Probably.

Daily Mail: "Celtic are interested in Blackburn striker Benni McCarthy, who would be allowed to leave Ewood Park for £2.5m."

I'd rather we kept Benni, but I can't see him staying after both Sam and Benni's recent comments. If we can offload a couple of our other fringe players, I'd love to see us bring in both Boateng and Belhadj.

What is the point of signing a player - Boateng - who would not be allowed to play?

Somehow I don't think we'd make an enquiry about his availability if we didn't believe that there is a way around this. If we made an enquiry in the first place, that is.

Hmm. I am pretty sure that if we sold Benni we would have to bring in a strker which presumably would take up most of the cash.

If we are buying midfielders thne you would presume that if we need to shift it will be midfielders who have to go.

Is the rule "no more than 2 clubs in.." I) a season (2009-2010) or II) a calendar year (2009, 2010)?

Players may be registered with a maximum of three clubs during one

season. During this period, the player is only eligible to play offi cial matches

for two clubs. As an exception to this rule, a player moving between two clubs

belonging to associations with overlapping seasons (i.e. start of the season in

summer/autumn as opposed to winter/spring) may be eligible to play in offi cial

matches for a third club during the relevant season, provided he has fully

complied with his contractual obligations towards his previous clubs. Equally,

the provisions relating to the registration periods (article 6) as well as to the

minimum length of a contract (article 18 paragraph 2) must be respected.

From P12 of:

FIFA's Regulations on the status and transfer of players

If we do want to sign Boateng it won't be a problem getting an appeal I'm sure. Pompey are in about as much financial trouble as you can get where several first team players (Including Boateng) are not even getting paid and several clubs are owed money in transfer fees.

FIFA or whoever makes the decision are almost certainly would allow the move when it's in the best interest of all 3 parties not to mention enabling them to pay wages to their current players as well as outstanding transfer fees that they still owe to the other clubs.

I must have missed something here.

If the rule is within a given season, surely official games don't include preseason friendlies, why do we need to appeal.

His last game for Spuds was preseason against Doncaster, then moved in the window 28th Aug

My questions are.

When does the season start officially for UEFA/FIFA. Premier league official start date was 15th Aug.

Are friendlies/preseason official games.

The Doncaster-game was a Carling Cup -game.

We sell Benni. We buy Klasnic for the £1.5 million that Nantes want for him.

It's impossible. Bolton paid £1.3 million or something to have him for the year. I'd imagine that also bought them the privilege of first option too.

It is looking increasingly likely that McCarthy will be sold but if we did sell him would Sam be allowed to spend the full 2.5m?

And even if he was, who is out there for 2.5m who is better than McCarthy?

Jobi McAnuff anyone?

He looked pretty tasty for Reading on the right tonight. Prepared to take his man on, decent crosser and wouldn't be expensive...

Just a thought...

Yep---agree with that. Also Pratley of Swansea seems to know where the goals are though I don't see enough of him to know about his general play.
