PAFELL Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Probably. Daily Mail: "Celtic are interested in Blackburn striker Benni McCarthy, who would be allowed to leave Ewood Park for £2.5m." I'd rather we kept Benni, but I can't see him staying after both Sam and Benni's recent comments. If we can offload a couple of our other fringe players, I'd love to see us bring in both Boateng and Belhadj. What is the point of signing a player - Boateng - who would not be allowed to play?

Lurid Coat Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 What is the point of signing a player - Boateng - who would not be allowed to play? Somehow I don't think we'd make an enquiry about his availability if we didn't believe that there is a way around this. If we made an enquiry in the first place, that is.
budha Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Is the rule "no more than 2 clubs in.." I) a season (2009-2010) or II) a calendar year (2009, 2010)?

I am pretty sure that if we sold Benni we would have to bring in a strker which presumably would take up most of the cash. If we are buying midfielders thne you would presume that if we need to shift it will be midfielders who have to go.
magicalmortensleftpeg Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 If we could offload Benni and bring in Boateng then id be happy. the problem we have isnt the quality of striker but a lack of decent service and creativity from midfield. Boateng would certainly bring that.
owenrilla Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Is the rule "no more than 2 clubs in.." I) a season (2009-2010) or II) a calendar year (2009, 2010)? Players may be registered with a maximum of three clubs during oneseason. During this period, the player is only eligible to play offi cial matches for two clubs. As an exception to this rule, a player moving between two clubs belonging to associations with overlapping seasons (i.e. start of the season in summer/autumn as opposed to winter/spring) may be eligible to play in offi cial matches for a third club during the relevant season, provided he has fully complied with his contractual obligations towards his previous clubs. Equally, the provisions relating to the registration periods (article 6) as well as to the minimum length of a contract (article 18 paragraph 2) must be respected. From P12 of: FIFA's Regulations on the status and transfer of players
DeadlyDirk Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 If we do want to sign Boateng it won't be a problem getting an appeal I'm sure. Pompey are in about as much financial trouble as you can get where several first team players (Including Boateng) are not even getting paid and several clubs are owed money in transfer fees. FIFA or whoever makes the decision are almost certainly would allow the move when it's in the best interest of all 3 parties not to mention enabling them to pay wages to their current players as well as outstanding transfer fees that they still owe to the other clubs.
67splitscreen Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 I must have missed something here. If the rule is within a given season, surely official games don't include preseason friendlies, why do we need to appeal. His last game for Spuds was preseason against Doncaster, then moved in the window 28th Aug My questions are. When does the season start officially for UEFA/FIFA. Premier league official start date was 15th Aug. Are friendlies/preseason official games.
RoyRover Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 WE-DONT-HAVE-A-POT-TO-P1SS-IN...... Never mind making a bid for Klasnic! We sell Benni. We buy Klasnic for the £1.5 million that Nantes want for him.
67splitscreen Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 We sell Benni. We buy Klasnic for the £1.5 million that Nantes want for him. Did Nicko not say that Bolton payed a loan fee for Klasnic until the end of the season. If that is the case then we can forget him.

67splitscreen Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 The Doncaster-game was a Carling Cup -game. Ok thanks. Guess any appeal would be based on 31 minutes of a Carling Cup game then.
FourLaneBlue Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 WE-DONT-HAVE-A-POT-TO-P1SS-IN...... ...and even if we did...we would have to make a decision whether we could afford to buy it premanently at the end of the season or whether to send it back to its owners!
LeChuck Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 We sell Benni. We buy Klasnic for the £1.5 million that Nantes want for him. It's impossible. Bolton paid £1.3 million or something to have him for the year. I'd imagine that also bought them the privilege of first option too.
RevidgeBlue Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Probably. Daily Mail: "Celtic are interested in Blackburn striker Benni McCarthy, who would be allowed to leave Ewood Park for £2.5m." It is looking increasingly likely that McCarthy will be sold but if we did sell him would Sam be allowed to spend the full 2.5m? And even if he was, who is out there for 2.5m who is better than McCarthy?
Muddboy Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Jobi McAnuff anyone? He looked pretty tasty for Reading on the right tonight. Prepared to take his man on, decent crosser and wouldn't be expensive... Just a thought...
Fylde Coast Fan Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Benni's age is a factor. £2.5m for a 32 year old isn't bad, but I agree we won't replace him well for that money.
S15 Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 He's only 31? That would be an amazing signing. Actually, people keep asking ''If we sold McCarthy who could we get who's as good/better with the money we'd get.'' Question answered.
patrickvalery Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Quality player. Agreed. He would look good behind Kalinic.

Also Pratley of Swansea seems to know where the goals are though I don't see enough of him to know about his general play.
andyroversmad Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Eidur is a quality player but he's wages would be massive, im sure at least double what Benni earns.
nicko Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Any news Nicko? Eidur is available but his wages are silly - and he looks past his sell-by date.
