Finally... We have seen the light!!!

I said, on this site about 18 months ago, that Olsson would make a better winger than a full back & one person agreed with me the rest shot me down!!!

Olsson needs a run playing further forward, he has pace & thus at least stands a chance of beating his man (as shown in that game against Everton, where I think he beat 2 men & scored!!!).

When was the last time you saw a player for us, who could beat his man, get to the byline & play a little pull back in to the on-rushing striker for him to rifle home... My only thought here is Damien Duff... How long ago was that??? How many goals did we score as a result???

Olsson seems a little bit of a liability at the back sometimes, at his age he should be defending better. So we push him forward see what happens, it either works or it does'nt, but I reckon he could be a cheap answer to our issues on the left wing.

If he does'nt get a chance we will never know, but I'd be happy with, Olsson on the left & Hoilett on the right, 2 young hungry wingers, playing on their natural sides, both with pace... Sounds like a plan to me!!!

Hoilett isnt a winger and more importantly DOESNT WANT TO BE A WINGER !

The last time someone beat their man was IN THE LAST HOME GAME I think against Sunderland, when Morten Gamst Pedersen beat two players and hit it into the botom corner.

Taken from the transfer thread :-

Andwele Slory

Thanks to riggers77 for his link in the above post: Feyenoord forward Andwele Slory is in talks with the Rovers, according to his agent.

Soccernet, 5 January 2010

Blackburn open talks to sign Feyenoord forward Andwele Slory

Spookily enough, and I see this as an omen, I signed this guy on Championship Manager two 'seasons' ago and he's scored a shed load of goals from midfield and either wing. In fact, 2009-2010 season, with him in the team, I won the UEFA Cup..............and he scored the winning goal. I'd never even heard of him before.......and now this.

I'll get my coat.

:wstu:

Accyrover

(Had too much 'Xmas Cheer')

To be honest, ive never heard of Slory either. Im a big follower of football, but his name does not ring a bell. Hopefully, he turns out to be a good signing should the deal go ahead. Add Linganzi and Meriem and we could be better off, i hope.

He only beat his man because his man SLIPPED... your not seriously saying that Pedersen does this on a regular basis... If you are then, are we talking about the same person here???

How do we know that Hoilett doesnt want to be a winger... Have we asked him??? Because he seems more effective there, as whenever he gets into a shooting opportunity (apart from when he scored from point blank range) his shooting is attrocious, maybe I'm wrong???

And fair enough John, perhaps "SEEN THE LIGHT" was a little over the top, but I would like to see us try & pull some of these youngsters through, after all the other players in front of them are'nt doing much going forward... I say give them a chance... Get a creative midfielder & a striker who knows where the net is!!!

Precisely like with Olsson, I couldn't give a monkey's cuss what Hoilett started out as or wants to be. He very very clearly isn't a good striker, as his finishing stinks. If he wants a big future in the game, it can only come on the wing. Hopefully he recognises this and signs that damned contract, because there's a lot of potential in him on the flank. I see many of the attributes Lennon used to have before he started developing his overall game more.

One of the issues mentioned on here about Hoilett not signing a contract was that he does not see himself as winger. The first Sunderland player slipped but the second one didnt.

No, Pedersen doesnt do these things on regular basis but neither does Olsson. If both these youngsters had offered a little bit more then i'm sure they'd be playing regularly at the moment doubts still remain.

Doubts will always remain, until we have seen Olsson play further forward, as yet he's only ever played full back for us. He may turn out to be complete bobbins, but unless they let him have a crack at it, no one will ever know. Given a run he will have the beating of his man more often than Pedersen does, I'm sure of it!!!

Also... If Hoilett thinks he's an out & out striker, and wont sign a new contract because we want him to play out wide, then fair enough... he's a spoon!!!

"Blackburn Rovers have expressed an interest in Andwélé Slory, the striker who is out of contract at Feyenoord this summer. He has scored four goals in 13 league appearances this season."

Spoken to a friend of mine here who knows his stuff (yes I am ready for the insults) and he though Meriem would be good and had deserved his tag of the "new Zidane". Isn't going to be a world beater, but could do a job and add a creative spark.

Are we allowed 2 EPL loanees? I thought we were only allowed one but I was contradicted on this point. Clarification would be helpful.

If I were SAF, I would be offering some youngsters on loan to clubs like the Rovers. If only to increase the competivness on Rovers and similar clubs against ManC during the cup matches.

You are allowed two loans from different premiership teams. So we have Di Santo (chelsea) which means we could get a player from any other team besides chelsea and he would still be eligible to play.

Dos Santos from Spurs please.

This is taken from the BBC:

Money to spend: Manager Sam Allardyce will have to sell first in order to buy and if he does that he could have around £7m available. However, he has revealed he unlikely to make any moves for new players during the January transfer window.

January previous: Allardyce brought in striker El-Hadji Diouf from Sunderland while defender Gael Givet arrived on loan from Marseille.

What they need: A lack of goals is hitting Rovers hard so Allardyce may go in search of a striker.

Who they might buy: Stoke's James Beattie has been mentioned, while Portsmouth defender Nadir Belhadj and Houston Dynamo midfielder Stuart Holden is also a possibility. The club have also been linked with a loan move for Marseille midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa.

Who might be leaving: Striker Benni McCarthy wants away and getting the South African off the wage bill will free up some much-needed funds. Fellow striker Jason Roberts and midfielder Morten Gamst Pedersen could also be leaving Ewood Park.

What the fans say: "Our form over the festive season has reinforced everyone's belief that Big Sam needs to bring in a few fresh faces in the transfer window."

Its the first part I don't understand. We sell one player and magically get £7 million to spend??

Perhaps we have some funds left over from the Summer but need to shift more of the wage bill to allow us to add a player. I would hope that is the case. It should be considering how much we have brought in from sales over the last 2 years...
