You may disagree but we can only sign who is affordable and available. Do you think Roberts will improve? Do you think he's start banging the goals in? I think not. There is a far better chance of Beattie coming in and getting into double figures in the back half of the season for the club he supports.

James 'no pace' Beattie, will score more, HOW ! when you study the dynamics of our Blackburn Rovers first team, HOW on earth is Beattie going to score.

Somebody posts a championship video of Beattie scroing a goal, well for me thats just were Rovers will have to be for Beattie to flourish.

Some extremly dangerous opinions on here about James Beattie and this rubbish about him being a Rovers fan so he'll give more for the team what utter drivel. If Rovers have sunk this far, then it looks only a matter of time before they fall through the trap door to the championship claiming the reason was they had NO money - what a laugh, when players and managers were earning between one and two million pounds a year.

Allardyce, Williams and the rest want a rocket up their arse.

Finger in the Dyke time. Get's us nowhere. Reminds me of John Radford.

Not over the moon myself, but what else can the manager do without any backing from the Board?

That said Salgado must be one of the worst signings we've ever made in terms of value for money.

It's as if there's something personal between you and Beattie... I wrote there is a CHANCE Beattie could come in and score goals, you can't argue with that as he is a Premier League striker !!!

Our opinions are not dangerous but optimistic. Replacing Roberts with a similar player but a local lad who supports the club sounds a good deal to me. IMO Roberts brings nothing to the team. My opinion, end of.

Maybe you would prefer us to break the bank? Get into so much debt that the administrators take over and before we know it we are in League 1? Ask Leeds fans, good management of the club is what is needed.

I'd like you to name alternative forwards that we could realistically sign in the transfer window as it seems at least one striker will be leaving.

I guess one thing that has become a fact now is that selling "never-going-to-be-a-starter" Derbyshire and bringing in Di Santo and Kalinic is one of the worst decisions we've made in a long time?

Well, not "we", as I certainly did not agree with BFS's decision.

Both Kalinic and Di Santo have much more potential than Derbyshire. Either of those two could develop into a player we could rely on, Derbyshire will never manage that. I'm a big Allardyce critic, but selling Derbyshire was the right thing to do.

But Derbs hasn't played since leaving for Greece!

Yeah lets unearth another gem! Why the hell did no one else think of that

Ok smart arse - lets go out and buy Pato then!

We have little money, my point is that rather than wasting it on older players, id rather our scouting network found us a bargain - they seem good at it and im sure they could find something if given time.

Derbyshire was sacrificed to bring Diouf in, who had a temporary impact but who now looks an expensive millstone round the Club's neck.

RSC was the one "replaced" by Di Santo and Kalinic.

Incidentally re Derbs: as I understand it he had to have surgery on a hernia which didn't go to plan and he had to come back to this Country just before Christmas for a 2nd opinion.

That's why he hasn't been playing.

If had derbyshire has stayed - we would have Kalinic, Roberts, McCarthy & Derbyshire. We would of got no games what-so-ever out of Derbs so far, instead we have Di Santo who has been fit all season - so how is it the worst decision we have made for a long-time?

Derbyshire is & will never be good enough - GET OVER IT!

Yes, but there was no way of knowing he would suffer that injury when we sold him. The point I was making was it's unfair to argue he's no good on the basis he hasn't been picked this season, because he's been injured.

I'd agree it's debatable whether Derbyshire is Premier League standard but thus far he's made far more impact in the Prem than Di Santo or Kalinic.

I thought Radford did ok for us!

Unless my memory is now failing me!

I suppose that depends on how you look at it Rev.....if you were expecting (as I was) an exciting and highly experienced ex-Arsenal goalscorer that was going to be the answer to all our problems, then it was indeed a debacle.

If however you were seeing him as a once great goalscorer, but now well past his sell-by date, and just looking for one last pay day, then you would not be disappointed, as that is what we got. He may have looked OK playing in the lower reaches of the 2nd div, and desparately trying to avoid relegation, but the gamble certainly didn't work. We finished bottom of div 2 that year.

I seem to remember him being outstanding and scoring 2 on his debut in a thrilling 4-2 win. (v Oldham?)

Thereafter you may be right Den and Fife and I didn't see him in many away games and he may have disappointed although my over-riding impression of him after all these years is that he still had a lot more quality about him than the rest of our team at the time.

Hopefully that happens while we're still in the Premiership. Because right now they are both far from that assesment. Derbyshire at least scored goals and won us points, something we have lacked this season.

No, I have nothing personal against Beattie, non whatsoever, except for him playing for the Rovers at this LATE stage in his career. The team is so weak we cant afford to weaken it further.

Beattie a premier league striker, at this stage of his career is highly debatable and one that I would strongly disagree with.

Jason Roberts OFFERS as much as James Beattie does at this point in their respective careers. So there you are, EQUAL, but what do Rovers get if this was a swap = nothing different at all except a missed opportunity to improve the future.

Thats what I see in Rovers signing James Beattie, nothing different at all, except A MISSED OPPORTUNITY TO IMPROVE THE FUTURE OF BLACKBURN ROVERS FOOTBALL CLUB.

There you go, he's a like-for-like. I'll add that he's a rovers fan, so that adds something extra!! He will work harder!! Do you think Dunn tried as hard for Brum as he does for us? Or Derbs as hard for Olympiakos? Beattie will work harder simply because he is one of us. He feels the results of the club as much as we do. That can only be a good thing, surely? You may think it's balls, but if you were a player, would you try as hard for other clubs as you would Rovers. I'll answer for you: no.

He wasn't here that long as far as I can remember Rev, but he finished up getting the Jimmy Quinn treatment. Great player - too late.
