S15 Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Decent signing. Not worth a penny more than what we paid for him.
Eddie Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Givet - Good signing or not?! Iffy, I think he does his job but we overpaid. 3.5 million or whatever it was is a lot for a defender.
S15 Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 And once again, a highly insignificant point. Your really are so blinkered in your opinions, I'm not anti Allardyce, I'm just pointing out the painstakingly obvious. You choose not to see it, no idea why, but every club has a fan like you. (In response to hughesy)
Hughesy Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Its funny how times change - last season people were raving about him, now people are not so sure - fickle football fans!
S15 Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 No hughsey, this time last season you were raving about him. A core of supporters are always very level headed with their opinions, and they don't change easily. Givet is good. Not great, but good.
Athlete Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 The Sun says Di Santo has been extended. Why extend the loan of a non-entity player ??? 1 goal all season speaks for itself he flatters to decieve That means no more Prem loanees doesn't it? And just one loan move from elsewhere... So either Ben Arfa or Amine Kounda.
hi-jaq Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Hatem Ben Arfa, now thats an exciting signing!!! By the sounds of it, he may not be an unrealistic target. In my opinion, some of these 'Hot Head' type players, do well when they go to clubs that are a little out of the limelight. It helps them get on with just playing football, rather than trying to be a celebrity. This guy seems like a bit of a t**t, but I have no doubt that we would turn it round for him, given the chance. We did the same with Craig Bellamy & he had one of the best seasons he's ever had as a result of it. I think we would be a good move for this fella, and there is no doubting his qualities, we would help him & he would help us. Get him signed up... We will still need a central midfielder though, someone who will get the ball out wide for him to do his damage!!!

You went from Decent to Good in 4 minutes - beat that 1 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Oh and you just said Sam was good manager too!
S15 Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Decent signing. Good player. Two different things. It's like arguing with a five year old.
RevidgeBlue Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Imo Givet is excellent at centre back but not that great at left back. With hindsight he was obviously brought in at quite a high fee with a view to flogging Warnock on at a huge profit. We are much weaker with Givet at LB than Warnock imo.
Hi Mack Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Hatem Ben Arfa, now thats an exciting signing!!! By the sounds of it, he may not be an unrealistic target. We will still need a central midfielder though, someone who will get the ball out wide for him to do his damage!!! For Ben Afra see Jaoquin! We were linked, but never realistically had any chance of signing him. Beattie is our level of signing im afraid......we are desperately short of cash. Every incoming penny is monitored.
AggyBlue Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 I still can't believe this Ben Arfa interest, the lads a top top player and for the life of me I can't work out why he would want to come to lowly Blackburn when he could walk into most sides. I thought his agent was quoted as saying "He'll never play for Blackburn Rovers" No hughsey, this time last season you were raving about him. A core of supporters are always very level headed with their opinions, and they don't change easily. Givet is good. Not great, but good. He' good at full back but how many times have we seen him in his preferred position?
S15 Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 That's because he's not required there. Hence him only being a 'decent' signing.

Beattie is our level of signing im afraid......we are desperately short of cash. Every incoming penny is monitored. Can one not dream my dear fellow??? I like that we are linked, and also that in my opinion, it is defeinately possible as a loan, providing the player wants to join us. It would be good for both parties I think, it depends on the speculation being real, and the player being up for it... Otherwise, get Guti signed... midfield creativity (He's gotta be better than Keith Andrews!!!)
Steve Moss Posted December 29, 2009 Author Posted December 29, 2009 Iffy, I think he does his job but we overpaid. 3.5 million or whatever it was is a lot for a defender. Imo Givet is excellent at centre back but not that great at left back. I think Givet was a very good signing. First, he plays more than one position, and Sam is playing him out of his preferred position. Despite this he is doing well. Second, we have to keep in mind that Samba may move on (if he begins to think of "big" clubs) and/or Nelsen may not have what it takes next year or the year after. Givet gives us options in the event either two of those events arise, in addition to cover in the event of injury. So overall, I think he was a good bit of business. Hatem Ben Arfa, now thats an exciting signing!!! By the sounds of it, he may not be an unrealistic target. . . . Get him signed up... We will still need a central midfielder though, someone who will get the ball out wide for him to do his damage!!! One hundred percent agree. Replacing Ben Arfa with any two of Van Heerden, MGP or Treacy would be great business. One to fund the transfer fee (transfer the salary that would otherwise be paid to pay the loan to finance the fee) and the other to cover the wages.
Laurence Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 GIVE TUGAY HIS BOOTS BACK Sadly he wouldn't need them, he'd just be stood in the middle of the park watching the ball fly over his head
hi-jaq Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Sadly he wouldn't need them, he'd just be stood in the middle of the park watching the ball fly over his head Dont know whay that made me laugh... because it's sadly very true!!!
mellison24 Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Dont know whay that made me laugh... because it's sadly very true!!! I don't think it would be true. Tugay would give us a decent putlet to pass through the middle. Without Bert, Grella or Dunn, we have nothing creative there. Bert will run through the middle and create. Grella will more tackle but still has a decent pass on him. Dunn, we kinda need him methinks! Tugay: Nothing needs to be said.

mellison24 Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Please show me where I said 'Grella = creative'. I said he has a decent pass on him but will be more of a tackler. Simple. He is certainly more creative than Andrews is (imo). Grella is on a par with N'Zonzi in terms of how he affects matches when he plays, meaning I would prefer N'Zonzi over Grella any day (due to age). But Grella can pass a bit better than Andrews can and appears to play more adventurous (successful) passes than N'Zonzi does (although N'Zonzi is getting better and more confident with this). Ever heard of an 'opinion' JAL?

My interpretation is that you meant Grella was possibly creative, apoligies if i've misunderstood your post.

Just that he is more likely to create than who/what we are playing at the moment. Hell, I'd play Diouf in the middle ahead of Andrews, because he can at least keep the ball......briefly.
dillhallblue Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Is there going to be a late 11 o clocker Nicko ? Just anything to lift the doom & gloom !!!
RibbleValleyRover Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Is there going to be a late 11 o clocker Nicko ? Just anything to lift the doom & gloom !!! Check the Di Santo thread, there's a Nicko article there.
