cn174 Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Does Gudjohnsen count as a homegrown player? No. They have to be registered domestically for 3 seasons prior to thier 21st birthday. He only arrived to Bolton when he was 20.
LeChuck Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 He can finsh as well. Though could he play in the midfiled as well as Dunn. I think Dunn would have to play deeper, but he's had no qualms about playing Dunn deeper when McCarthy has played 'in the hole', so I guess just substitute McCarthy for Gudjohnsen. Getting some pace out wide is key if Eidur does come though, no point having these creative central players if we can't stretch defences. Slory is quick isn't he?
tcj_jones Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 That's not actually a bad idea, Joey. Although I think it's something that should only be considered in a few years time when his legs are nearly shot. Right now he's more valuable to us in an attacking capacity, but a move of this nature in the future would probably prolong his career. I'd rather drop Dunn back alongside N'Zonzi tbh.
alexanders Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Gudjohnsen at €3m euro as reported would be a class signing way ahead of James Beattie. You aren't a donkey if you play for Barcelona AND he isnt that old either. It is a big plus that he is versatile and creative and can be used both midfield and as a striker. FIngers crossed.
John Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Gudjohnsen would be a good signing - would be great if we could pull it off. Presume if Benni (or even Roberts) was to leave, someone who has experienced playing the Premier League would be brought in. Decent summary from Andy Gray here:Blackburn are not bad at back - they've got a decent goalkeeper and a couple of decent centre-backs. I think Sam would like a little more quality in the midfield area and David Dunn back fit.
Miker Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Gudjohnsen would be perfect for the 4-4-1-1 formation, if Sam continues to play it.
Backroom Tom Posted January 8, 2010 Backroom Posted January 8, 2010 Best of luck to Elrio, hope he makes the South Africa sqaud for the World Cup.
bluebruce Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Elrio has left Blackburn What language is that in? Turkish?
bluebruce Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Gudjohnsen would be perfect for the 4-4-1-1 formation, if Sam continues to play it. But if we sell Benni and refuse to play Kalinic regularly, I don't see any point in that kind of formation. As much as I like both players for their overall game, Gudjohnsen and Di Santo up front does not guarantee us many goals.
Fylde Coast Fan Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 If it's Eidur or Beattie - and there's no sign of any other striker targets on the horizon - then it's got to be Eidur every time.
bazza Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 The Mirror reports that West Ham and Spurs are also interested in Eidur. Isn't this Nicko's three clubs rule? Eidur's agent is offering him to various clubs; Rovers because of Sam's past involvement with the player. He's past it. Not a good move for Rovers. Let's move on.

A bit like Tugay was when we signed him? Realistically we're not going to do much better than a player of this pedigree.
Heinz Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Elrio has left Blackburn Somebody remind me why the hell we signed this guy. Is this bad luck or bad scouting?
Backroom Tom Posted January 8, 2010 Backroom Posted January 8, 2010 Sam is being blocked from signing Camel Meriem because he's not home grown. http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Allardyce-rows-with-Blackburn-over-free-agent-Meriem-article280787.html If there is any truth in this then its shocking by the club, why even get him in on trial or did they not think to ask his nationality first? Why is Linganzi taking so long, we had him over ages ago if we wanted him surely we should have sorted it at the start of the window?
John Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Why is Linganzi taking so long We are haggling over the £50k fee.
bubblerrovers Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 We are haggling over the £50k fee. I hope your joking We just spent £50k on Salt so the city game won't be called off for god sake
rovgers Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 I hope your joking We just spent £50k on Salt so the city game won't be called off for god sake Why would we pay salt to be used at middle eastlands, I take it you mean the Villa game!
Commondore Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Somebody remind me why the hell we signed this guy. Is this bad luck or bad scouting? Classic Sam Allardyce. Bring in random players for free, about one in four turns out to have something about them and the rest are flogged on into obscurity. There are tons of random ex Bolton players who know that by now...
S15 Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Bought for nowt, sold for money. Sam is the Messiah.
Roberto Policano Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Somebody remind me why the hell we signed this guy. Is this bad luck or bad scouting? Bad scouting and thats being kind. Off topic, Mathieu Valbuena is being offered about for £3.5 million.A possible signing for Rovers if they can off load more players?,even a loan deal maybe?. Allardyce likes his french lads!.
Gogger Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 No. They have to be registered domestically for 3 seasons prior to thier 21st birthday. He only arrived to Bolton when he was 20. Why no Meriem then? Is it just the gamble on him they wont accept or the fact that he isnt homegrown (if the story is correct)?
dingles staying down 4ever Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 The transfer Merry go Around isn't starting so Beattie not coming to Rovers just yet. http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Steve-Bruce-insists-striker-Kenwyne-Jones-will-NOT-be-leaving-Sunderland-article281953.html
