I mentioned KP Boetang in summer and got laughed at, I think he's a good player and would certainly offer us more in midfield than what we have

I would not be opposed to bringing him in on loan. He has the ability to beat players, is creative and has some pace, which very few of our players have.

Happy New Year...

Owen had him lined up a month ago. That was why I was shocked at the Rovers link.

He was never going to go to Burnley for a few weeks in the hope of a deal if Rovers had offered him a four-year contract.

Still no idea if he is any good. But he sounds like a good type.

And a Scot at the World Cup finals against England? Just made my summer.

Do you have a link to Rovers being interested in Holden? If Pompey went out of business mid season, how would that effect points for other teams /relegation issues - would 3 teams still go down and would 4 come up? Are Rovers interested in any of their players?

Easy to say now but if we'd signed Klasnic with a set fee for next season if it worked out, Di Santo on loan and 2 youngish and definately fit mid-fielders for 3M each, we would be flying now.Oh--and no Salgado would have left us money for 2 loan options in January if needed and selling Andrews to Fulham for anything we could get to Fulham would have given us even more options. . I've defended Sam a lot and still want him to have the time to build us up but that would have been the better way to go.

Klasnic is 30 in a couple of weeks. He would have been great for a loan this season but I prefer Kalinic as a long term option. He is young and I believe he will prove a great signing.

I've no idea how much Salgado or Andrews are earning. They are both half decent squad players but I would hope not among our biggest earners. We do need a midfield player who can give us some of what Tugay used to provide, and I'm sure Sam knows that - he always had players like that at Bolton, who played a lot more football than most gave them credit for under his management. I didn't see Campo, Hierro, Okocha etc lumping it forward too often.

I think the fans need to be a bit patient. Let's give Sam credit for bringing in NZonzi and Kalinic, as well as Chimbonda, who has been excellent. The team needs Dunn back or a signing to play when he is injured. Hoilett, Kalinic and Di Santo are all looking promising, and I think we are going in the right direction. We looked good a few weeks ago, but have been set back by the loss of Dunn.

Nicko, can you confirm the Kevin-Prince Boateng rumours?

New to me. But everyone is picking at the Portsmouth carcass.

I heard Belhadj was the preferred one for Rovers but that was only if MGP left.

News of the World wrote it two weeks ago...and picked up from there.

If Portsmouth go into admin they just lose the points [9] and will be even more certain to go down. They won't go totally bust.

We have got an interest in Stuart Holden, interesting to see where he ends up....

Brad could influence, as to where he ends up in som sort of way... not directly, but he might fancy us more than Burnley based on our history and reputation.

Nicko anything in the Dindane to Rovers rumour? Ive heard this going around from a few Ivorian journalists, who also mentioned the Lens report to Fifa and Uefa about not receiving the amonunts owed to them.

I bloody hope not. We've got enough donkey strikers as it is without adding to the collection!

i cringed at the thought as well Claire... Its just something i heard, as there are few other Pompey players who was mentioned in the same sentence as Rovers. Belhadj was one, and a bit strange but Jamie O Hara was also mentioned, although he aint Pompey's player.

I cannot see Sam not buying anybody, or selling anybody based on his criticism of the team, and lack of goals. If he was really happy then i could understand him not needing to buy, but he clearly is not happy. He will have had a word with JW, and ive no doubts that he has discussed a few potential targets.

Nicko, whats the situation on Linganzi?

I know they were trying to sort out figures last week. I can't imagine it won't be done because it's not much money.

I also hear Meriem is coming, but he is starting to strike me as a footballer version of dear old Dan Williams...he's always about to arrive but never quite checks in.

Yeah get Boyd and Didane and then we'd have the front and back to our big donkey.

Difference being Boyd score goals and donkeys don't - he cannot be that bad if macleash at birmingham are interested in him.

What ever happened to dear old Dan Williams. All of a sudden he dropped out of all media attention.

I once spent a month at Rangers and banged 6 or 7 goals in.

McLeash is the messiah all of a sudden is he? I've seen hundreds of managers get promoted, carry the form on for a bit and eventually get found out and fall down the football ladder.

He'll find George Burley and Stevie Coppell on his way down.

I thought we were no longer interested in Meriem, as he failed a fitness test.

Meriem had a fitness problem because of an injury.

But he is clear of that now - hopefully - and is wanted back for another look.

To be fair, he must be looking all right in other ways or there would not be the continuted interest.

Boatang, Belhadj, Meriam in; MGP, Andrews, Diouf out would suit me.

If Ben Arfa turns up that would be great but doesn't sound plausible.

I'll still be quite surprised if there's much activity either way this month.

I don't think there'll be anyone coming in without departures and if you were a Premiership Club would you be busting a gut to pay money for the players you mention above?

I don't think EHD is going anywhere. He's acknowledged a need to pick up the pace and Sam is on record recently opining that he knows how to get the best out of EHD.

I think MGP is the most likely to go. He's gone in a few months anyway, might as well get a (small) fee and finance a decent attacking midfielder. Boateng, Belhadj or Ben Arfa (most especially) would all be more than acceptable (in comparison).

I think it is not impossible to shift MGP and Andrews if we sell for lowish fees. Difficult but not impossible. Diouf might be more tircky because he will be on larger wages and has been exceptionally poor recently.

I agree it will realistically be extremely unlikely we will have 3 out and 3 in. However I would also like, while we are speculating, like Roberts to leave and Beattie to come in.
