[Archived] Sam's January Targets

10 million might be better spent on 2-3 of midfielders, and let Kalinic and Di Santo take advantage of the improved service.

I very much doubt we're going to spend £10m on anyone, but that ^^ is exactly what we should be doing. We could be playing Wayne Rooney up front at the moment and he'd hardly score given the amount of chances we aren't creating!

Eddie 'masterscout' also didn't think n'zonzi would be good enough for the prem i I remember rightly so it's horses for courses really.

That isn't at all what I said. I said that he was a good prospect and well respected as a talent, if a bit raw. I hadn't seen him that much and didn't expect him to play as much as he has.

If money is available in Jan it needs to spent on a winger, attacking midfielder or playmaker.

Absolutely.

Moyes wants Maxi Rodriguez of Atletico, who should go cheaply in January as his contract expires in the summer. http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/David-Moyes-plans-Everton-transfer-spree-on-the-cheap-article263729.html. Is he any good? His wiki page seems to support him being an excellent attacking midfielder. If so, maybe Sam would swoop in to undercut Everton, like he did with Portsmouth when he snatched Kalinic.

Lots of rumours going around:

Potentially Out:

McCarthy to Fulham

Pedersen to Celtic

Potentially In:

French under-21 midfielder Amine Linganzi

Van Nistelrooy

Gudjohnson

James Beattie

Soldado

I can believe McCarthy and Pedersen on their way out, but can't see any of those names coming in.

Surely that story about Roberto Soldado is made up.

Kevin Kuranyi for £3.5 million

Milan Jovanovic from Standard for £3-4 million

Paolo Guerrero from Hamburg, even though he's out till March with a knee injury for £3-4 million.

Semih Senturk £4-5 million.

Would be hard to do,but all 4 would surely offer better value, especially the first 2?.

Rovers would surely be better suited going after someone like Ireneusz Jelen at Auxerre to bring more pace into the side?.

If Everton could sign Maxi Rodriguez it would be a huge coup for them,Zenit are interested, as are Juventus.

Plus there will be many more suiters waiting in the wings, especially if his contract expires.

Maxi Rodriguez would not come to Rovers, even if we bid.

Van Nistelrooy: Too expensive and big clubs are allegedly evaluating.

Gudjohnson: His agent dismissed a move from Monaco, IIRC.

James Beattie: Liverpool is allegedly interested.

Soldado: 10 million is crazy money. The Rovers could fix a lot of problems with that cash, and while Soldado is awesome, the money can be better spent elsewhere.

I can see Linganzi and the Scottish-American, Stuart Holden, being brought in as they would not cost much and would likely be an improvement over some current wearers of the Rovers shirt.

Unless the owners have changed their stance in the last week or two, or unless players are sold, we don't have any cash available for incoming transfers in January let alone 10m. The joys of having wantaway owners but that's a separate issue.

Even if someone is sold I would suspect the most exotic signing would be Beattie or someone comparable on an emergency "keep us up" type basis.

Someone on Radio Rovers came up with an off the wall suggestion post match, sell Robinson for 5-6 m and promote Jason Brown.

I wouldn't like to see that happen myself, but who knows how desperate we may be for goals/creativity come mid/late January?

Yes there will be a line-up of buyers for Robinson right now supposedly.

We desperately lack quality in midfield so I wouldnt spend a dime on strikers unless a midfielder or two is brought in first.

This is turning out to be a re-building season, so I think anywhere above 15th would be a success (that's where the board budgeted us to finish).

I agree---if we have 10M to spend on one player I'd like Bentley please. Let's address the real problem--lack of creativity and drive in midfield.

For 8 mill, i would rather get Kuranyi and Jovanovic in, if those figures are to be believed. You have to ask what that journo has been smoking. Its not just a lack of striking power, but who will create those chances? We need 1 or 2 creative midfielders, a left winger and maybe even a right winger. Diouf, Andrews, Roberts, Pedersen out. 10mill? I dont think we could afford a freebie at the moment, unless the high earners are sold.

People thinking that we have 5 or 6 million to spend during the transfer window are living in cloud cuckoo land. As things stand Sam has nothing to spend in January, the only way that money is going to be made available will be through sales of players. At the moment it is highly likely that Benni will be sold, we may get 2 or 3 million for him, that will be used to sign a replacement striker. We desperately need to sign a midfielder, somebody who can offer some creative spark, unfortunately that costs money that we do not have.

I can't see the Soldado thing...unless it is cheap or a loan-with-a-view.

Belhadj was looking good until he scored a worldie and helped Portsmouth believe they can stay up. But finances will still dictate his and their future.

Interesting times.

I think the news of the screws has lost its marbles. Just how they can report a deal done for £10m is unbeleiveable UNLESS we have got a new owner in the pipeline and they are funding it !!!

We have no money its as simple as that.

As for selling Robbo - no brainer especially if your suggesting Brown fits the bill. I would say Bunn is the more complete keeper, I would even suggest Fielding could do a much better job and we know that he does have the potential to become a top keeper.

McCarthy/MGP and spit could bring in about £4m tops and that isnt going to buy a Soldado. Getting rid of Salgado/Treacy/Andrews and Roberts would probably generate a further £2.5m and even then if we did sign Soldado we still need someone to provide a supply line.

The whole playing staff needs a makeover, the deadwood needs releasing and some of the current staff need a kick up the jacksy.

According to Mr Nixon in today's 'People' we are chasing Nadir Belhadj from Portsmouth.

There is a suggestion that he can go for nothing...as long as the next club takes up his contract.

His goal yesterday won't help any move.

But Pompey still need the money.

One downside is that he goes to the ANC. So it's not an attractive buy for anyone. But a decent addition as a possible 'free' or loan.

Is there anything in the Soldado story Nicko..and where did we get 10 mill from?..have they been hiding the money from previous sales or have the Walker trust got the Christmas spirit?....

hi all,

I know long time no hear one player I would like to see here if they get relegated would fit in with uefa's plan to have more home grown players in your squad is Mark Noble of the Hammers better than what we have ten times more creative than all our midfielders put together and with the Hammers perious financial position might be able to get him on a cheap am also hoping Camel Merium solves our problems but think that Belhadj would be a good addition good quick and delivers a decent cross I also think 2 more players worth looking at if they go down is K.Davies & Ryan Taylor at Bolton I think though if we were to get Davies inwe would have to get rid of either Benni or JR I would not be sorry to see either go as they are both guilty of missing open chances something Davies would not do.

Who on earth would buy Robinson for 5 or 6 million? We would be lucky to get back what we paid for him.
