DannyKeg Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Rovers interest in Andwélé Slory from Feyenoord was in the Dutch papers again this morning. I was just talking to someone who follows the game over here and he doesn't rate him, says he is not good enough for the Premier League (mind you, that is from an Ajax fan).

Mr. E Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Am I the only one who kind of wishes the transfer window was no longer than 2 weeks, so that instead of only rumors we also see some decisive action?
Guest Wen Y Hu Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 I'm just about to update the Transfer Digest thread and I won't be including the link below, but I thought it was worth pointing out one or two matters concerning the Goal.com article that has been referred to during the course of discussion over the last 24 hours on this thread. EXCLUSIVE: Blackburn Rovers Are Looking For Two New Players - Sam Allardyce: Manager tells Goal.com UK that double swoop is on Under the above headline, Goal.com claims an exclusive interview with Big Sam and suggests that Rovers are about to sign two players, Eidur Gudjohnsen and Koo Ja-cheol. This is pure speculation, however, and is supported by a quote from Sam that looks rather familiar to me and I am sure that I have seen it previously published elsewhere. (Can anybody else place it?) Allegedly "Allardyce told Goal.com UK today" that "Money is available and ideally I would like to bring in two more players who are tactically and technically astute. [...] The chairman has been working extremely hard to find the additional funds for the players." Goal.com has merely added two names that have been linked elsewhere and dressed it up as a "swoop". Irrespective of whether this quote has been pulled from another published source or not, the Goal.com article is at best misleading. Possibly in response to such groundless nonsense, the Lancashire Telegraph today saw fit to make the following comment: "[Rovers] are unlikely to make an approach for Monaco striker Eidur Gudjohnsen, while there is no imminent move for South Koren midfielder Gu Ja-Cheol [aka Koo Ja-cheol], but Rovers could offer him a trial spell." (http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/blackburnrovers/news/4842557.Roque_knockout_hurt_us__says_Blackburn_Rovers_boss/) From the wording "unlikely to make an approach", it would seem the LT don't have definitive news on the matter and are erring on the side of caution in case there are indeed developments concerning Gudjohnsen. It would seem that Gudjohnsen is angling for a move back to the Premier League and it'll be interesting to see what happens, but I wouldn't be getting too hot under the collar on the basis of groundless speculation.
S15 Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 It's always the way. I seriously I doubt Sam did an exclusive with 'Goal.com'
Guest Wen Y Hu Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 It's always the way. I seriously I doubt Sam did an exclusive with 'Goal.com' Woooooooooshhh
sam_rovers Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 He talks too much.. has the need to share his opinion about everything from italian managers to what he had for lunch.. I wish he would shut up and focus on getting our strikers firing again
John Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 He talks too much.. has the need to share his opinion about everything from italian managers to what he had for lunch.. I wish he would shut up and focus on getting our strikers firing again He gets asked questions and gives his opinion, nothing wrong with that. Because he is experienced, journalists are interested to know what he thinks.
Fylde Coast Fan Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 If it's certain that Goal.com have been flat out making up interviews containing direct quotes, does that mean people can stop linking their stuff? It's nothing but lies and rehashes of tabloid stuff from the day before, and yet every time there's new posts in here someone has put a link to more of their nonsense. Rant over. We'd have to come into some serious money to sign Eidur, I think, and I'm not convinced he'd offer enough return for that kind of investment. Meriem and the Algerian kid sound more likely.

The Goal article does have quotes which have not been published before (as far as I can see). I would also say fairly significant quotes too Allardyce told Goal.com UK today: "Money is available and ideally I would like to bring in two more players who are tactically and technically astute." He added: "The chairman has been working extremely hard to find the additional funds for the players."
Hughesy Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Erkan Ari being tracked - ATTACKING MIDFIELDER Another young lad being linked - looks like Sams scouts have been VERY busy...
rovers1995 Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 I like this line in that article Hughesy, "It is not just any club but Blackburn Rovers," he admitted, when asked about which scouts have been tracking his progress. "I see this as recognition for my achievements." Sounds like the right type of lad.
philipl Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 The club briefed and sent its scouts out across the world in October. There has been a big concerted effort to find talent.
JAL Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 The club briefed and sent its scouts out across the world in October. There has been a big concerted effort to find talent. You make it sound like its a one off, when we'd hoped this was always the case. Dont know what to make of this philipl.

But 400 Euros? Not 400k Euros...?
Backroom Tom Posted January 9, 2010 Backroom Posted January 9, 2010 Is that first pic him or Nzonzi? Edit; ah just looked him up he's the white guy in the second pic We seem to take a lot on trial who supposedly impress but few of them sign. Hope this one has done enough.
RoyRover Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Here we go again Chelsea apparently are to bid £36 million for Dzeko at Wolfsburg, were we not after him for £10 million in the summer? Yeah we were, but then he went and scored 30+ goals for Wolfsburg as the won the league and a bucket load of goals for Bosnia in their World Cup qualifying campaign. His price has soared since then. I remember watching him a few years ago and the commentators were saying how this guy would be an absolute star. Elsewhere we are supposed to be interested in this guy. I've seen him play a couple of times in person and he's totally useless.Olivier Thomert.
47er Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Maybe it eould help to offload a few that are not home grown. Salgado being the first that springs to mind. SA has to work within the framework set down by the board and in the best interest of the club just as Owen Coyle had to do likewise at Burnley. ?...... Centre halves hardly being a priority at the moment..... unless we are thinking of selling one. Senderos has always stuck out like a sore thumb at Arsenal anyway. A very poor footballer in my view. I wouldn't swap him for Zurab.
bluebruce Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Senderos has always stuck out like a sore thumb at Arsenal anyway. A very poor footballer in my view. I wouldn't swap him for Zurab. Agreed, don't rate him and don't want him at the club. Maybe he will get better in the future though.
Darwen Rover Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 I think recruiting Fench under 21's is a good move for us. We simply do not have the budget to recruit established / semi established players therefore taking cheap risks on good prospects is the only way forward. However must say does seem quite depressing that the overall quality of the league seems to be improving year on year yet we struggle to recruit any stars... In fairness when you look at the investment of clubs just around us, it is a minor miracle we are where we are. By the way not heard from Nicko for a while, he's not in the process of moving house is he???
joey_big_nose Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Senderos has always stuck out like a sore thumb at Arsenal anyway. A very poor footballer in my view. I wouldn't swap him for Zurab. one of my favourite rovers moments was when Benni did Senderos like a kipper and slammed the ball into the top corner in the FA Cup. I will always love senderos for the look on his face
Hughesy Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Id rather we signed international standard youngsters for next to nothing than waste £2m+ on Gudjohsen......at least we may see a return some day for them!
joey_big_nose Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Id rather we signed international standard youngsters for next to nothing than waste £2m+ on Gudjohsen......at least we may see a return some day for them! I wouldn't mind Gudjohnsen provided we felt we could genuinely get three or four years out of him. Which for a player of his considerable talent, touch and inteligence is possible if he looks after himself and we find him the right role.
