G Somerset Rover Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Just spotted the Alan Hutton story was at the bottom of the Mirror story about Beattie-Roberts swap thing. Not guilty. Another right back. Sure. Also, I very much doubt we could even afford his left leg.
Hughesy Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 My Christmas wish. Bring back Duff, Bentley and Bellamy and (maybe Hughes too). Sign any free, young promising players. And we should be more than fine. Im sorry to break this to you....but Christmas wishes dont generally come true, and there is no Santa!!
T4E Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Just spotted the Alan Hutton story was at the bottom of the Mirror story about Beattie-Roberts swap thing. Not guilty. Another right back. Sure. Hutton story? I can't see that? We'll probably get him to play left back.
JAL Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 usual cynicism on this Board for a local Player. went to QEGS....cried his eyes out when Woy sold him, never scores against the Blue n White and would run like crazy for 'his' team. Dunny...get it sorted! And Message-boarders - remember Beatts may be reading this. " Get into 'em" Hes shyte, wasnt good enough 10 years ago, aint good enough now, what the ferk is wrong with everyone.
philipl Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 No he is not. Certainly hasn't looked after himself professionally but get him fit and motivated (and injury-free) and Beats could have a very useful indian summer at Ewood. Not saying much but I have always rated him ahead of JRob.
Billy Castell Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Beattie is better than Roberts. And that NOTW story is surely tripe. Where the hell we'd find £10m from I don't know.

Not saying much but I have always rated him ahead of JRob. Thoughts like these will definitely lower the standard of football on offer at Ewood Park. If thats your aim then fair enough, for me I want to see the standard raised. With a £45m wage bill and the incapacity to put the ball into the net with more regularity then the management of this club simply has to be brought into question.
John Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 And that NOTW story is surely tripe. Like the Hutton one today. Firstly we have plenty of right backs already and secondly the story said we would pay £4 million for him.

Beattie replacing JRob is an improvement surely?
JAL Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Beattie replacing JRob is an improvement surely? You tell us that Beattie hasnt looked after himself fitness wise - how professional is that? For me, your making an excuse for Beattie, when in fact, this is his true fitness level and he aint going to get any fitter, as much as we'd like to think otherwise. How old will young James be ? Whats has his last five year goalscoring record been like ? How much less does he earn a week compared to Jason Roberts ? I cant see any improvement in having Beattie here but thoroughly agree with offloading Jason Roberts.
Alan75 Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Beattie Record Years Team Apps† (Gls)† 1995–1998 Blackburn Rovers 4 (0) 1998–2004 Southampton 204 (68) 2005–2007 Everton 76 (13) 2007–2009 Sheffield United 62 (34) 2009– Stoke City 32 (9)
nicko Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Elrio van Heerden did not do too well on his Sheff U trial. However Sheff U seem keen to sign Mark Bunn for the rest of the season. There is a difference of opinion on a loan fee so that may take some time to sort out.

MeanGreenMachine Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 All this ###### potting about with Roberts and Beattie, does it really make much difference when we have a shocking midfield? Sam needs to be on the phone to spurs and asking how much for Jamie O'Hara, the lad has a sweet left foot, works his socks off and has balls (unlike alot of our team).
Alan75 Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Cheers Alan, how many of the Sheff United goals are in the premier league. None
Amo Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Didn't we offload Beattie AND Ripley as make-weights for the £7.25m Davies bonanza? Woy, oh Woy...
den Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Didn't we offload Beattie AND Ripley as make-weights for the £7.25m Davies bonanza? Woy, oh Woy... No, just Beattie - valued at £1m if I remember correctly.
JAL Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 None Cheers Al, I make it that James Beattie going off the last five years is, around 7 premier league goals a season man. Elrio van Heerden did not do too well on his Sheff U trial. Says it all about the lad and were hes at if Sheff United dont want him .
Iceman Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 I wonder who people would want, between Roberts and Beattie should they get a 1 on 1 chance with the keeper. Does that make sense? Im stil leaning towards a swap between Beattie and Roberts, and selling Benni, and then try and get Luca Toni in on a free.
Stuart Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Icers, what do you make of EVH being touted to Sheffield United? And even worse, apparently not impressing?
patrickvalery Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 James Beattie is not a target man. He has been employed as such twice to my knowledge and neither time worked. Firstly with Southampton alongside Phillips. Ala Quinn and Phillips from the Sunderland days. Didn't work. Secondly with Johnson at Everton. Didn't work. But thats not to say he is of no use to us. Far from it. Roberts isn't a conventional target man. He is there to act as a presence. A distruptive influence. The trouble is, when this works he can rarely produce the finishing touches required. Beattie can do that. Be under no illusions. The man is a complete arse. Living in Southampton i have had experience of seeing the man in his true colours. I have witnessed him in a gents club ordering a bottle of "the most expensive champagne" and proceeding to pour it over his head because he "can afford it". A friend of mine happened to be on the same correctional driving course (drink driving as i recall). He has nothing but contempt for the man. A cocky, over inflated ego @#/?. But this self assured persona. This big fish in a little pond environment is where he thrives. He did it at stoke, he did it at saints and he did it at sheff utd. Its where he feels top boy. Given some confidence and made to feel important he will score goals. I dislike the man. He is a typical modern day player. But i know, in the right frame of mind, he could score the goals to take us from lower mid table to top half security. If he's available on he cheap then the deal should be done.

Cheers PatrickValery, young James was offloaded by Rovers as he was nearly sent down for assult or GBH when some gobshtye smacked his girlfriend of the time down in Blackburn town centre, as James was in the toilet. When James met up with the lad in Darwen street James meeted out the punishment. Not that any of this has anything to do with his footballing ability but theres a good post by a poster on roversmad.co.uk by a bluebruce, comparing the merits of Roberts against Beattie.
roversnick Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 james beattie over jason roberts any day of the week for me perhaps beattie might hit the taqrget once a season - once more than roberts does.

Not to rain on your paragr Nick as I would like Beattie over Roberts too but doesn't Jason have more goals than our other strikers this season?
