nobody is loyal in football these days, not a manager not a player, except for 1. the only people who are loyal, are the fans, Uncle Jack(R.I.P) and Tugay :brfcsmilie:

fergie & giggs/neville/scholes

carragher/gerrard

getting paid boatloads from the get go breeds loyalty i guess but its hard to argue that the 1 club lifers are'nt loyal.

as for beattie i'd rather pin my hopes on an unheard of prospect from abroard or 2 and get my hopes up that they might be belter's rather than pay my money for beattie and know exactly what to expect which does'nt remotely excite. This policy clearly backfired in the summer due to the obscene fee with kalinic but i'd sooner go that route again just without the clown we must have employed to negotiate the fee. I love the fact we buy cheap in recent years and get the max when selling, at the end of the day the player will leave but there is a lot of satisfaction when you get a good'un and equally as much satisfaction when they later crash and burn ala bentley/cruz.

Zero sell on fee with beattie added to the other useless leeches at the club means if the next window has a sell to buy policy again we are screwed, cheap prospects coming good is all we should be doing with the odd exception when required, which is'nt now.

i forgot about them, but still its hard to see any manager or player replicating what Fergie, Giggs, Scholes, Neville has achieved at United, and Gerrard and Carra at Liverpool. Although, Gerrard's head has been turned once or twice, and could easily have said feck this and left Liverpool.

It's why Matt Le Tissier features in my list of all-time greats. If he'd moved to a bigger club, he'd have been a world-great. Maybe we could bring him in for Pedersen? Slight improvement?

I'm reading his autobiography at the moment and he said that if he moved to a bigger club then he doubts he would have been the player he was because he wouldn't have been given the opportunity to play his own game and have a team built around him. It probably explains why he wasn't a success for England because he was given a set position and wasn't allowed to roam and do his own thing.

I also found this funny in his book and again it shows how loyal he was at Southampton for not making too much of a fuss. He mentioned that the highest wage he received for Southampton during his entire career was just £3,450 per week in 2001 despite rumours of him getting £25,000. He compared himself to Hassan Kachloul who rejected a new contract at Saints for £14,000 per week as he thought the club was being insulting to him because he was a first team player & a Moroccan International. If only we had more players like Le Tissier and less like Kachloul then football would be a much better sport.

Nicko, is the info i`ve heard true about beattie already having visited brockhall for pre-emptive talks with rovers about a move? is it a case of if benni or roberts gets sold beattie comes in?

also..

Do you know if coyle feels kevin davies is his type of player, and if not, could the idea of a move for him to rovers crop up again?

imo it`d be better for us to hold fire on the idea of signing beattie if there`s a chance that kevin davies would become available. sam knows for certain that davies can do the job he wants upfront.

He's upset the fans enough. He should go for Beattie over Davies ANY day!

i don`t see your logic there. sam knows for a FACT that davies can do precisiely the job he expects from a forward upfront, whereas he`s gambling on the hope that beattie can. imo beattie doesn`t work anything like as hard as davies does for the team and isn`t as clever a player, so if there`s a chance we could bring davies in, we should wait and see.

you cannot judge kevin davies as the player that left ewood all those years ago, sam moulded him into a totally differant type of forward after that, he almost relearned how to play the game.

He also did that with Diouf. I can't prove it with facts and figures, but I just feel Beattie would be a better signing. I'd be happier with Beattie than with Davies. We haven't chanted 'you fat @#/?' at Davies and gently applauded Beattie for the last decade for no reason.

I don't know what you mean by using Derbyshire as an example. The manager didn't think he was good enough. And I'm not a huge fan of Beattie. All I'm saying is it would mean more to play for the club you support. I know it would for me. That isn't to say I wouldn't try my best if I played somewhere else or anything like that.

For all Derbyshire's faults I reckon he'd have put away several of those sitters missed by our frauds masquerading as strikers and we would have had more points. But of course he wouldn't have been fit!

Thank you for making my arguement for me.

We`ve gently applauded beattie because, 1. he isn`t continually a thorn in our side as an opponant, and 2. he doesn`t play for disliked local rivals that we regulary competed with for league placing.

Davies has certainly always been an opponant i`ve not liked rovers facing, whereas with beattie more often than not he`s been anonymous inc his last 2 displays for stoke v rovers. yes, he`s netted a couple of penalties v rovers but i don`t want to sign a striker just because he takes a decent penalty!

Joe Ledley: Cardiff City ≥ Blackburn

Blackburn Rovers are the latest Premier League club to show an interest in Ledley. The Cardiff striker is out of contract in the summer but Rovers could make a bid for him during the current transfer window. Stoke City, who had a £6m offer for Ledley rejected in 2008, are also continuing to monitor the player's situation. Stuart James
