 years old or something - spooted by the same scout as NZonzi was! You know where Zinedine Zidane was born, right? In a hospital!?
Sparky Marky Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Nicko is talking about the algerian midfielder - 20 years old or something - spooted by the same scout as NZonzi was! Another Big Lumbering useless lump then...
Hughesy Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Another Big Lumbering useless lump then... Is that your view of NZonzi?!
Roberto Policano Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Schalke have told Kevin Kuranyi he can leave in January for £3.5 million,if he won't sign his new contract. I wonder if Allardyce will show interest again.
