Beattie is a poacher. Has a decent shot on him and is good in the air. I think he has faded away compared to his early years, that's obvious, but Id take the swap in a second. A local player too, and I am sure its a dream move for him to end his career with his us. There's some unfinished business at hand.

Do the swap.

I don't think Beattie is any better than Roberts and I've never really rated Roberts. Plus he's horribly arrogant too. The only thing he has in his favour is he supports the club. But so what? At his age and goal scoring record it's not like a bigger club would come and take him off us! And I'm not sure that would mean he'd run harder or faster.

I will drive Roberts to Stoke and pick-up Beattie and drive him back if so.

What a great bit of business this would be. As someone mentioned he is a Rover and he will bleed for his club. He can score and he wont be giving away freekicks every second.

A no-brainer!

Tony Pulis isn´t stupid. We will have to pay atleast £2M and Roberts to get Beattie. This would improve us but the main problem is still midfield.

At the same time Sam isnt stupid either. No way would we give them Roberts plys 2m.

It doesn't though, because it's a very short-term look at things. Beattie is probably on higher wages, he's certainly on a decent chunk having moved for 3.5 million. So we're talking about adding at least a 2 1/2 year contract at probably 30ishk a week to the wage bill for a player every one here would admit isn't good enough. Why even bother? Get whatever we can for Roberts from someone and then use that money towards a striker who is actually good.

One eddie, Beattie is poor, two his only strength is heading crosses, and three Rovers NO LONGER have anyone who can cross the ball from either wing, four, like you say he isnt on small wages either.

What planet is the manager and some of the fans on in wanting Beattie.

I could understand reinstating Duffer on the left wing this woud be excellent for the team but Beattie, no, nO, NO.

Why? Neither can score in a brothel! Also Beattie and Pullis have obviously burned their bridges. Pullis is after Carroll rather than Roberts and will want Beattie away from the squad and dressing room asap.

A no-brainer!

There that reads better now I've corrected it for you. All professional players live on Fantasy Island and all of em have their brains in their boots. Forget that stuff about Beattie being some sort of Prodigal Son ..... you'll only be disappointed.

You should take him at face value and only at that. He reckons that he is a striker so ... can he score goals for us? Yes or No?

On the Beattie Roberts swap, it seems like a no brainer to me. Beattie would love to play for us again and has more finishing ability than Roberts.

The one big plus with Beattie - HE'S A ROVER SUPPORTER.

Like so many of us fans he would sweat blood for the team whilst out on the pitch.

I's love to see Beattie back in a rovers shirt, I'm also sure JW could be persuaded he's one JW felt we should never have given away.

We are linked to Hutton, along with Everton.

How many right backs do we really need?

I saw the link too, thought we might be starting a right back museum.

You've hit the nail right on the head there - he is fairly decent in the air which is why we should do it. At least when Samba zipps the ball like a rocket towards the strikers Beattie will have half a chance of winning it. Hoofing it up to Roberts is just like giving them a goal kick. Big Sam's style suites Beattie's game more than it ever will Roberts'.

Can he score more than Roberts Theno? Yes or no?

I'd bet my house on yes.

I think Beattie would be a good signing for us right now. For everyones prejudices about Allardyce's tactics, we don't have a forward who can win a header.

I remember Beattie was a hell of a player when in his peak at Everton, and though he's probably past his pomp now he always manages to score a few goals.

Better than Roberts? A huge yes.

I see Nicko is stating that Di Santo's loan has been extended until the end of the season - is that fact? I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else on here.

The telewag reported that Rovers had extended Di Santos loan, plus Steven Reid extending his loan at QPR for a further month.

Taken from the telewag - When was this trial?!

Meanwhile, out-of-favour Rovers midfielder Elrio van Heerden could make a January switch to Sheffield United after a promising trial spell with the Blades.

The 26-year-old South African has not played a single minute of Premier League football since making a free transfer switch from Club Brugge in the summer.

After just two substitute appearances in the Carling Cup, van Heerden is now seeking a fresh move away to boost his chances of making South Africa’s squad for next year’s World Cup.

Although Rovers are not yet in serious discussions with Sheffield United over a potential move, they are expected to hear from the Championship side nearer to the January transfer window.

I'd take Beattie for Roberts. It would actually give us some presence up front (Di Santo isn't great for a 6'4"!) However, if we have to dig too deep into our pockets, I would rather we invested that money in a playmaker.
