[Archived] Sam's January Targets

Recommended Posts

Its what I have been sayinig for some time that big sam is happy with the team that he has, even if we are not

Absolute tosh of the highest order.

Look how often he changes who plays up front, look how often he's changed who plays in the wide midfield positions. He's not at all happy with those areas of the team, it's blindingly obvious.

The only reason he won't change it in January is if finances restrain him from doing so, not because he's happy with the team.

Also - this Ricardo Clark character is a CM and an international to boot. Sign him up!

I don't think Ricardo Clark has been linked with us, but rather just a move to England in general. I like Clark but he is a bit of a fringe player for the national team, though he has improved alot as of late.

Stu Holden is not injured atleast to my understanding, and we have supposedly offered him a four year deal.

SI article on Blackburn-Holden

Holden would be a free transfer as he has let his contract with Houston expire. (many MLS players do this because the MLS doesn't like to sell players, so if you want to move to Europe its easier as a free agent)

I think the same would apply to Ricardo Clark but I am not sure.

you might be right about it being absolute tosh, however he has stated at various times that he is happy with the squad that he has. Now he could be telling lies, but we can only go of what people say.

Please, never become a manager, if you think a football manager should go out to the press and state that their team is hopeless and all of them need replacing. He's talking about the 4 strikers we have, two of which look promising and two of which have very good qualities that they have not been using to their advantage. There's no use in Sam saying they're crap and we need replacement, but instead saying he needs them to do better and start performing and he's keeping his faith in them.

Your solution is to throw money at a problem, Sam is trying to inspire the players we have a problem with and work with them to improve them. I like that option more.

Ancelotti came out and said they won't be buying strikers and Sturridge and Baroni will be able to score goals. I wouldn't be happy with that as a Chelsea fan, but if Ancelotti makes them deliver then why not? Either way, Ancelotti has money at his disposal. Sam doesn't. So let's not jump on his ass for trying to make the best of a pretty poor situation.

I think all in all sam its going a good job bearing in mind he has not much money. However midfield is a problem and as yet he has been nothing about it.

Shouldhe go to the press and say his players are bad, NO. However hw should also not say that he think the jan window is a bad idea and that he is happy with his lot, if he is not, the best way is just to say nothing about it.

A Scottish born American citizen called Holden. He is talked about earlier in the thread, includng You Tube etc. A versatile player it seems.

Actually it was being discussed on Fox Football Phone in over here, the players himself was on and our name was brought up as one of only a few possibilities.

The January window is a bad idea so he's perfectly entitled to say it and it affects nothing if he does. He's not going to start moaning about his team because that way if we do make enquiries about players other teams think we are desperate and hike their prices accordingly. He can't say nothing because the press put presure on you to comment and if you say no comment then press and fans make of it what they will. Whatever he says and does there'll be someone on his back so he might as well put a brave face on it.

Another Holden article, seems to be a choice between MLS / Rovers / Rangers, and unless there are any latecomers to the party, you'd think we'd offer higher wages than Rangers...but we might have to sacrifice a player or two first.

We definitely should be looking more at MLS - hasn't worked out too poorly for Fulham. Even if you get a failure, like Eddie Johnson, it doesn't end up costing more than a million or so. They've had great success with McBride and Dempsey.

Would like to see Holden here, haven't seen much of him, but what I have has been positive. As for Clark, he's a pretty good player, but really will play the same role as Nzonzi or Grella (though my friend is a Metro Stars season ticket holder, where he used to play, and doesn't rate him).

Voronin and Babbel are seemingly surplus to requirements at Liverpool. Worth a cheeky loan request?

Voronin needs a barber shop. His wages are Liverpool class. They signed him free agent and probably offered him pretty nice pay check. Not a special player either. Excited about Holden. Hope we´ll get him.

I don't know anything about the lad, really, so I'll take nicko's word for it. Someone must have seen something in him though, maybe a run of games out of the United pressure cooker would do him good.

I've seen him in the United reserves twice. He is very, very ordinary. There are some questions being asked about why he was signed.

United pulled the plug on the double deal with Partizan Belgrade - involving the more promising and younger Ljajic - because they feel they have been 'done' with Tosic.

Nicko is the story about Amine Linganzi yours? It states in The Mirror that he WILL be our first signing of the January window, must have impressed then?

Those pranksters on Wikipedia even list him as our player.

And he's being linked to Chelsea and Spurs..... get the feeling he may be slightly out of our range.

I think there would be about 10-20 clubs in a better position to sign him than us but agree that he's a top player and one that we should be trying to get. He's a class act to be fair.

If you dont try, then you wont succeed. ;)

Not exactly targets but just a few players I'd like to see us go after in the area we need to strengthen the most.

Defence

Armand Traore - Arsenal's 3rd choice left-back but would walk into our teams at either left-back or left-midfield. Depends upon whether Clicky and Gibbs get back fit before the end of January. But worth a loan bid in my opinion.

Gareth Bale - Rarely gets a look in at Tottenham with the good form of Assou-Ekotto. Again another loan option who may be looking for first-team football. Again would eaisly walk into our first team at LB or LM.

Midfielder

Mark Noble - West Ham have great financial difficulties at the moment and will be looking to cash in on their rpized assets. Whilst Upson, Parket and Carlton Cole are regarded as their key players. I think Noble would be terrific signing, probably won't come cheap but if we can sell of some of our other unwanted players we could fund a deal.

David Bentley - A tremendous talent who's rotting away in the Tottenham reserves. You'd think he'd jump at the opportunity to get first team football somewhere. Can't see any of the top teams wanting him and surely he would favour a return to Ewood over another similiar Premiership club.

Adam Johnson - Young 'Boro winger would probably demand a biggish fee but he's just the sort of attacking winder we lack.

Damien Duff - Probably a bit of a long-shot but didn't I hear that Woy was after Andrews. Some sort of part-exchange deal please!
