[Archived] Sam's January Targets

Ok so if tonights reports are to be belived we could well lose Di Santo and Benni in January.

It's safe to assume Beattie may be a target but he is only at best a replacement for Roberts.

I wonder if any of that powder we always kept dry could appear to help us out.

We could easily recover from Benni, McCarthy and Di Santo going. Let's face it, they haven't exactly lit the world on fire. Kalinic could cover the few games it took to replace them by playing 1 up front (maybe a 4-4-1-1, with Hoilett behind Kalinic, if Dunn isn't healthy). And the replacements would only have to score a handful of goals to equal their performances to date. I can't imagine that would be an atrociously hard feat.

The Times' take on Rovers' January Transfer Window:-

Blackburn Rovers

Squad strength Eight matches without a win does not bode well. Lack of goals, like many lower Premier League teams, is hampering progress. If David Dunn does not stay fit, big problems loom.

New year wish list James Beattie may be ready to leave Stoke after a fallout with Tony Pulis. Stuart Holden, the Houston Dynamo midfield player, is a target, and Nadir Belhadj, of Portsmouth, would also be a welcome addition.

January realities After a summer splurge, Sam Allardyce’s wage budget has been reached. He will have to ship out the fringe squad members to create room to manoeuvre.

Budget £5-7 million ... only if Blackburn sell first.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot Morten Gamst Pedersen, Benni McCarthy, Jason Roberts and Elrio van Heerden could be on their way.

RUUD VAN NISTELROOY'S return to the Premier League is being hampered by his wages at Real Madrid.

The ex-Manchester United striker earns £87,500 a week, which is scaring Blackburn, although Liverpool are interested.

Transfer Digest and Links thread now open for the January window. I'll try to keep it up to date every day or so, depending on how much traffic there is on this thread

Please feel free to post any transfer-related links to that thread as well as this one, making sure to indicate the source. And, as usual, any comments or discussion regarding items posted in the digest thread should be put here or on a relevant thread.

Very welcome, den.

Personally, I hope it is quite an active window, as long as this means something positive is happening down at Ewood. I think 2 or 3 in/out for a mid-season window would represent a busy bit of business by any club's measure and I for one would be more than happy to see the likes of MGP and Jason Roberts replaced with a couple of decent footballers. Add a creative midfielder who can contribute from the word go and I'd be a happy bunny indeed.

January isn't the time for major surgery, but a touch of homeopathic treatment: one or two key acquisitions can alter the balance radically. A Mokoena (more psychopathic than homeopathic, but the effect was felt deeply - ask Robben) or a Nelsen type of acquisition in the attacking department could mean the difference between slugging out a draw and getting the victory to see us in the top half of the table. And it could mean the difference between our style of play being mainly long ball and being varied and unpredictable and, dare I say it, entertaining.

Nicko, do you think Megson´s sacking would make Klasnic available? There´s nothing connecting him to Ewood but certainly he would be a starter for us and several other clubs as well. And anything new on Hoilett? The guy is a regular at the moment and it MUST effect on his decicion whether stay or not. Thanks.

Bolton have paid a loan fee to have Klasnic for the season.
