budha Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Where is that from? http://www.goal.com/en/news/9/england/2010/01/08/1733136/exclusive-blackburn-rovers-are-looking-for-two-new-players
Eddie Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Anyone else think that Eidur would be a bad move?
S15 Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 No. He's 31, fat, past it, and lost his ability to score by the sounds of things. Think of anyone better to replace McCarthy?
EwoodGlory Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Goal.com normally take stories from various sources, i'm not sure those comments will be true. Their exclusive comment yesterday was "I'm off to Newcastle". Jermaine Beckford.
JAL Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Anyone else think that Eidur would be a bad move? Past memories are all positive, but that was then, whats he like now eddie?
LeChuck Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 In his prime I think Gudjohnsen is up there with the best players this league has seen, I was a huge admirer of him at Chelsea. I must admit I haven't seen much of him since, but he didn't seem the sort of player who would suffer too much from losing a yard or two of pace as he grew older, his game didn't rely on that. Edit: I know Shilito's comparison to McCarthy was partly in jest...but one thing he does have over McCarthy is work rate, he'll look like Paul Dickov by comparison.
Hi Mack Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Shillitoe..............Have you seen Gudjohnson play recently? Your description is very inaccurate, Fat...NO Slow...has he ever been quick? Past It....31 past it? We are Blackburn Rovers signings like Gudjohnson are coups.
Steve Moss Posted January 8, 2010 Author Posted January 8, 2010 Shillitoe..............Have you seen Gudjohnson play recently? Your description is very inaccurate, Fat...NO Slow...has he ever been quick? Past It....31 past it? We are Blackburn Rovers signings like Gudjohnson are coups. I think Hi Mack has nailed it. Gudjohnsen may not be Chelsea starting material, but he could have a huge impact on the Rovers, in light of our squad which is becoming steadily younger (i.e. inexperienced). And I think is impact would be a positive one for the team, unlike disruptive influences like EHD. As an added bonus, and like many of Sam's signings, Gudjohnson would be able to play more than one position, both as a striker and as midfielder.
unluckymorton Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 No. He's 31, fat, past it, and lost his ability to score by the sounds of things. Think of anyone better to replace McCarthy? This one's for JAL... How's about Beattie to replace Benni? Sorry JAL. Surely Gudjohnson would be an improvement compared with Benni. For a start he'd come in and try to prove himself and win over the fans. Thats got to be worth it.
Mr. E Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 I was once a big admirer of Gudjohnsen, but can he still run? Seems like a fairly easy thing to test out - bring him for one training session and see how fast/how long he can go. Roberts/Diouf/Pedersen for Gudjohnsen would be a good move. But Benni has to stay. We would have the perfect balance then - two experienced strikers that can score and two young ones that need to learn how to do it.

RevidgeBlue Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Just seen that too. I dont believe him....I think we will sign 3. 1 being the algerian midfielder So Goal.com think we are signing Gudjohnsen on astronomical wages + one other and Hughesey thinks that's not enough - there will be more than that? That's it then - they're in the bag!

RibbleValleyRover Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Unless we sort out our lack of creativity it won't matter if its Roberts, Beattie, Gudjohnsen, Benni, Kalinic or Di Santo up front. The priority has to be a creative midfielder, AMC or even better a winger. Sort that out then you can look at our striking options and whether or not there needs to be changes/improvements. I would keep our striking options until the summer, even the donkey Roberts if it guarantees we bring in a decent creative player instead.
Hi Mack Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 For the second time today, WWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSHHHHH!!!!!!!! Dont get you, could you please explain?
LeChuck Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Unless we sort out our lack of creativity it won't matter if its Roberts, Beattie, Gudjohnsen, Benni, Kalinic or Di Santo up front. The priority has to be a creative midfielder, AMC Gudjohnsen IS a creative/attacking midfielder, he would be the solution to the creativity problem. He's not a goal scoring striker by any means, and hasn't been deployed as one since his Bolton days. He is primarily a creator, not a finisher.

I wonder what our manager, Allardyce, has in mind for him?

He's not a goal scoring striker by any means, and hasn't been deployed as one since his Bolton days. He is primarily a creator, not a finisher. He can finsh as well. Though could he play in the midfiled as well as Dunn. But you are right he would be the creative player also be handy for set pieces etc. Rovers need experience in the team - he also knows how Sam plays - but I would get rid of Diouf.
AJW Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 do you think it would be possible for dunn and gudjohnsen to play together? Bfs has found a role for dunny, in the "hole" just behind the striker, and he seems to be enjoying it
tcj_jones Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Dunn also finds it difficult to stay fit for prolonged periods. In the games Dunn isn't available, play Gudjohnson in the hole. For those he is, I'm sure he could fit somewhere else in the team.

For those he is, I'm sure he could fit somewhere else in the team. We could play a diamond with Gud at the top and Dunn in the middle with Nonzi. Were we gonna get the wages from tho doesnt seem like there are many buyers for Roberts ,Diouf..etc Are Fulham still interested in Andrews? Didnt they bid 3 Million for him?

I would be really tempted to drop GudJohnsen into central midfield and play him alongside NZonzi. Get him on the ball as much as humanly possible a la Tugay, although slightly more forward. Could be a very very clever swich in direction and improve our ball retention massively.
