If we want a worse player than Pedersen to give him competition then we already have Treacy - we don't need anyone else.

I don't think Liam Lawrence is worse at all. I think he is at the same level of ability as Pedersen and this would push one or the other to play better and therefore benefit us.

Just who is going to buy Diouf, Reid, Rigters, Zurab, Bunn/Brown for a decentish fee??

If I could tell you that then I would, but I don't know. Interested parties always crop up for most players. There'll be SOMEONE.

I would also add Treacy and Van Heerden to the list.

Claire im sure we could convince Coyley, that they would be great additions to the Dingle's squad.

Sam said after the game today we are not actively looking for any new players during the Jan transfer window. Said the squad have to find more goals from within - the window would be quiet for us as we have got so much going on.

Thank's for that Sam ! Now where did I leave that length of rope I've been saving.

An old school English Army officer many decades ago wrote a book titled, I think, "Strategy". His name was B. H. Liddell Hart. In his book, which I thought was brilliant, he advocated something called the "indirect approach." If you want to obtain a mission objective, you do not charge into the machine guns. He advocated concealing your true objective and convincing the enemy that you wanted something you did not. The enemy would waste/focus its resources attempting to prevent you from obtaining your apparent 'goal' while you could obliquely go about obtaining your true goal.

A simpler version is that I would not recommend believing everything Sam says. I translate his "we have to work with what we have statements" as an effort to misdirect, both our opponents and our prospective purchases. I'd bet Sam is doing the Arab in the fruit market routine, which is akin to saying that the orange is a very nice orange, but we haven't the pocket change to buy it and even if we did we don't really want it, when in reality we want to either drive down the price (if we really want the orange) or, alternatively, 'allow' ourselves to be talked into the nice apple instead (our true objective).

We need a midfielder or two. Sam has got to see that (I hope). Sam can't go on and on about how desperate our midfield is. If he did, he generate opposition to us acquiring a quality midfielder or drive up the price. So instead he moans about our striker woes and our lack of money. I trust/hope/believe/dream that his real objective is to improve the midfield. Fingers are crossed.

Sams hands are pretty much tied with transfers....

We have the injured quartet - Reid, Emerton, Dunn & Grella

Strikers unhappy - Roberts & possibly Benni (if not playing)

Players who might not be here beyond summer - Hoilett, Di Santo, Gamst

It is a pretty much a case of lets see what happens situation that the club finds itself in....Summer will bring a much clearer picture.

The current squad/ team is more than capable of reaching the planned position of 13th

An early 11 o'clocker [i want to see Man City come in for a half-time/full-time betting coup]...

BEATTIE...played today, doesn't look the answer to me, but that one will linger as an option for some time.

LAWRENCE...can't see that at all...he is well-liked there.

BEN ARFA...a lot of talk and there seems to have been an inquiry...I would imagine the player might look at his options.

MERIEM...still expected to return.

GUTI...on a huge salary...has also been approached by Besiktas but wants to come to the Premier League...he is Megson's first choice at Bolton, so they are probably favourites if the deal is right.

Are we the only premier league club interested in him?

Thats where the problem lies Chris. If its a wait and see situation, then we could be screwed. Roberts, Benni, Gamst etc could easily leave at midnight on deadline day. Unless Sam has set a deadline for when other teams, would be able to sign our players to avoid a last day scramble. I still believe Sam WILL sign a few players.

If the need for a quality winger and midfield player is not addressed this January imo we have a 50/50% chance of being relegated.

You cannot carry on selling players like Bentley and replace them with Diouf, and the evidence is our current problems of lack of creativity and chances for the strikers to score.

The trustees need to invest money in the team NOW,otherwise they gamble with our premiership future.ps where did the money from the sale of Warnock go ?.

An option for midfield could be much closer to home, Alan Judge was tremendous for Plymouth yesterday, scored twice, one a decent penalty and the second a near post header against Reading, got a rating of 9, Man of the Match and accolades from Manager Paul Mariner!!

Now I know he is small but looks to have the tenacity and passing ability to improve our midfield!!! And he wouldnt cost us a penny!

Players are sent on loan to see if they can push on, he is playing regularly in a struggling team and playing well, maybe this is one who has 'pushed on' I dont watch Plymouth but the newspapers are giving him top reviews!

He is unfortunately at the right level in the championship, and the EPL is just a step to big for him. I like him as a player, and would like to see him make it as a top quality premiership player.

Bolton are interested in Guti, does anyone think he would be worth getting on loan? Salgardo could be the key to this one, he could add to our poor midfield !

Id rather we stayed away from the golden oldies - its just a case of Salagado all over again.

Ben Arfa however would be an excellent signing!

I'd say 'Why not?' It's not like any of our current first-teamers are staking a claim.

The Point is Iceman is this, the lad appears to have pushed on, competing at a level even Andrews couldnt hack!!

He is only 21 and maybe he has gained confidence and belief in his ability now, others such as Treacy havent and with the quality we have in midfield at the moment, maybe its time for the lad to be given some kind of opportunity, his near post header was from a great little ghosted run into the box and he wasnt picked up, ok, maybe in the Prem they could have picked him up, but maybe not, he is playing in a team low on confidence and ran the show against a Reading side who were in the Prem 2 years ago!
