[Archived] Sam's January Targets

Recommended Posts

Dont forget to factor in his £1.5 to possibly £2m a year wages for a lad who wasnt good enough ten years ago.

Looks like Rovers have well and truly lost their way.

i keep seeing this posted by a few in this thread, 10 years is a bloody long time, and hes a better player now than he was back then

JAL you're great, I love the way you absolutely go off your rocker, no messing about. A bit premature to be honest!

1) It's just speculation at present

2) Even if there is some truth in the story, there is absolutely no chance we are going to pay 2.5m for a 31 year old striker who is out of favour at his club, especially when we current have 0 pounds to spend. IF ROVERS SELL BENNIE WHO IS A YEAR OLDER THAN BEATTIE WE WANT MORE THAN 2.5 MILLION

My guess is we will buy for whatever roughly we sell Roberts for. Probably around a million? If it even happens at all.

The one scenrio which would scare me would be selling Benni for 2.5m and bringing in Beattie for the same, but I just can't see that happening. It is too ridiculous.

Your having a laugh dazmaz, Beattie is coming to the end of his wonderful career, not his peak, which was probably way back during his Southampton days.

Any chance you can repeat that JAL?

As for Beattie - he would be an improvement on Roberts and would offer us more, however id hate to see Benni leave for £2.5m & be replaced by Beattie for the same.

Also Beattie is not worth £2.5m as damaged goods

I would have thought the ONLY thing holding that back would be the fact Sam has yet to receive any offers for Benni!

Diouf, Davies (I know we didn't sign him), Chimbonda (he seems a like a good signing) and now Beattie.

Does Sam actually hate me? He seems to make a point of trying to sign people I really don't like

Quality post Bucky ! made me laugh this post, dont worry, your not on your own here.

You begin to ask yourself does big Sam dislike us.

If some nutbar is going to offer that to us, in the context of only six months till the end of his deal, then we should take it. However that does not mean we are going to be equally daft and offer that for Beattie.

There is a chance I could be wrong. I though the Andrews deal was too ridiculous to happen but it did. But I was hoping that was just down to Ince. And I didn't see the RSC 17m fee being reached (which seems epically bad judgement by Hughes by the way). But largely I am confident that we won't be paying that sort of money, even if we sell Benni.

Whatever the measure, paying 2.5m for a reasonably average 31 year old striker is just not teneble for us in the financial position we find ourselves.

edit - If we can get 1.8m for Pedersen that strikes me as a pretty decent deal considering he only has six months left. With his age etc. I think there is a decnt chance the Greeks will meet that.

Hughesy's offer to Johnson is a decent idea, however you have to guess Spurs and Everton will get in there and make it very difficult for us to be competitive.

Benni has more than 6 months (or are you quoting a Benni post but talking about Gamst?)

As for Competitive - £1m signing on fee + say £30k wages to start wont be a bad offer.

I think the window is just about to open...

Sunderland to sign Kevin Kurannyi from Schalke for a slightly over-the-top fee.

Sunderland to sell Kenwyne Jones. Stoke and Birmingham in strong already.

Stoke to shunt out Beattie even quicker if they win that race...this is where Rovers come in.

Sunderland to spend the rest of the cash on Adam Johnson if they can, Maynor Figueroa possibly and keeper Kieran Westwood.

Johnson will go...Middlesbroguh want dosh for at least three Celtic players...but there could be other bidders.

Wolves trying to sign Hunt from Hull...who want rid of everything apart from Bullard.

Olympiacos keen on MGP. But I was scooped by myself on that one.

Coyley's garden is clear of snow. Thanks for asking.

Cheers Nicko... Why do I feel disappointed though???

I think it's because, we're linked with one of the crappest players in that list, if that was to happen, it would just seem to me me as though we are getting the dreggs of everyone elses business, I know we have no money... but still, I'ts not like we are going for someone exciting, who's going to turn our season around, I dont mind Beattie, he's just going to be disappointing.

Lordy, lordy.

How very depressing.

Hopefully there will be a twist and all of that won't happen.

My fingers are crossed...
