Amo Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 I'm sure if it weren't for the fact he plays for Rovers, a lot of fans here would want Robinson a million miles away from the international set-up. He's a liability at the highest level. As for people who believe we've been spoiled with Brad and we'll never see his like again, I'm sure the same was declared once Flowers left. We could have done better than Robinson, but Ince chose to pick the nearest available goalkeeper.

CrazyIvan Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 This is ridiculous. Rovers fans are the ONLY ones giving Robinson a hard time. Everybody else is commenting how he must be in the England set up with his form being as good as it is. Is it blinkered external world or just the old Ince signing predjudice striking again? I don't think it's a blinkered world.
AggyBlue Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 I don't want to have to pay to watch Pedersen, Diouf, Roberts or Andrews ever again. Snap. Those four out and two 'premier standard' in would do me.

Tyrone Shoelaces Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 The ones who want him in the England squad don't watch him every week. I don't rate the guy as a good all round keeper. Shot stopper yes, our playmaker, maybe. But he's weak at everything else. What ever happened to the guy who stood in for Jaskalinen at Bolton ? He looked handy. If we did try to off load Robbo who would take him off our hands at anything like a decent fee ? As I see it we've only got two players who would be certainties to bring a decent fee Samba and Nzonzi, Dunn's good enough but surely no one would risk him now. Not sure anyone will pay much for Benni. That explains why we're in the position we're in for me.

Bobby G Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 People outside of Blackburn Rovers didnt know how badly MGP was doing until 6 months ago. Before that they just remembered his early Rovers form. About Robinson. I dont think it should be a priority. He is a "decent" keeper. Id place him behind van Der Saar, Friedel, Given, Reina, Cech, Gomes, Schwarzer, Sorenson, Howard, & Jussi for sure, but on the same level or better than pretty much all the rest of the keepers in the league. Its not our biggest weakpoint whatsoever. But from what I have seen, he was going through a golden patch of form earlier in the season, and that's disappeared now, and he is performing average at best. There is no chance in hell he will be recalled to the England squad unless there is a huge injury situation and considering that Foster gets called up when he is 3rd choice at his club, then that says alot. He is very far from his early career form.

I don't think it's a blinkered world. I watch him every week, home and away, and my views on him have nothing to do with him being an Ince signing. I'm just predjudiced against goalkeepers who can't command their area when crosses come in, who have difficulty with long range shots and who are continually beaten on their near post. Yes he is a good, instinctive shot stopper at close range. His kicking ability enables him to set up attacks. However, his basic goalkeeping skills leave much to be desired. When compared to former Rovers' keepers like Friedel, Flowers, Jones, Else, Arnold, Bradshaw etc. he looks pretty average.
G Somerset Rover Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 People outside of Blackburn Rovers didnt know how badly MGP was doing until 6 months ago. Before that they just remembered his early Rovers form. They don't realise even now Bobby. I still find myself snapping at people now who say Pedersen is "a great player"..it does my head in! Everytime people realise I support Rovers the first guy they mention is this moron being our best player. NO HE IS NOT!! He is crap and always has been asides from scoring a few great goals. Lets hope that somehow opposition managers think the same and give us £1.5+ million in January.

True, mentioned to a Celtic supporter friend (when they were linked with MGP), and he said he would be a quality signing for them. I had to explain how bad he has been for us, but they seemed to think my opinion was sour grapes on my part (due to the fact he could be leaving us).

PB, I think all goalkeepers look average these days, Robbo is definitely only mid table. How much has the new lightweight swervealot ball got to do with it though? Tyrone Shoelaces Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 So you are saying everybody else is wrong and you're right? No, I'm just saying that people who's only knowledge of other teams players comes from the match of the day highlights can get strange ideas about the ability of those players. As somebody else said I'd rather have the John Filan that was a reserve for us than Robbo. We had better goalies than Robbo when we played in the lower leagues- Roger Jones and John Arnold to name just two.

When compared to former Rovers' keepers like Friedel, Flowers, Jones, Else, Arnold, Bradshaw etc. he looks pretty average. I watch him almost every week, I can't do every away match, and he seems to be back to some of his best form. I watched the Fulham V Man U highlights and the United keeper was beaten by shots I would have expected other keepers to save but this ball used this last few seasons has made good keepers look average. Robbo started out fairly badly but has improved no end. People who watch him day in day out say that.
magicalmortensleftpeg Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Robinson is a midtable keeper. But we are a lower midtable club. So does anyone think we could get anyone better? seriously? only the Givens, Friedels etc are better, and there are perhaps only 3/4 of them in the league. GK is nowhere near the priority right now. Infact its probably the last position we need to think about.
Sparky Marky Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 swap morten for Mageady and Fortune....
thenodrog Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 I see Stoke and Pullis are nosing around Carroll at NUFC. I guess Pulis has pulled up the dsrawbridge on Beattie. Carrolls a bad boy that prob needs to get away from his home town to realise his potential. I've only seen him play once but if his performance against us was typical and he's cheap enough he'd be OK for us and a Sam type player to boot.
sloth_frattelli Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 swap morten for Mageady and Fortune.... We wouldn't even get McGeady in a straight swap. Agree that MGP needs replaced though.

As for goalies I think we are stuck with Robinson for good or ill and the more we support him the fewer mistakes he will make.

Ricky Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Wilshire on loan would be excellent business, shame it looks like he might go to the dingles.
Backroom Tom Posted December 21, 2009 Backroom Posted December 21, 2009 For those saying fans of other teams don't know how good or bad the likes of Robinson are, I hope you never suggest we go for any players as by your own logic they could be crap but look good at times.
gumboots Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Stuck with Robinson..? He's one of our constant performers, get a grip. Agree there. A goalkeeping replacement is not a priority. He may not be briliant but there are a lot worse out there and few better that we could afford. Any money we have must go on sorting midfield which will afford more protection to the defence and keeper. Cut out the supply to the opposition strikers and your defence don't have anywhere near enough work to do. btw trip to Germany has been cancelled because we were due to travel on Eurostar and it's not running.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 I agree that Goalkeeper is not our No1 priority, I just wish we could have stayed with Freidel. On Saturday we had a back four, two defensive midfielders in Grella and Nzonzi plus Salgado playing on the right and we still leaked two goals ! We need more bodies at the other end of the pitch. As for Carroll I'd swap him for either Roberts or Benni at the moment, he looks to be a big strong guy who knows where the goals are.

I doubt the Mags would. I wonder whats the situation with Zurab and Newcastle? He's back with us I think so does that mean he didn't impress?
