[Archived] Sam's January Targets

Gamst was the one that gave us a chance against Villa last time out, he looks like he is improving so give him the spring and then let him go or tie him up. After Dunn he is the only one that can unlock defences right now in our squad.

What?! Are you serious?

Too much of a risk in my opinion, his contract runs out in the summer where he can leave on a free. Best to sell in January for a few quid and save some money on wages. We have come to the point where its best for both parties that we just move on.

This can surely only happen if Allardyce has a quality left winger lined up ?

Ideally yes, though i believe we could survive until the summer to replace him. Hoilett, Diouf (doubtful he is going anywhere soon) or maybe Olsson could do a job on that left wing.

I just think if an opportunity arises where we can sell him for a few quid in January but more importantly get a big earner off the wage bill sooner rather than later we should take it.

You must still be drunk, from all the festivities. MGP creative? Are you having a laugh?

I'm going to say that Pedersen for how poor hes been this ,STILL, offers more to the 1st team than any of the three players you mention RibbleValleyRover. Because of this situation, we really should be supporting another quality left sided player coming in to replace him. To rely on the others is very scary.

Both Hoilett and Olsson arent left wingers. They are square pegs in round holes.

I've been a big fan of his in the past but frankly he's been rubbish for 2 to 3 years now. He's had his chance for me and he's been happy to be a passenger for too long.

Pedersen has only really been effective a handful of times this season and with no consistency. He plays a reasonably effective game then goes back to what we have seen for the last 3 seasons. He may offer more than those players i listed on the times where he is showing a bit of form, but when he is his usual inept self i don't think he offers much if anything more than those listed. I would like to see Olsson given a go on the left wing, he has pace and energy to get up that left flank and from what i've seen his delivery wasn't that bad on the ocassions i've seen him cross it. He looks like he might be more of a winger than a fullback/wingback. Also (i might be wrong) i'm pretty sure Olsson played for Sweden in some under-21 tournament as a left winger and played really well.

I'm sorry but if i was the manager and an offer comes in to take this £40k+ per week player off my hands and even better for a fee i would definitely take it. Better to take what we can now and save the wages then pay him another £40k+ per week for another 4-5 months and let him go on a free.

Although not very creative, I think Peders is at least slightly more creative than say Andrews, Nzonzi, Emerton, Grella, Diouf, Reid, Salgado etc. This is, of course, a very sad reflection on our current set of midfielders, so unless we pick up a creative midfielder in January I would think keeping him might be a good idea until the summer when we can properly look at our options.

it doesnt matter what we think of pedersen or what he has done in the past , what matters is what BFS thinks of him and lets be honest what has MGP done while allardyce is in charge? i am sure he'll be gone

Olsson is more suited to being an attacking full back rather than a left winger. Hes a good prospect but playing him further forward is a risk.

Pedersen has shown us he can cross, score, head the ball, track back, and take quality set piece free kicks. Olsson doesnt come up to this level in an attacking sense, which is vital to the teams success. Same with Junior, hes showed plenty of pace but is yet to show us he can score goals, aswell as head, take free kicks, and track back.

Diouf we dont have to waste our time on him, do we.

Rovers seriously need a replacement if MGP is to leave RVR otherwise the results are in serious jepordy.

playing him at all is a bigger risk. he may not be a winger but he is definitely not a defender.

wish it was true............but starting a story with a "fans mates son", tells me to keep on dreaming

Perhaps it works like with teachers. If you can't get to the school you work at you're supposed to report to the nearest school in order to make sure you get paid!

No, I agree with 1995. Playing him in DEFENCE is a risk, because we will ship goals doing that. I do feel he could do better than Pedersen on the left wing, with an extended run. He is more dynamic. Pedersen is only potentially any use if he receives the ball in acres of space. Olsson is a defensive liability. As for goals...Pedersen has hardly been prolific in that regard for the last two years, eh? He might be capable, but he certainly isn't actually doing it. Olsson managed a goal against Everton last year, despite getting far less game time in general than Pedersen does. And it wasn't a tap-in like Gamst's only goal last season. He actually beat men and struck it well.

Hes a young lad Brfc1995, so hopefully he can improve to become a regular first teamer and with it a regular International spot for Sweden. We can but hope but to throw him in now would be a huge risk when you consider the weaknesses in the rest of the team.

The timing has to be right for young Martin Olsson, is it now, I wouldnt like to say it is.

Taken from the transfer thread :-

Andwele Slory

Thanks to riggers77 for his link in the above post: Feyenoord forward Andwele Slory is in talks with the Rovers, according to his agent.

Soccernet, 5 January 2010

Blackburn open talks to sign Feyenoord forward Andwele Slory

Spookily enough, and I see this as an omen, I signed this guy on Championship Manager two 'seasons' ago and he's scored a shed load of goals from midfield and either wing. In fact, 2009-2010 season, with him in the team, I won the UEFA Cup..............and he scored the winning goal. I'd never even heard of him before.......and now this.

I'll get my coat.

Finally... We have seen the light!!!

I said, on this site about 18 months ago, that Olsson would make a better winger than a full back & one person agreed with me the rest shot me down!!!

Olsson needs a run playing further forward, he has pace & thus at least stands a chance of beating his man (as shown in that game against Everton, where I think he beat 2 men & scored!!!).

When was the last time you saw a player for us, who could beat his man, get to the byline & play a little pull back in to the on-rushing striker for him to rifle home... My only thought here is Damien Duff... How long ago was that??? How many goals did we score as a result???

Olsson seems a little bit of a liability at the back sometimes, at his age he should be defending better. So we push him forward see what happens, it either works or it does'nt, but I reckon he could be a cheap answer to our issues on the left wing.

If he does'nt get a chance we will never know, but I'd be happy with, Olsson on the left & Hoilett on the right, 2 young hungry wingers, playing on their natural sides, both with pace... Sounds like a plan to me!!!
